Due to the additional landmass that was recently added that causes the northern coastlines of Hololive to become a landlocked sea, there is a suggestion that two straits be added to allow for the 12 affected countries affected to have freedom to travel by ocean again like they originally were.

There are two options, either add two straits, or a strait to the west, and the isthmus to the east could become a canal under Shishilamy's control.

It would be easier to create just two straits to the north in schizo territory because that is unclaimed terrain and would not affect anyone's current land.

I agree with this. just put the straits in unclaimed territory like pic related. The eastern strait should just be put north of shishilamy so any territorial claim or question about how they're construct a canal is null.

Gibraltar is actually a poor strait to make this comparison with, it's very large and deep which makes control of it difficult in this era, if I recall right. Danish straits are shallower and narrower, giving enough control for fort artillery to fire upon the arriving fleet in tandem with the defending navy. Something like the Bosphorus strait is also an amazing example, since it's one that can be efficiently locked down.

Basically, without naval supremacy, the Gibraltar strait is open and just force the attackers into a naval battle to pass, the Danish straits might need assistance from fleets but can provide fire support, and a very tight strait like the Bosphorus (and associated straits near Anatolia) can completely decimate fleets that'd want to pass through them.

>> No.20434764

>>20434591
Forgot to add: most straits in /vtwbg/ world are very wide, like Gibraltar. This means that it's not really about who controls the land at both sides of the strait, but rather who has the navy to defend/attack it as a chokepoint. This is also why things such as collecting tolls would be probably very ineffective, as you'd need a shitton of ships to collect them and pursue smugglers.

I'd say it's the latter due to the matter of "consent" here. If /uuu/ had a representative that was active in this thread and supported by the thread and they reached an agreement with /who/ to give over the land, I'd be less iffy about it.

The issue is that /uuu/ doesn't have a representative. They didn't have anyone interested, so they adopted "well if you really want it, annex us I guess" stance. I'd say allowing for land to be taken this way would set horrible precedent and is taking advantage of inactive generals.

The fatal flaw with that argument is the fact that until the last map update, the norther oceans were open so there was already a norther passage. Adding straits would be a return to the status quo since the true disrupter was the new land that created a land locked sea.

Again, that screws over every country on the western side since, say they want to be able to trade with /sora/
In the original map, they could just travel northwest past the schizo wastelands and then follow the western coast of hololive until they reached /sora/ (Blue)

The "New" map that landlocks them, would force them to go all the way east through shishilamy, the hug the eastern coast of hololive, pass through Niji and indie territory, and then go all the way past the southern part of the hololive coast to reach /sora/ (Red)

How is this fair given again, this was just newly added land?

Personally I don't really think whether the straits exist or not matter much. About vitubium/chuubanite. I should note that chuubanite can be found in space because the earth is made from the same stuff that's found in space. If we ever reach space exploration on other planets they could have chuubanite deposites like on earth. Chuubanite ia a thing for this solar system or even universe. Yeah, I made it that way in an attempt to compartmentalise the problems, so that even if one aspect doesn't get definitive solution, the others do, so there are less problems to deal with all at once. Proposal: The Retcon & Redistribution Of Polar Countries
Problem: There are 6 countries (KsonCoco, PPT, ZomG, Stars, Feet, ASP) whose land are within polar ice sheets and glaciers. Unsuitable for civilization.

Argument 1: Nuetralfag's Mistake
Neutralfag wae given permission to distribute land as a third party. However, by the end of the period it was clear he did not commit any form of quality assurance, handing out lands without second thought to 'get this over with'. As such, these 6 countries were given nigh unusable land to fill up space for the sake of completion.

Argument 2: Relative Size of The World
Since the world is Earth sized, the provided comparison map shows that some countrie received an extremely large area of land than they initially requested. A country that wanted a moderate sized land relative to Poland received one the size of the Indian subcontinent. As such some countries were given excess land than initially proposed for the sake of filling the map as fast as possible. Excess land that when partitioned correctly would have enough room to fit the 6 Polar Countries.

Inference: It is clear this mistake happened because the original partitioning of VT world was made without a proper size comparison relative to the 1:1 Earth sized planet. Due to the map's simplistic design, we assumed countries like ggg were as big as France when it turns out it's as large the entire MENA.

Proposed Solution: Countries who find themselves creatively unable to manage a country the size of Europe could donate a small partition of their land collectively to provide enough room to move the 6 Polar Countries to proper habitable zones.

Thank you for your consideration.

