It’s an actual known fact that simpler designs do better, if you add too many things and over complicated details your mind just forgets it faster.

In gura and pekora’s case they have very iconic memorable designs similar to characters like Mario and sonic, it also works well with children’s brains and how they process information. In a child’s mind they will see the hoodie with teeth or carrots in hair and instantly think “oh that’s gura! Or oh that’s pekora!”

Adding shit in a concept just for the sake of making it look “cooler” just doesn’t do well in the long run.

Proto Sora was simple, but generic as fuck.
Previous AzKi models were also weird and gimicky, thankfulky this one is more appealing.
And from gens 1&2 aka the somehow least succesful ones, Akirose, Mel and Choco seem to be the ones tht struggle the most at getting big, yet their designs are unique yet easy to replicate.
In the vtubing biz you can't expect to be carried by the design.

simplicity is essential, and you should be able to instantly recognise the character if given a blacked out silhouette from any angle
