do you guys think it might just be a translation error, and she's only going to "retire" for a couple weeks or so before she comes back? don't mean to huff the copium too much, but there are a few discrepancies that don't make sense to me. >>19705270 and >>19727444 indicate that it might just be a sudden issue that came up for her, and that she'll be back when it's not as much of a problem.

>> No.19729051 [DELETED]

>>19728592
The 4th anniversary is cancelled as per https://twitter.com/ryonaxlove/status/1500515716566773769, although the other account states that the goods will still be delivered (then again, she is part of a doujin group who was just looking for another talent behind one of the old avatars).
As for >>19705270, what is a bit alarming for me is that the retire post actually TL as
>It's the day I want to retire from life.
Then again, her lore says she can regenerate indefinitely, so I don't think it's a clear indication of anything.
I hope...

>> No.19729807

>>19728592
Doesn't seem to be a TL error at least in the parts that matter. There're some missing nuances in some, including in >>19705270 where the MTL missed the retiring from life part (although given Akira's lore, it's probably not enough an indication for anything drastic... I hope). The info account does say she's ceasing activity, although promised goods will still be shipped (likely because she's part of a doujin circle). I guess only time will tell what happens and if we can see Akira again, but with luck, at least the circle might be getting a new chuuba soon.

>> No.19730133

the sudden canceling of the anniversary is the discrepancy that indicates a sudden issue that she'll try to deal with for now. it's not common to make such important decisions so suddenly. worst case scenario, she damaged herself and is no longer capable of doing her streams.

So that whole Gura thing had me thinking about our /vtwbg/ island near the /ggg/ country. Most of our loreposts only describe what happens in mainland /meat/ but what about our little island up north?

What I'm thinking is that there's a reason it's been untouched by the other nearby countries is because it's sort of like a resort island that doesn't really follow normal /meat/ culture.
Since we seem to have strong Mesoamerican influence and I want to incorporate Gura for her /meat/ stream, it could be like an El Dorado/Ancient Greek themed Vegas/Macau where tourism is the money maker.

Our brothels there could be for the kinky tourists looking to dip their toes into BDSM. The feasts will be an extravagant mimicry of the rituals back home, but instead of human it'll be roast pig. I'm picturing one of those over-the-top Hawaiian luaus they throw for visitors.
There's many types of gambling here, too. The /nasfaqg/ islands most likely are a place to bet and gamble as well, but people might come to us for more loose regulations.
Even though we might be more lax and get pretty degenerate, some of the rambunctious troublemakers might get quietly taken by island security and sent to the hidden shrines where devout cultists still practice our religion.

Thoughts?

>> No.19826509

>>19825654
desu, even if gura posts a /meat/-adjacent video, that seems like a loose connection, and dumbing down your content to fit the preferences of normalfags is a bit disgusting. they can "dip their toes into BDSM" literally anywhere else, probably without any backlash since even moderate to extreme bdsm is practically normalfag over here, /meat/ is the stuff beyond that. furthermore, /meat/ as an entity isn't purely fetishistic. how does this serve /meat/'s goals? now, with that being said, having a forward base right next to the hololive empire might make more sense if there was some kind of alternate use that would ease tensions a bit. still, it wouldn't be to "dip their toes" into anything but a pool of their own blood. that's just my opinion, though. i don't mean to make this sound too harsh, in case that's how it comes across, so sorry if that's what it ends up looking like.

>> No.19826870

>>19825654
Given that Gura's /meat/ stream is members-only, I don't think it's big enough to signify a major shift for the lore of either thread. (unless...)
If anything, I would say it would be better reflected by /meat/ cult gaining some followings in the inner circles of /ggg/, although even that depends on how /ggg/ sees the stream, since /vtwbg/ is based on /vt/ and not the vtubers themselves. Maybe we can ask /ggg/ regulars the next time they post in /vtwbg/ about that.
As for tourism, barring the question of how common tourism is in the setting, I feel they can probably just travel to the rest of /meat/ to do about the same thing. That said, some reasons why the holo countries don't just block the island off is a good question.