Your last recommendation, in my opinion, in the most sound one, but it would mean sending this project back almost to day one.
Now, in theory, this isn't a bad thing, because as you said, some countries could be shrunk in order to relocate any problematic country and, also, free some land. Hell, this is possibly the best solution for the map, as that way it also opens up some much needed space for other future generals like say an /ID3/ or /JP7/ member that gets a general, or /israel/. But then the problem becomes that some countries already have lore written about them that depend on their location and current borders, and this solution becomes the most appropriate but the most difficult.

There are several small islands on the fetish coast that can house /feet/ and while they are admittedly lack luster it matches with how jannies were particularily prudish when it came to them compared to the pruning of other fetish generals.
I also suggest that /vsj+/ offer them aid, I frequent the general often and watch streams but I don't know if they have an official rep here or not so take this as you will. /vsj+/ has a large amount of territory but relatively little lore or substantial aid in terms of worlbuilding, I don't even think they have a post in the archives. My suggestion is that /vsj+/ enters into a trading pact with /feet/ to supply them with supplies and equipment that will allow them to survive in cold polar climate, along with this I'd add my own piece of lore to justify why /vsj+/ would do something which seems to just be charity work.
You only need to skim /x/ to get a glance of conspiracy theory posts about secret ancient antarctic pyramids or ancient technology that the government is keeping from everyone for whatever reason.
For us, this could mean that large amounts of chuubanite have been found in desolate polar wastelands and big nations are desperate to keep this a secret and begin operations to extract the chuubanite before any other powers can interfere. Here is why I think /vsj+/ should be the ones to do this aside from them having a culture that celebrates sex and degeneracy.
Pink Cat is perhaps the biggest chuuba that we know for certain browses /vt/ and her history with the boards in general implies certain interesting ideas, pair that with her actual character lore of being a horrible eldritch monstrosity that forgot her past and now we have something to actually add.
>>20433234
The Nyacolytes have found evidence that suggest that more than chuubanite lies dormant in those icebergs, they believe that the goddess herself is embedded in ice and is awaiting the time when she will be unthawed and released onto the world, becoming the strongest /here/ chuuba that ever was. Scraps of her divine fur and frozen droplets of her precious healing milk have been taken back to the motherland where dark rituals are concoted in order to create clones of the goddess in hopes that her divine essence may transfer from the Broodmother to her bastard daughters. These clones are often malformed and afflicted with mental ailments which render there jibberings meaningless to the untrained ear however many are still kept hidden for purposes of propogation and the occasional trade with /meat/. Of course, given that /ouh/ is /feet/'s nearest neighbor, I'd imagine a large amount of friction given Pink Cat's history and if they were to ever find out that she resided south I don't doubt a war would be waged in order to slay her in vengance for her grand betrayal of their culture. I have to go wage soon so I might not get the chance to elaborate further on how the other nations might deal with their polar problem but I hope the idea sparks enough interest to get some lore going.

Right, so I'm considering a major reshuffle of how our country is gonna work in the near future once Lumi and Yuri leave Cyberlive. As the thread's only actual fucking rep in here, I've spoken to some people I trust implicity with this, and, well, we're pressing the "Revolt" button instead of aging to Imperial. Once 4/1/22 on the thread rolls around, the Basilea ton Ayakkayoli will no longer exist. I.E., you can replace /clg/ with /lyg/, or whatever the ACTUAL good thread is gonna be.

What does this mean? I will have to redraw a bunch of the internal boundaries, reorganize the military, and, well, add a bunch of nasty internal politics in terms of how certain minority groups are being treated within the newly-christened Basilea Ton Lampardáleos.
Think of us as becoming, effectively, a bicultural ethno-state:
--Canichoriotes and Amarikiyans at the top, bolstered by /ñ/ and /lig/ immigrants from the Momosfikon theme (think Balkan Greeks, Kappadokian+Pontic Greeks, and Karamanlides+Urums+Sarakatsani, respectively). These groups, closely tied by genetics, apparently, will speak the Lampardic languages.
--Touavgonians (think Vasmouloi) and Exegentics (think Armenians) somewhere under them.
--Thema Alchemilon was primarily settled by Canichoriotes and thus do not host a major ethnic group--though rowdier than most of their ethnic cohorts, of course. Thema Oumiyas, likewise, was primarily settled by the descendants of immigrants who'd "gone native", a la Magyars in the Vardar or whatever the hell happened to the Varangians and Ghassanids.
--Satonikites (think of all the dunking on French Canadians that other Canadians and Americans do) and Ayanians (literal fire-eating niggers who perpetually look like they have GRRM-style "greyscale" ) little better than slave labor.
--Mavrikoukleiotes, an offshoot of Ayanians, are are basically a bunch of biracial basketball Americans who speak bastardized Lampardic that's the equivalent of ebonics.
The majority of the country has been effectively colonized internally by our dominant ethnic groups, who provide most of the tagmatic soldiers; the ranks are generally closed to lower-class peoples to keep them from effectively pursuing separatism later on. No segregation within units, however, they just won't get promoted. Unless some serious battlefield valor is observed.

