The general rule of thumb is Twitch if your content is primarily based on livestreaming and YouTube if your content is primarily pre-recorded and edited.

>Do you think there's an audience for X, Y, Z content?
First, ask yourself if you would watch a streamer of your skill and experience. Second, do a check on social media and look to see if other streamers are already creating similar content. Don't limit yourself to vtubers, include traditional real life streamers to scope out a potential audience.

I think I might keep him around actually, in the 99.9% I'm not accepted, I might look to post my own work under his persona. I think it's related to the fact I copypasted the eye, but I don't know how to fix it as it seems to work well in the program itself. Did you create the parameter from 0? VtubeStudio takes the ID of the parameters live2d creates by default so if you didn't use the same ID for it, it won't recognize it by default.
Just in case your parameter's ID fit.

Maybe I'm just dumb but I feel like only going to watch so little out of the audition is a waste. And honestly, kind of dumb. It's impossible to truly judge something at first glance just like that. It's not even a tenth of the whole thing. This time of assessment is very short-sighted. God knows so many people who have started as trainwrecks have ended up god-tier after a bit so who knows how many auditions that would have been perfect fits for what they want have been thrown into the trash for asinine reasons like "this video has one dead pixel and their voice went one decibel off during that sentence, into the trash it goes".

I get it tho, you have to INSTANTANEOUSLY captivate them, which it seems I failed to do! It's a bit of a bummer, my video was set up like a tv show with an intro song, and then myself as a host, and then a series of switching the channel through some of my favorite clips, then I crash through the tv and become 3d and plead with them to keep watching my show. I know its just how it goes, but I am bummed out they didn't get the full experience.

I think a defining factor of /asp/ies is, that they come and go pretty fast so a calendar might be tedious at best, thankless at worst. I'll gladly selfpost myself as long as people don't consider me too annoying, although i probably wont do it for every stream.

If you're still in school/uni there are mostly likely clubs you can join, but even if you're not there are almost definitely local groups you can search for. So, today's lesson is on Twitter and Discord etiquette for the socially retarded.
I wrote these because, looking through vtweeter accounts, and seeing the behaviour of some people in mine (and others') discords, they are inept.
This was prompted because I just finished a stream. I had been sitting at five viewers, and got a 30-viewer raid from a friend. I held onto 20 of them for 30 minutes, and held onto 10 of them for the next four hours. This is not great retention, but 33% isn't terrible, as far as it goes. Why would a 30+ streamer raid me, as a 5 viewer?
Because we're friends. Or, at the very least, friendly colleagues.

So, rules to avoid looking like a clout chasing dickhead.

First of all, check your twitter profile page. Or anyone else's.
In the upper right hand corner, you'll see the six most recent pictures (or GIFs, or direct videos) that they posted.

His second, third, and sixth image are his PNG without edits. This gives you a side-by-side for a +1, and a up-down for a +3.
Avoid this. Either post one image, or three images, between your PNG drops.

Does that change the fact that you're now aware of this, and how clout-chasing it looks?

Secondly, do the same with your posts.
Don't just fill your timeline with "going live, [link] #vtuber", and nothing else.
Don't post your meme, clip, or other socials, and then retweet it without anything else inbetween. It can be anything, but don't just post and repost the same stuff endlessly. Retweeting other people, or posting other stuff, works well to fill the middle.

Third point (and counterpoint to my previous posts)
Don't make everything about you. If you respond to someone else's tweet, don't say "As a small content creator..." and give your view. Just give your view. Don't present your credentials - would you trust a taxi driver who's first words had been "I am an excellent taxi driver"?

Discord
This is inspired because of a few dickheads in servers I've been in, and I've noticed the behaviour.

1 - Activity
Again, check your own activity between your shills in anyone's discord. If you've posted two 'going live' in a row, consider whether you should be in that discord. It's not your discord, it's someone elses, and you're just filling it up with yourself.
Sure, the majority of server owners don't care - I have muted my own self-promo channel - but if I check your activity, and you're only posting there, I'll assume you don't actually care about me/my discord. That's cool, but I'll definitely not check you out then.

2 - Timing
Is the server owner live?
Don't post in the self-promo.
Was the server owner live today, and you didn't go?
Don't post.
Does the server owner have a schedule, and is due to go live in the next 30 minutes?
Don't.
Again, this is reiterating point 1 - this is not YOUR server. It's fine if you don't manage to make every stream someone does, but shilling yourself when they're live is kind of rude.

A debut is kind of pointless in 2022 for indies. It's more like a meaningless "event" type stream. Here's a tip: those event/celebration streams always pull bigger numbers and more donos than an average stream. You want to do as many of them as possible as a vtuber without going overboard. I'd say minimum 2 a year up to 4, spaced out a bit.

The debut is a nice easy event stream, probably the first one you'll do. But in 2022, you CANNOT just make your first stream your debut. Unless you have a prior audience from something else you've been doing on the side, nobody will show up. Hence, the modern indie vtuber starts streaming and making content, building up an audience. Then once they feel comfortable with the amount of regulars they have, they "debut". It's a celebration stream. Next year on the same day it'll be your anniversary stream.

I'm doing schedules again and honestly, I'm pretty excited. I used to do them on debut but would often be a 0 view, I had a pretty crappy model, and my overlays and technology weren't all that great. My views still suck currently, but at least everything else has improved and changed and I'm hoping that by having a schedule and sticking to it I can create some sort of consistency and show commitment that in turn invokes more viewership.

I don't doubt it's luck, but there are next to no creators who weren't working hard prior to getting lucky. No one big now just went live whenever with no schedule, no videos on other sites, barely any streams, never clipping content, never networking, etc. "Success" is relative of course, but even if it just means getting to 30 viewers or getting partner, no one is doing it with zero effort and just getting lucky being lazy and uninteresting.

So let's talk about "switching it up"

It's pretty common advice - someone tells you that if you're seeing stagnation in your figures, whether that be CCV, follower count, or interaction %, you need to change things to keep people coming.

But what does this mean? Should you be looking to stop doing Elden Ring and maybe do a Dark Souls stream?

Whilst that's certainly one thing you CAN do, it's probably not actually that beneficial - it's still a game from the same publisher.

Likewise, moving into another similar game probably won't help, and moving into Stardew Valley would be a complete departure.

The problem is that these are all gaming streams. None of them do anything to set you apart from the 300,000 other game streamers online right now.

Instead, think on what you can bring to the table that isn't just gaming.
For instance, if you're a gardener, then go through the plants in Stardew Valley, and discuss which ones of them you avoid growing. Or just which ones you like eating.
Are you interested in blacksmithing? Go through the weaponry in Elden Ring, and make a tier-list of which ones would be easiest to make, and why.
Are you a witch? Do a stream where you annoint a candle with oils, and light it for blessings.

Think of something that isn't just playing a game. See if you can tie it to your normal games, and give it a spin.

Another option is to organize an event.

This doesn't have to be a mega collab, but again, make it something more than just "we play computer games together for two hours".

Do you have fighting games? Organize a tournament.
Do you play Flight Sims? Organize a Blue Arrows coordinated flight.
Do you sing? Organize a choir to do a christmas carol.

Use Audacity on your PC or a voice recorder (voice notes) app on your phone to record the audio.

Use the Photos app to make a basic video using said audio and either a picture or a pre-recorded video. You can't upload audio-only to YT, so the "bare minimum" is a audio playing underneath a stationary picture.

It takes less than 90 seconds to actually put the video together, not counting for render time.

I'm usually very mellow and insecure, which is terrible for an entertainer, but if I channel my inner hypeman I can actually get loud and be more extroverted but I need preparation.