>> No.19827119

>>19826509
I get it, but not everyone is a Comma Dentata. You're probably the anon in the drama thread that equates anything but extreme guro as 'normalfaggotry' when R18G encompasses ryona, guro, and /ringo/ play. That said, I'm saying there could be brothels that could fulfill some extreme kinks and places for a noobs first dive into the kink.

I did mention this particular island doesn't follow what you think is /meat/ culture since it's so far disconnected. Like how Panda Express is "Chinese" food. It still would have the more devout cultists punishing and maybe even enslaving and shipping bad tourists back home.

>>19826870
True, tourists could go to the mainland. Which is why I'm thinking it would be a watered down version of it for babby's first harapan experience.

>> No.19827585

>>19827119
That would imply that every ritual done in the mainland is with only the hard stuff, though, which I'm not sure is the case. Even Comma streams lighter stuff at times, and many of our chuubas are fairly mild as well.
Personally, I imagine that /meat/ rituals, even in the mainland, contains about the whole spectrum when it comes to intensity. The BDSM stuff mentioned in >>19825654 is probably /meat/'s equivalent of going to church on Sunday, which can be done regularly and can be experienced personally by laypeople. Comma-tier stuff and human sacrifice would be like full-on mass and feast day. You can see >>19760045 for what I have in mind.

>> No.19827797

>>19827119
>You're probably the anon in the drama thread that equates anything but extreme guro as 'normalfaggotry'
what part about my writing style suggests that, besides the fact that i raised concerns over normalfaggotry? when you say someone who isn't interested in your specific type of non-normalfag entertainment is a normalfag, that's retarded. when you say you are literally going to water down your content to fir the preferences of a larger, less experienced, more normal audience, then you are literally dumbing down your content for normalfags. it's not that they wouldn't "follow what i think /meat/ culture is" they wouldn't be following /meat/ culture at all. even soft royna is usually just a step past what most would see as extreme BDSM. i would sooner give the island to /ggg/ than let it be another tourist location for people who aren't even interested in /meat/.

>> No.19828972

>>19827585
True, I'm just thinking it's a perversion of the usual ritual suited for tourism. I mean, that Akira drama thread has 100+ IPs. We could spin that as like a performance of sacrificing Akira to the tourists. Indigineous /meat/heads that aren't corrupted with greed could still be practicing normal worship away from the big casinos and resorts.

>>19827797
Look I'm not interested in your cannibalism kink or the other kinks here like shit chocolate and puking out cough medicine, but I still enjoy eroguro and ryona, am I not "/meat/ culture"? We need to explain why we have an island that's so far from the mainland and much more closer to the Holo countries without being overtaken or nuked to smithereens by the others. You have this idea of a forward raiding base, but the moment that island would show any aggression I don't see why the whole Holo continent would just go for a mutual defense pact and nuke the island off the map.

So for what I'm thinking right now on origins of the island, maybe a group of raiders stumbled across it, conquered it, found vast deposits of gold and got corrupted by greed. Some lorefag could fill in the gaps but eventually we get some Las Vegas situation going on there. Picture Native Americans and them building casinos on their reservations.

But yeah we don't need to do this idea, we just need to explain it's continued existence and these are my 2 cents.

