They are growing at roughly the same rate, Mori slightly faster. This doesn't have anything to do with being the face though, since Gura is way ahead of everyone else but isn't the face of Hololive due to her lack of influence. With regards to producing real content, that doesn't matter either. Outside of vtubing (as well as within), the most successful streamers don't produce "real content." Within Hololive there are several members that produce their own music or art, yet are not as popular or influential as those who just play games or even just stream themselves pulling in some shitty gacha. Becoming the face requires something beyond just subs and original content.

mainly in regards of being a cross-section point between the eastern and western, indie and corporate vtubing/animetubing scenes
and unlike Gura/Peko who are more focused on doing things on their own, Mori has that FBK factor of being open to collaborating and organizing projects with nearly anyone that asks

Even if Mori somehow became the most popular liver, like how Pekora currently is, it wouldn't make her qualify to be the face of Hololive by the definition that MOST people understand it. Which isn't even true now, her talent which by her own self-admittance is mediocre and is 100% mostly the Hololive brand carrying her through.

Her song Next Color Planet charted in the top 20 for Japan singles, and it also won the Vtuber Music Awards last year (this is actually a big deal because she beat out a bunch of other strong entries including Calli's RIP). Furthermore, a bunch of her songs have made it into various prominent rhythm games, she's the host of two music-focused radio programs with good ratings (one just finished), and she's been invited to perform at numerous high profile concerts and venues, the most recent of which was V-Carnival. Most importantly, however, she made /a/ seethe incredibly hard. Her music got into Mogra so many times that /a/ complained bitterly about it in the Mogra threads last year.
While Calli is indeed a great talent by every measure, she's hardly the only person of that caliber in the vtuber world. If anything, the wild success of EN has all but guaranteed that more people of her level are going to appear going forward.

If you are looking at Japan then yeah certainly. Nijisanji's group album last year sold 32k copies and their group Raindrops sold I think 22k copies of their last EP. Himehina's last album sold 14k copies. Mori's sold 1.2k in the first week in Japan.

But this comment actually has some truth to it.

Mori gets her own shit done. She has since before HL, she has a catalog of dozens of original songs which are pretty legit IMO.

What most people here probably don't realize is that Idols are fundamentally NOT viewed as, or designed to be super talented musicians.

This is why they wait for someone to make an original song FOR them.

It's a different industry, mostly made to foster a para-social relationship to get those big bucks on merch.

Unfortunately this industry DOMINATES a large portion of the Japanese music industry (because they can profit more from it when the talents rely on them for everything)

Basically big corpos have made exploiting young wannabes SO prevalent that it's hard for anyone to even SEE that it's possible to do it any other way.

They make it seem impossible for someone to do it on their own and recruit the girls super young (a decent amount starting BELOW age 8).

Then have them focus on the superficial bullshit while actively deterring them from learning how to actually create music, promising training, promising "professionals will do it better dont even try", then exploiting the FUCK out of them.

Yall should look more into the idol industry and how it fucking sucks.
