Not Op, but same situation. I wouldn't say they directly saved me. It's not like Pekora burst in through my window and went Noooooo don't pull the trigger peko. But discovering them at a low point in my life gave me something to distract myself with. I'm sure that if there could have been some other hobby or series to completely throw myself into, to escape reality. Anything sufficiently distracting would have doen the trick. It's just that Vtubers happened to be it. Now that I'm better, I still feel a sense of gratitude for the fact that my Oshi 'accompanied' me when I was one bad night away from sticking a rifle in my mouth.

You solve one thing: the otherwise incessant misery you feel when you're on the verge of suicide. That easy and intense dopamine rush can be a real lifesaver so long as it's always there, and if you have financial capacity to send SCs and get memberships, that's one more aspect of self-worth and reliability keeping you going.