>> No.19829517

>>19828972
I mean, /meat/ is supposed to be a theocracy after all, so it might not take perversion of their rituals kindly, and the island's position is not in a place where they can isolate themselves from /meat/ raiders.
If said perversion is deemed permissible (the tenets do say suffering from non-humans being valid as well, even if not as valuable), then it'll also occur in the mainland as "lesser" sacrifices that tourists can participate and bail out before the main event occurs.
I guess for me personally, from a purely secular standpoint, the atmosphere of the ritual is at least as important as the ritual itself, especially in a pre-industrial society like /meat/ (or most of /vtwbg/ for that matter), so it would be more effective having the tourists be in mainland's lesser sacrifices (where they can feel the festive atmosphere and not one mimicked by paid actors) than having them sit through the theme park version offered in the island.
While the continued existence of the island is indeed a question worth answering, I feel the biggest threat to it would not be what is done there, but rather its association with /meat/, which is still conducting raiding and human sacrifice on a regular basis. Having the island be a /meat/ theme park probably won't solve that issue.
(Currently, the closest there is to an explanation would be /meat/ having hidden cultists pulling the strings to keep the heat off. That, or the world being in pre-industrial time also translates to the average value of a commoner life is not deemed important enough to wage a war against us over them.)

all i was saying was that the idea of dumbing it down disgusted me, i outright agreed with you that we should have a way to make it less obviously hostile. /meat/ is supposed to be operated by their cultists. i could see a reason for having a casino/Epstein's island kind of thing going on. finding vast deposits of gold immediately kills your idea, there's no reason to have a casino over a gold mine. slave labor is the inevitable result given how we seem to work, yet we still need a reason to keep the island. best one is obviously the forward base, but if we are being discrete we need a fallback excuse. >>19829713 gives a fine one. this is good for your casino idea, but opens up far more opportunities than normalfag catering and /meat/ culture desecrating retards larping as something they are unwilling to actually become. at the very least, have actual /meat/ somewhere behind the scenes, treating the island as an actual gateway into /meat/ culture, like a cultist trying to manipulate people into joining their cult, not to mention the previous intentions of holding spoils and conducting raiding operations. tourists should reliably come in for a few weeks or months and then return to their hometown with an enlightened perspective, at the very least.

I'm pretty sure they still trade with each other directly during the Crusades (about as close as one can make a statement like "christian world and muslim world hated each other", but even then the conflicts were never divided solely across religious lines). The chocolate factory can hold tours and stuff and the surrounding areas can have shops and touristy things. Maybe there's a secret underground area to the factory with a big shrine.

Maybe not as extreme, personally I think it's more that people will start to get suspicious if you don't show up in sermons and rituals often enough. Basically, unless you have a reason that's considered valid, the locals will think you're a weirdo that might be up to no good, and some of the more zealous believers might even confront you about it. Still, keep doing that and you might eventually get dragged to the church for participation in a more direct way.
This is mostly the case for laypeople, though. If you're part of the clergy, your obligation increases alongside your social status as well. I imagine you probably really can't skip the relevant feast days without a good reason.

let's take hawaii as a distance and cultural example, it takes 2500 nautical miles to sail from california to hawaii which usually lasts 2-3 weeks using modern day technology. even though both are american states, hawaiian culture is drastically different than typical american culture.

now the distance for the island of namakubi to the northern tip of atoyavik is a little over a third of the distance of the hawaii-california example.
what i get from the current lore proposals we have is that we are not as technologically advanced as other nations nor do we have a big enough population to support a large naval fleet, which is why we have a general idea of the people that are able to fight are usually part of small raiding parties or are hired as mercenaries.

in climate anon's map, we also see that namakubi has an oceanic climate (ex. united kingdom, new zealand, pacific northwest) so an island paradise is probably out of the question. this could also affect the culture drastically from the normal tropical monsoon climate that the mainland has.

these were the objective details i got from reading the entries.
my suggestion for a slight change in culture would be that locals of namakubi still practice the idea of birth, suffering, death, rebirth but the influence of hololive countries have them more accepting of holo gods, deeming them to have a longer life cycle and in order to maintain balance, have to cull the increasing amount of 2views and nijis. maybe they continue to exist because the holo continent hires that island for dirty work against niji/indie islands.

