To grow on Twitch all you have to do is stream a lot, maybe advertise your streams elsewhere once in a while, and hope you get raided. Helps if you have a network of friends to share viewers with too.

On YouTube, grow is entirely dependant on The Almighty Algorithm blessing you and recommending one of your videos. And the algo only likes shorts right now, and only if you upload them consistently and often.

So Twitch is a lot easier on growth if you just want to play video games with your friends. YT is for GFE baiting and actually edited videos.

One of my friends was watching an osrs streamer he likes. This osrs streamer was some hundred hours into a hardcore when he looked away from his monitor and got killed. My friend then proceeded to use his channel points to purchase nine "MMM Homie"s. When someone purchases an "MMM Homie" the streamer is supposed to do a bad impression of hit animated television character, Marge Simpson, saying "mmm, homie".
These "MMM Homies" were sent with the following message
>Why did you kill your HC is it a strat?

The streamer however, did not take kindly to this and banned him for a week. My friend then donated £5 to this streamer saying "please daddy i am sorry" and was informed he is still banned. After one week he returned, and donated £5, with the message
>I'm back daddy, can I please get my MMM Homies now?
And was banned for another day.

I tell you this, because this was a story told to me as an argument *FOR* Youtube adopting twitch's monetization schemes. Which if this does not properly explain the culture gap between Youtube streams and twitch streams, and why that culture gap should remain, I believe you need to get your head checked.

Youtube live streaming is kinda "old" news and is only forced by Japanese streamers.
To be fair, it's working for them well since holofans usually ONLY watch hololive members and thus they are all in one place.

For westerners, twitch is the place where it's easiest to grow, is way more user friendly and whether people like it or not, has much more chat interaction with the streamer rather than being a face in the crowd.

I agree on most fronts, but realize we're the minority. The majority will always be people that do not care about most things that the few find infuriating. Most will use whichever platform the streamer they want to watch is on. Streamers themselves have every reason to prefer Twitch if they want a viewership and aren't doing it purely for themselves or their friends.
Youtube won't be competitive for streamers until they implement a half decent way to browser for livestreams. They already have a fucking category system, so it's just a matter of a better interface that allows you to filter on that category specifically. I don't expect them to do this though, and instead they'll continue adding all the viewer interaction features that won't help without this crucial piece for any small streamers.
I've done some streaming on and off since 2011 across Ngame (died in 2011 or early 2012), Twitch, Mixxer, and Youtube. Youtube doesn't come close to being good for the streamer, but feels best as a viewer.

Everything except this is correct. Especially if you have to bring up alternative viewers, which I am sure Youtube has as well but you don't hear about as much because you don't need them. Don't let your salt cloud that part at the very least. I won't call it better enough to warrant the downsides, but Youtube is still better as a viewer. The downsides as a streamer are exceptionally awful though, especially if you don't care about preserving VODs or their view count from the stream itself.
On the viewer side, chat is the main thing Youtube fucks up massively. It's amazing how over engineered it is and how poorly it runs as a result. Twitch had the right idea with using IRC as a base and just extending it to their needs.

It's the little things, honestly mostly stuff you only notice if you have particular setups.
For instance, Twitch forces a pre-roll ad most of the time by splicing it directly into the stream HLS playlist. If you don't have adblock, you probably wouldn't know or care, since you are used to ads anyway. There is no such issue on Youtube.
Youtube also transcodes all streams instead of just ones for partners or with enough viewers. Youtube also has a much, much higher bitrate cap allowing for much higher video quality if taken advantage of. Things that the streamer has little reason to care about, but are very nice for the viewer.
Likewise though if you are a viewer that likes to actually use chat, Twitch would probably feel nicer, more responsive, and has some extra features to get that bit of a rush when using it. I am sure there are other things for Twitch as a viewer, but it's been a diceroll for me on whether the site loads pages properly or not for years now, even with umatrix and ublock completely disabled. I'll chalk that up to my own setup regardless though, as I can't imagine something like that would go without major complaints if it were common.
That, combined with the pre-roll ad that even streamlink can't fully get away from (it just doesn't show it but still requires you wait it out), makes me just not bother watching Twitch streams.
