I think it's very likely they're getting a lot of straight up garbage. You probably need to already have some experience as a streamer/youtuber and some real content they can evaluate in order to be seriously considered, but any streamer that already has some success probably won't bother applying, and people desperate enough to apply are probably not that good. And they must be going for really high standards if they seriously want to rival Luxiem.

Their standards are probably too high. Holostars is a bit of a failure and there is very little reason for people to want to apply beyond just hoping things work out differently for the EN branch. They probably got some decent entries but are probably just being picky and want people with a decent following as if that's going to mean anything. Just look at Council, they're carried entirely by the brand name. Popular PL doesn't mean you're going to make it big.

Obviously the candidates are male streamers who, while successful, aren't doing as well as they could in hololive. But the issue is that the low-mid numbers for holos are about the same as what the potential candidates get already.
So imagine the perfect candidate, a guy who gets ~500 consistent viewers and streams every day. The way streaming works, there's got to be some sort of reason he's stalled there, either lack of talent, personality, time, or ambition, all of which are also issues with signing with a corp. Or if he's NOT stalled as a 3-view, then he probably has high hopes for the future and wouldn't want to sign up when he still thinks he'd get successful on his own without corporate restrictions.
So you need either a talented newbie with a lot of potential but low self confidence, who nevertheless signs up for an interview, or a burnt out previously successful streamer looking for a way to get a second wind with a new audience.
And then you take whoever manages to make it all the way through that sieve and tack on being a PC non-psycho weeb.

You do miss one factor, and that's a talent that is hard to sell as an indie. Someone who likes idol culture, good at dancing, is good at organising, etc may not be great at getting views on themselves but would gain attraction with bigger exposure. For example speedrunning has some popularity now, but per stream often gets low views. However if you could find someone who competed in a range of games, who was also kinda funny and gave them exposure it might work. Same for say someone into fighting games, I watch a few who can break 300 but don't have much chance of further growth unless they turn variety streamer. But a holo who is kinda good at Strive? That might pull in the weebs right now.

That talent plus a good personality is very hard to find thouh.

It's really the last part that's an issue, they're eating their own lunch, no one qualified to pass the audition would expect to be better off afterwards than they already are.
For the girls, they have the promise of going from moderate to major success, for the boys it's moderate to moderate at best. Niji is kinda fucking them over too, since everyone now knows that it IS possible to succeed, but no one knows if there's a difference between companies. Afterall, jp males are more popular in nijisanji than holostars, who's to say it won't be the same in the west?

Doubtful. They likely received hundreds or even thousands of applications. It stands to reason that instead the issue is more like none (or not enough to fill a gen) of the application have met whatever their "standards" are.

Now, we can argue about whose fault that is, for example like it is often memed that Cover is getting lazy and requires you to have at a least a five figure subcount before they even consider looking at your application, in which case yeah that's on them to realize if no (or not enough) already successful men are applying, you may have to do the extra work and actually look at them individually instead of just filtering from highest subcount down and dismissing everyone below an artificial cutoff.

But more likely the issue is on the applicants side. We joke about how many of the men applying are just low quality trash with no track record who are basically just shooting for the chance to fuck their oshis, but I don't doubt that they make up a significant majority of the applications and the poor Cover scouts have to wade through deluges of absolute garbage.
Vtuber market / talent pool demographics are another factor. Male vtubers are already a minority (if you are an actually entertaining male, you can just regular face-stream as the usual reasons for vtubing for girls (hiding behind a cute anime avatar to entice simps) don't really apply to you, so the few males who actually do vtubing mostly end up being some kind of fucked in the head), and being an actual "good" male vtuber (either by general streaming/entertainment value, or having some other outstanding content creation talents) is even more a niche within a niche.

Put it another way, could this thread actually name five EN male vtubers who they'd like to see in StarsEN or who they recognize at least have the quality to make it in? Honestly, no, and not just because no one here actually watches enough male indie vtubers to even have a representative overview of the market, but also because yeah the market is actually that slim and dire. That's why you see anons mostly only come up with memey joke answers of popular non-vtuber male streamers to the question of who they'd like to see in StarsEN, because they know nothing else and are oblivious to the state of the actual male vtuber field (no problem tho, because again there's not much great stuff there)

As someone who has read application materials for a pretty selective process before (specifically written essays and past experience, not reviewing media/art), here's some advice that you should feel free to discard.
0. Can barely hear this thing.
1. Try to frontload more, having a more immediate and present hook. Remove filler and filler words, and sentences like admitting that you will now be a little less focused and fill up the time don't serve any specific purpose (and honestly you end up saying some relevant things afterward anyway).
2. Streamline a bit more to craft a narrative. It shouldn't be some cringey college application-style "everything in my life has been leading up to applying to Harvard" or whatever, but it's not a bad thing to combine your strong points and stories, and try to make them as tangible as possible. Oftentimes I would see an application where they say they did X, Y, and Z but there's no context for how meaningful this is, and what they weight more or less in terms of their strengths.
3. Related to the above two points, your speaking style at times is inflected in a way that kind of draws out the main idea of what you're saying or about to say, and sounds unplanned. That's not a bad quality when speaking normally as you might on a stream, but a reviewer might not find that ideal in application materials.
4. Minimize generic statements. Unfortunately, this is hard to do since specific statements can often filter you. However, generic statements _will_ filter you (unless you have 100k followers or some external indicator of predetermined success that you can work off of).

Rereading, this sounds kind of harsh, but I guess I like the music and think what you submitted has potential.
Unfortunately, the sad reality is that for selective application processes, external indicators or personal connections end up mattering a lot. However, I definitely took people to interview stages who had that "spark" and it worked out. But what I'm talking about is definitely less selective than corpo vtubing.

Not sure if it was posted here yet but the situation was explained in global. The Stars audition period isn't extended, it literally isn't the deadline yet. Their public job postings are for the set up of the branch, they haven't even started real preparations. They're going to have the first audition open for half a year minimum while they fish the talent pool. Proof is on Cover's hiding page

That is really the main issue here, a man like that would have made it on their own already if they wanted to. Holostars really cannot give much as a brand and every man smart/wise enough would see that they would be joining a bubble they won't be able to break out of. My guess is that if it does eventually launch we will see a couple of guys who have a surface level knowledge about the stars that they scrambled to get in their last few months before debut. I wouldn't blame them either to be honest, they represent a kind of streamer that has very little to no pull in the western scene. Hololive is successful because cute girls doing cute things in a controlled environment has tremendous appeal. The same is not true for a man.

When I was a kid I was in a poor situation growing up, so learned to talk from reading really really old books. These books were about Victorian/pre-WWI era, and I picked up numerous habits from doing so.