>what i get from the current lore proposals we have is that we are not as technologically advanced as other nations nor do we have a big enough population to support a large naval fleet
Are we, though? I'm still not sure where that impression comes from. At least for me, the reason /meat/ partakes in small raiding parties is not because /meat/ cannot field a large army, but because the main purpose of the army is not to engage in traditional warfare to begin with. If anything, we probably *don't* want a large army.

i assumed the military would be small since the lore detailed that the military consisted of individuals who possessed mai's blessing, which is said to only be granted to a small amount of the populace, and i imagine those that can't regenerate like them, are probably working other jobs

>> No.19867665

hawaii is different from america because it was a completely separate group of people, colonized by a melting pot culture. if it were rome, there wouldn't be any question. we are not changing the culture to be any more accessible to normal folk. i have repeatedly suggested the alternative of merely hiding the /meat/ culture while still maintaining it's full presence, can't we shift the conversation to that, instead? i don't think the clergy would ever accept a perverted version of /meat/ culture.

>> No.19868310

Yes, and that's unrelated to our tech level or our ability to support a large navy (although having a bigger population base would likely increase the amount of people with Mai's blessing).

>> No.19868771

>>19867665
i disagree with you entirely, plus this is not changing the culture to be accessible to normal folk nor is it hiding from public sight, it just shifts the cycle towards indies and nijis.
>Establishing themselves above the natives who later become instruments of their will, they continue their worship of their gods, refining their rituals and conducting their holy work.
if you read the history section of the lore, /meat/ individuals shaped the thinking of the native population, and natives of the mainland would be incredibly different than the natives of the london-esque climate of the island.

>>19868310
most people that writefag about /meat/ have this idea that we are operating at an early pre-industrial era of civilization- not too advanced and not too barbaric, looking at stories like the Takeus one for example. introduction of chuubanite probably would not change that too much.
for overall population, there's really is no metric to how we can gauge it. the number of ips per thread? sub count? views per week? whatever the case, i'm picturing it wouldn't be that big compared to active hololive threads.

>> No.19869129

Yes, which would make /meat/ about as technologically advanced as other countries (outlines like /inf/ and /nasa/ notwithstanding). Fair point regarding the population, though.

/meat/ cultists all come from /jp/land, the natives all had their thinking shaped by the cultists, /meat/ conquered an island that wasn't originally owned by the natives. why would there be any difference in how the /meat/ cultists controled the /meat/ natives once they conquered a new region? you want to change the culture to make it more accessible to hololive people, you initially described it as "dipping your toes into BDSM" which we all pointed out would be a perversion of /meat/ culture. now the claim is that we are making an exception for holo, while undoing the mild-exception we previously had for indies? you know we still eat indies, too, right? we would still eat hololivers, else it would be a perversion of our culture. we still torture, kill, and consume their gods, and the main reason they have problems with us is because of that. if a problem exists, it wont be solved by perverting the culture of this one island. also, we are fairly advanced in terms of our chuubanite use, and medical knowledge. we are differently advanced, which has left us differently primitive, but whatever. it's not often that i dislike a suggestion or piece of content made by my fellow /meat/heads, but this i am completely against. the culture is enforced strongly by the clergy, and each member has close ties to the others, so i see absolutely no reason why there would be anything but the appearance of a dumbing down of culture. you can claim that isn't what you're doing by covering it in pedantic, but it will all lead to the same result. the cycle of life isn't supposed to be something applied selectively when it's convenient, we are, at best, apolitical mercenaries with friendly demeanors, and at worst indiscriminate god-eating terrorists, we shouldn't take a side. just like we have political allies in hololive, we also have political allies in nijisanji, and especially in the indies, your suggestion is inherently a perversion and watering down of /meat/ culture.

/rose/ is open to trade for our cocoa, spices and fruits. Currently, they can offer us products for skincare and bathing, although there are potentially more on the table (my suggestion to them is minerals, once we have the analysis that will allow us to determine the distribution of resources in the world).
I'm in favour of trade, with details that can be worked out later, but I want to know how others here think about that.