Why did this happen? The young Emperor Phylakas IV, upon taking the throne after the untimely demise of his uncle, (provably from liver cancer), saw some out-of-pocket shit in the lands he rules today. Local Dynatoi from subject peoples dodging taxes and meddling with Canichoriote settlers. Army still using and distributing outdated and archaic equipment. Note that this equipment was being used and distributed efficiently and in a standardized fashion, but why would a modern line soldier need a longsword? Or longbow? Far fewer troops are now expected to fight in melee, and primarily marines.

The Sfyriotai and Chavliodontai have been merged into the Skoutatoi--infantry in brigandine, zischägge, splint greaves, Karuta-tatami faulds; wielding backswords and rattan-backed bisonhide shields, it is their task to outpace and cut down enemy firearms and pikemen in close quarters. 1500 Skoutatoi per tagma, balanced by an additional 500 Kleisouraphylakes. They are deployed in blocks of 50-100 in order to pressure VERY specific portions of the enemy lines. The Rectrikioi are no longer a unit type beyond martial arts practitioners.

The Curseares have been merged with the Youriphoroi--Both are now the Arpaktiká, wielding primarily a repeating carbine and 180-cm koncerz, along with a cavalry saber. Completely unarmored horses. Riders wear 35-ply silk coats, similar tatami faulds to what Skoutatoi wear, plate greaves, and a visored, cheek-flapped precursor to the M1934 combat helmet.

It ultimately boils down to the amount and direction a thread's autism has. Mine is mostly focused on the biosphere, so I like to read and write about what kind of plants a place might have (which necessitates some degree of knowledge on climate and geography, although I'm nowhere as knowledgeable as climatebro on that front). Working out metallic ores is also relatively simple once we get the tectonic analysis, although gemstones are much more complicated and not really what I'm into.
I also did a relatively basic overview for /inf/ (>>20394672) and /rose/ (>>20415094), although they're admittedly more preliminary, especially in things that I'm not as autistic about. If your thread has a need for something like that, I might be able to help somewhat, at least when it comes to things like plants and (non-gemstone) minerals. Be noted that the climate analysis is likely somewhat outdated, which affects the flora and fauna a place would likely have. I'll try to take into account that, but things like climate analysis are often not very consistent between individuals (see RL Iceland climate zone maps for an extreme example)), so you might want to take mine with a grain of salt. This is ultimately just a work of fiction, after all, so what the thread wants is more important than what my input is (to a certain degree - you probably can't grow rice in tundra no matter how hard you try).

I've looked over it, I think the result might fit /nasfaqg/'s trade-centric nature well. Minerally, the land is somewhat poor due to lack of subduction, although its proximity with orogens means it's not completely barren at least. The weather is calm and warm but dry, although its position makes it easy to exploit both trade winds and westerlies. The biosphere is mostly mixed woodland, which produces a decent amount of hardwood for shipbuilding. It might have extensive wetland which could serve as the base for canal-filled cities similar to Venice and the Netherlands.
>climate
- no major ocean currents in the inland sea
- should be almost right below the subtropical high pressure belt
- the weather is generally sunny, dry (although somewhat mitigated by the seas north and south of it), and usually calm
- should be in a good position to make use of both tropical trade winds and temperate westerlies for sailing
- the prevailing climate will likely be Cfa, known as either humid subtropical or warm temperate climate (think a more wooded Sydney-Brisbane coast for a close RL example)
- the northern islands will be tropical

>geology
- the central island is listed as basin, likely foreland basin due to orogeny in /ahoy/
- little to no subduction beneath /nasfaqg/
- many parts of the lowland might be waterlogged and can form wetlands

>plants
- likely mixed woodland dominated by broadleaf forest due to lack of significant dry season, although deforestation and other processes might result in grassland
- usually with multiple species of wood without a dominant one, although for Australia it is dominated by Eucalyptus trees
- examples of common trees include southern beeches, Eucalyptus trees, oak, sal, bodhi, and boxwood
- rice is likely the most useful food crop
- for fruit, orange, banana, pineapple is likely common
- probably no native spice in homeland except cassia, although the tropical islands up north might be more promising
- low-lying area further from the sea might become peatland

