What is /asp/?

A thread for aspiring vtubers! Whether your goal is to make the journey as an independent streamer or to gain experience and build a portfolio for agency auditions. Let's help each other grow and make it. Indies are welcome to selfpost, but shill responsibly. Share your knowledge, insights, feedback, discuss what has worked and what hasn't worked for you. And always remember to do your research before posting personally identifying information. That includes both in this thread and in your audition applications to agencies.

The general rule of thumb is Twitch if your content is primarily based on livestreaming and YouTube if your content is primarily pre-recorded and edited.

>Do you think there's an audience for X, Y, Z content?
First, ask yourself if you would watch a streamer of your skill and experience. Second, do a check on social media and look to see if other streamers are already creating similar content. Don't limit yourself to vtubers, include traditional real life streamers to scope out a potential audience.

The problem with moving the discussion away from 4ch, is, as always, that it makes the conversations here stutter.

I used to write on mlp. One of the writers there started a skype group, and a few writers migrated there.
They basically stopped posting entirely.
The writers were the ones providing nice anon feedback, so being in the skype group meant that they'd respond there too, so there was less benefit to posting in thread, you'd get less (you)s, and less attention, because it had already been said.

Of course, this then had the knock on effect - new writers would come to the thread, and see that it was four hours of >bump and nothing else.
So they'd leave for RGRE or something. Checking now, it's been going for 2 weeks, and has six stories written. It's circling the drain.

You also lose the anonymity.

People will couch their comments positively, or avoid providing negative feedback. Sure, you get some vitroil in the comments if you post here, but you'll also get some good (if caustic) feedback.

Look at twitter, and what a fucking hugbox that turns into.

That said, if you make one, I'd probably join anyway.

Can someone explain the whole scraping thing to me when it comes to these auditions? Because I’m pretty sure both Niji and Holo looked at their respective videos, but for like 3 seconds. I heard it has something to do with scraping, and I’m inclined to believe that’s what happened because I sincerely doubt there’s anything egregious enough within the first 3 seconds that could have filtered me out that hard

On the other hand, what're your numbers like? Are you an actual creator, or did you apply with 7 followers and zero streams under your belt? They absolutely will be filtering on numbers.

I do agree that /asp/ here will likely slow down and you'd get the effect of a bumping cycle for awhile but I figure with a hobby like this it will recover. At the same time you are correct also about feedback but the hope here is that a re-inspired attempt at /asp/ related servers would be more for collabing instead of asking for feedback. I'll consider it though in hosting /asp/ related stuff to allow those who want to join sign up.

Ok, so first of all, I don't generally care *much* about the model. A pretty model is nicer to have on screen than an ugly one, but I don't care if you're a doggirl, wolfgirl, foxgirl, corgigirl, or whatever
That said, If you're an artist, or willing to spend the money, I would LOVE to see a wolf-girl that gets more wolfy towards the full-moon, with a full-on animal model on streams on the actual full-moon, and only the ears on the new moon.

Anyone have any ideas on how to create off-stream content as a PNGTuber? I've got about 4 or 5 facial expressions but I'm unsure of how to shill myself when my model doesn't currently move. I'm waiting on my artist to finish up the model to have it rigged but I'd still like to put in some work and attempt to grow in the meantime.

That's a mindset you want to avoid. People talk about things like "generic thumbnails" or "png threads" or other basic things as if they're some great breach of their picture perfect morals. There's really nothing "new" to try, at least for the average joe that wants to become a content creator. The "new" stuff is coming from the people who already have experience in one field or another and applying that to streaming.

The current "meta" (if you can call it that) that's much more accessible to the average person is the yoink and twist. You still need to be mildly entertaining, but putting your own personal touch on to currently existing things is a pretty tried and true method.

I return from my sort of first "no game" stream, where i reviewed a bunch of games i played before. I think i did a pretty bad job, mostly because i didn't script it out and i chose to do 4 games at the same time, which really wears out the viewers attention (since a review needs full attention). I was reminded of hbomberguys Deus Ex video he released a while ago and which was also 3 hours long, but i really understand now how much power good editing and writing holds. His videos are amazing in both areas (at least i think that). Can't half-ass it, i learned that. But i had fun and i'll try to find stuff i can talk about in-depth without boring the viewers to death.

My new model is coming along finely, i'm slowly getting more confident in the design which i like. I knew this was gonna be hard for me, because this character has been an "OC" of mine for over 15 years, but now i'm leaving someone else to draw it for me which is very difficult, but the artist is amazing and i'll force myself to be more open with it. We are working now on the eye-catcher elements and the full sketch.

Go easy on the femboys fellow /asp/ies, i wished i could be one too, but my voice is way too deep, i'm 31 and my jawline is almost gigachad tier, i look like a tranny with venti's wig on.

For a stream it really needs that "discussion" aspect rather than a straight up review. And it never hurts to have some low-effort game for you to play while you chat even if the chatting is going to be the focus, at least in my opinion.

How do you guys usually set up vtube studio in OBS? Do you have your whole model fully visible at all times and just move it around in OBS or do you move the model around in vtube studio instead? I'm just a little anal about getting my model in the exact position every time I move to the game capture layout but I know having the whole thing visible will diminish some of the quality. Streaming is hard. Being entertaining, watching the game and chat, talking constantly for hours... It's a lot of effort.

I ask because the audience for LPs and streams are different, and the skillset is different as well.
Further, the YT algo will fuck you over. It's not the best place to get started for this kind of thing.

Having LPs and VODs are a way of getting people to find you, which is great! But if you're uploading them to a different platform, you'll lose some audience from that. And have a small audience anyway.

The best way to get started getting an audience is to stream. Make content as well, but you need to stream.

Tiktok and youtube will help get eyes on you. But you need to maximise those eyes on you - get online content.

Any past advice on choosing going full vtubing vs having it be a second job/hobby? cmiiw Gura, one of the most popular of holos are part timing it with animal shelter work for some reason.
bonus question, should I go finish my degree that I hate and have no friends in and had multiple burn outs in with no motivation at all to do while streaming on the side or should I just hail mary it and go full vtubing while scrounging for jobs from now on but with no job and organizational experience before?

Networking. Group up with other 2views and collab. Put "COLLAB" in your stream titles with them. As for passive ways to gain traction; Advertise somewhere other than /vt/ for starters. Personality and the ability to entertain would help. I remember two or three threads ago a guy used his autistic high energy clown voice to make it through the niji auditions with zero streaming credits.

I had some ideas for an April Fools stream, but i think i'll end up just resting because i'm still sort of sick. I had the idea of a gachi stream, or maybe a thighcam / pantyhose stream but the former isn't very clever and the latter might be a bit out of my comfort zone. (also not funny)

I'll leave it up to others to be funny for today...
