As for indies, well, it's kinda subjective. You don't have to be blessed with a million talents to be entertaining for a hundred people, but you must have at least one thing that can catch their attention right away. Even something as simple as being energetic and optmistic might be enough if you know how to use it in your favour

When vtubers were new they were entertaining purely for the novelty of an anime girl playing games and talking to people live.
Now that it isn't that unique anymore they're being compared to other big streamers and they simply cannot compete most of the time, look at what jerma does on twitch (he was also the first vtuber actually) compared to Ame, who is heralded as the most creative EN, and she pales in comparison. Most of the other girls don't even attempt to do anything special though.
