i don't know about niji, but hololive improves the quality of content that the same creator makes
the best 2 examples of this are (ironically) artia and coco
both of their indie variants are far, far less entertaining than their holo personas were

Company guidelines are a good thing because the vtubers avoid drama and dumb topics and avoid saying stupid shit. Corpos pick their favorites which you will probably enjoy at least a little bit, and company collabs bring together multiple favorites.
