What is /asp/?

A thread for aspiring vtubers! Whether your goal is to make the journey as an independent streamer or to gain experience and build a portfolio for agency auditions. Let's help each other grow and make it. Indies are welcome to selfpost, but shill responsibly. Share your knowledge, insights, feedback, discuss what has worked and what hasn't worked for you. And always remember to do your research before posting personally identifying information. That includes both in this thread and in your audition applications to agencies.

FAQ:
>Do I need a fully rigged model to be a vtuber?
Nope! You can get started as a simple .png character!

>I want to learn how to rig Live2D models, where do I go?
Brian Tsui (of Iron Vertex), Kira Omori and the official Live2D YouTube channels have many tutorials available.

>Where can I find artists/riggers?
vtuber.gg, ArtStation, DeviantArt, Twitter, Reddit, Skeb.jp, etc.

>I just want to get started, can I buy pre-made models?
Yes! Live2D models can be purchased off nizima.com (Live2D's official marketplace) or booth.pm (general Japanese indie artist website). Be sure to check compatibility with your facial tracking software!

>Where can I learn how to digital market myself?
https://learndigital.withgoogle.com/digitalgarage

>Where can I find some good games to stream?
https://twitchtracker.com/games
https://sullygnome.com/

>Twitch or YouTube?
The general rule of thumb is Twitch if your content is primarily based on livestreaming and YouTube if your content is primarily pre-recorded and edited.

>Do you think there's an audience for X, Y, Z content?
First, ask yourself if you would watch a streamer of your skill and experience. Second, do a check on social media and look to see if other streamers are already creating similar content. Don't limit yourself to vtubers, include traditional real life streamers to scope out a potential audience.

my two personal picks for "who I'd expect to make it into niji if anyone from here were to get picked" would be:
Lex Parte (who I've actually seen shilled in other threads in the past) given how he's been inclining over the past months, utilizes obs in ways that I don't see many others do, and his his general disposition being a very comfortable and inviting one Professor Bloom for his musical abilities. I remember him also saying in the past that he had auditioned back when he first started streaming but with the amount of stuff he has under his belt now in relation to vtubing I'd believe he could make a strong audition

If your singing is subpar, not bad nor good, would putting it in your audition be a debuff? Or should you sing ironically retarded to make it more humorous? Also how long would the duration be, just 30-40 secs of the chorus?

This is only 4 hours but I think you'd be interested to see the pacing and at 3:00:00 mark I just straight up AFK and remind my friends and viewers to self-care. Even though only half the team came back and we didn't continue the gameplay it's important to keep things light-hearted.

Prepare food beforehand. Take your meds, hydrate, go easy on energy drinks/caffeine because the crash is not worth it on an endurance run (for me at least). Even a 3 hour stream I've started putting aside a whole 2 hours to prepare... even shaved and brushed my teeth and stuff. Hope this helps.

Holopro has extremely reasonable requirements: stream at least 3 times a week continuously for one year. I'd say if you're applying as a pure streamer without a decent youtube following doing something other than vtubing(singing covers, ASMR, etc.), it's a waste of time unless you have hard evidence you've been streaming 3 times a week or more for at least one full year. If it's something that you're doing for fun there is nothing wrong with it and, assuming it has some level of quality & you advertise well enough, there is some audience for it. If you want to get big though, the audience for it is pretty limited.

It sort of is but it depends. Most corpos will have a non-competitive clause so you can't be a vtuber for another corpo. They could technically hold you to this even if you were independent though I doubt most would. But if it leaked and you got the opportunity to just make more money indie-streaming and slowly leaving the corpo, they would probably sue you for "stealing" their customers and damaging their company.

I think lore is overlooked even by corps. I'm not saying don't play games and chat like a typical vtuber, but everyone loves a good story so sprinkling in lore videos would add a lot. If you're not solely doing lore then it doesn't take anything away either since people can just ignore it if they don't care.