>minerals
- petroleum might be present in foreland basin, although the amount might not be of economic scale
- possible IOCG deposits (iron, copper) near /ahoy/ border, although it might not be very abundant due to lack of subduction beneath Nasfaqg plate
- bauxite might be present, but the practical use of aluminium is beyond current technology

It's really really clear and has been pointed out before, but infinity, like nasfaqg, has had a sort of meta worldbuilding identity long before /vtwbg/ was a thing, and they cling unto that a lot. They use any reason to justify sticking to their desired tech level - the inverse of this is when /meat/ initially wanted to have really jacked up magic so as to stay competitive while clinging to THEIR meta identity as tribals.

And honestly if any thread starts lorefagging scientific breakthroughs, I think that's an entire can of worms - no one wants to be left behind on the world stage, so everyone will want to do the same, and it gets harder and harder to justify not starting wars with more and more people making new tech that can be weaponized.

So infinity threatening to do the same in response to others wanting to do it should be just one more reason not to allow it, and keep the world in a stasis.

Yes which was some sort of steampunk isolationist world. Well they've dropped the isolationist aspect and it sounds like they'd drop the steampunk aspect in order to maintain their tech advantage so this doesn't really carry much weight anymore. The first response to another nation wanting to change the status quo everyone else has agreed on and is working with, should be to explain why that wouldn't work and it would upset the balance too much. For some reason /infinity/'s response from their rep is to go "well we'll just advance as well" because thats clearly more important to them than the consistency of the world. Kronies villainize themselves in these discussions
>And honestly if any thread starts lorefagging scientific breakthroughs, I think that's an entire can of worms - no one wants to be left behind on the world stage, so everyone will want to do the same, and it gets harder and harder to justify not starting wars with more and more people making new tech that can be weaponized.

But /infinity/'s met-identity is apparently steampunk, not "we have technological advantage over everyone else". Especially since /infinity/ flaunts that completely unjustified technological advantage offering to share it with other nations.

As I said, the non-drawback "drawback" of isolationism was voided, which was the main balancing factor, and they are employing tech en masse and exporting it.

Widely-employed steam engine is completely transformative for the entire society, economy, and warfare. It's not "just" a steam engine, it's The Fucking Industrial Revolution, meaning a bump in the average era to 1850's for EVERYONE to stay competitive on the global stage, and this leaves the lore of some nations like /meat/ in the dust.

If some nation wishes to have a tech advantage, like /nasa/ or /nasfaqg/, they did so in a way that ensures that the tech won't proliferate or will be otherwise contained. /who/ or /infinity/ here argue for extremely broad usage of advanced technology which would put them at insurmountable tech advantage.

I'm not completely sure, but I guess it's probably better to wait for an actual climate analysis anyway. Still, /nasfaqg/ being Csa instead of Cfa shouldn't change too much, maybe with wheat replacing rice as the most suitable food crop, and having more coniferous trees instead of broadleaf in the mixed woodland should be enough. I think /nasfaqg/ is a tossup between cfa (e.g., Sydney, Australia) and cs[a,b] (Adelaide,Australia or Albany, Australia respectively) the latter I feel would be more unlikely All of these could be plausible climates for nasfaqg, it largely depends on the amount of rainfall the area gets; csa if the area is dry, cfa if its more humid. Most likely nasfaqg is a patchwork of mainly these three zones, minus the islands closer to the equator and the tip of the /#/ peninsula.

The climate map that has been in use the past month or so is an extreme oversimplification because 1. I dont trust my skills well enough to do one with actually accurate köppen zones, and 2. doing one would have taken days and at the moment outdated but not completely useless.

/infinity/ is already pre-revolution. They agreed not to have the steam engines if I recall right, with the exception of early steam boats which are slower/less viable than sailing ships but can swim regardless of winds. I'm against advancing either /who/ or /infinity/ further.

I think part of it is because its position and the small bodies of water around them means their climate won't be significantly influenced by ocean currents. While their position right beneath the STHP means their land would be dry, the water around it might give enough moderating effect and moisture to keep it from getting s instead of f. The closest RL equivalent, namely the eponymous Mediterranean, also has both Cf and Cs climate zones, so I guess it ultimately depends on which one /nasfaqg/ prefers. They should get what they want either way, with the main influence being what they eat.