>> No.19871135

again, i don't mean to sound overly harsh, i would just prefer it if we didn't pervert any aspect of our culture, which for some reason you seem to be insisting on. i have no idea why you would want that, or why you would think that would make sense, especially since every example you tossed at us and then disregarded as soon as we retorted was some contextually unique condition that you were trying to use to justify the general case that cultures in normal civilizations whose cultures aren't completely dominated by their religious scripture might have instances where weaknesses in their culture exist. i am just saying we shouldn't want or expect any of that.

i agree with your judgements. depending on how our medical knowledge has evolved, we might know more or less about skincare and hygiene, mostly focused on survival and not luxury, but it might be useful depending on how we use it, but still, minerals would be the ideal.

A lot of assumptions this anon is making, plus the guy laid out the facts from the rentry articles and it looks like you're pulling head canon out your ass.

The island's British/Pacific Northwestern oceanic climate would also mean changes to the diet and clothing of the natives. The climate would require them to be wearing multiple layers, rarely exposing skin. This also means they would have more fairer skin than the southern /meat/heads. The crops would also fit the climate, similar to agriculture in Britain (wheat, oats, barley). So maybe the Norse aspect of the Nahuatl-Norse fusion can come into play here.

>> No.19871410

I think we're more skilled at patching up people and keeping them from developing things like necrosis and sepsis, while /rose/ would logically be more skilled in making (reasonably) healthy people look fabulous, so we can probably complement each other in the medical field (assuming they're receptive to our medicines and treatments). In fact, we can probably incorporate /rose/ products to help with our /become/ ritual preparation in the appearance department, given that chuuba gods are generally rather pretty.
I'll keep the thread updated on the trade deal and what resources /rose/ have for trading.

laid out facts from the rentry to support a non sequitur. for someone who makes claims about assumptions, you sure are making a lot of assumptions about what that comment said, given you haven't even read it yet, apparently. i like your suggestion with focusing more on norse aspects of our culture, but keep in mind that this will secretly be used as a base to send spoils from raids back to the mainland. they'll get what they need to participate in /meat/ culture, and that's all i am requesting, that we keep the culture of /meat/ pure, and undivided.

Also a minor comment about the island's climate: I don't think it's meant to be oceanic, but rather it didn't get coloured, as you can see many smaller islands on the climate map also has a similar colour, even if it poses a sharp contrast to nearby larger landmasses.
Judging by the current map, the island's latitude should be ~15 N, and it is next to a warm current going from the tropics to the holo continent. As such, its climate would likely be more like tropical rainforest all year round, due to the humidity and moderating effect of the ocean around it.

Given the similar climate of the island compared with /meat/ proper, I think the inhabitants will likely have similar food crops. While they might not originally have maize (and thus relegated to either less nutritious cassava, or labour-intensive rice) if we assume it originated in the southern hemisphere, /meat/ will likely introduce that to the island. Because of that, the population density will likely not differ much from /meat/ mainland, assuming the lack of external factors.

now you're moving the goal post, i'm becoming wary of the possibility that you are being disingenuous with these arguments. were there natives to the small island we conquered that weren't already /meat/? if so, there would probably be differences in things like economics, or sociology or what not, but the religion would be constant. you keep bringing up examples without giving context, this is perhaps the first time where your example has more relevance to what we are discussing than you were implying. the spanish inquisition was about religion, as is /meat/, so while non-religious things might not be effected all that much, religion would absolutely be one of the major changes they enforced. if you take a different example, rome was so strong armed that their neighbors believed they were romans, and acted in accordance to roman culture, despite not being romans. so by that one example, not only would the island have /meat/'s culture in full, but the surrounding area would believe themselves to be part of /meat/. now, i'm not disingenuous, so i wont make the claim that one example in all of history that fits my argument is the default that we must live by, but i will ask you in the future to refrain from using this style of discussion, as it is always more complicated than you are making it out to be, and you seem to never be interested in going into the details about any of the conditions that lead to these historical situations.