I think lore is even more powerful with corps like nijisanji or hololive. Imagine, someone cyborg from the future comes to kill Vox but then it turns out its just a ruse to mess with Vox. Anyone who likes either of these two Vtubers will be more likely to check out the other one since their lore is now connected. This play was huge for Fulgur. I think corpos shouldn't have everything muddled together because it would just be confusing, but connecting lore cross-pollenates audiences extremely well. If you're an indie vtuber, it's a weaker form of collab that can add to also literally collabing with the person,

I think it can also be a vehicle for other things. Say your lore is that you're an AI and you can use your followers' computers to give yourself more processing power which in turn can give you a better model or something. That lore also puts stakes into following you. Vox's stakes were that he wanted to rebuild his kingdom to surpass the numbers Tokugawa had.

I think way too many indie chuubas either have no lore or have a single sentence in their bio like "I'm a mandrake" and just ignore it after that. I don't think it necessarily hurts them but it's a huge missed opportunity to suck in more people. I saw one envtuber was considering making an RPG for their lore and it got a lot of attention.

Genuine question for lorefags. How many of you are actively streaming and what are your numbers that can be contributed to your lore? Almost all of the aspies currently streaming don't do anything with their lore.

Callie - magical catgirl
>streams games, makes custom models, collabs with a racist skeleton
Bodega - bodega rat
>has flavor text channel point redeems but does art and plays games. nothing beyond that touches lore.
Bloom - singing teacher
>barely any lore or kayfabe because that's just him irl. flavor text redeems and nothing more beyond that.
You're all shitting on lorechuubas who have one word lore but all these aspies are already streaming and their lore almost never shows up beyond flavor text. Which ones of you have the super detailed and intricate lore and why aren't you streaming?

Most vtubers in big companies are trained in singing, voice acting, acting in general, gaming, and marketing such as parasocial relationships and online marketing. Even the ones that pretend they were surprised to be accepted actually have a lot of experience and are (probably) bullshitting that as part of whatever character they were told to play. And they ARE playing a character, even if some of them incorporate large parts of themselves into the character. Look no further than Kaguya Luna, her reincarnation is totally different despite having the same voice (though less exaggerated).

People overestimate how long it takes to give attention to lore. It's something you can literally think about in bed while you're falling asleep/waking up. Unlike a manga or a book, you have to be a real big idiot to "write" yourself into a corner with vtuber lore. Vtuber lore is on par with fanfiction in regards to how easy it is to write.

>what are your numbers that can be contributed to your lore?
It's really hard to know who followed you for the lore unless you look at VOD views which I don't have since all my lore is just twitter posts. But looking at the analytics, I get most of my profile views from my "now streaming" posts followed very closely by my lore posts which includes media like pictures.

>Callie
I have no idea how she's so popular because honestly I find her voice annoying. She does do a lot of collabs though (which people sometimes sleep on) with other poptubers.

>Bodega
Artist buff.

>Prof. Bloom
Singer buff (biggest buff besides big corpo buff), though to be honest he's live right now and has less than 50 viewers do I wouldn't say he's big exactly.

One thing you have to be careful of is that good lore can buff you but you don't want to sink too much time into it because at the end of the day actually streaming games etc is the most important.

Kek, what these people are inadvertently doing is just making everyone else with a little more experience look better. Choosing between a 100k+ streamer vs. 5k streamer is a no brainer, but a 5k streamer would look good compared to the dozens of 0views who’re applying.

It’s just like for regular jobs: if you have 1.5 years of significant work experience after graduating with a high GPA and are coming with amazing references for a job that requires 3 years, go ahead and apply! But if you apply as a just fresh grad, more likely than not, all you’re doing is saturating the applicant pool and making someone else look good.

Hololive and Niji don’t need to take chances with 0views or people with 0 experience but have the “potential” anymore, unlike when they were first starting out. It’s much better to hire those who their current chuubas know or someone who’s at the top of their game. Wanna audition without either of those? It’s better to spend that time doing your content creation and networking reps. Auditions are never gonna stop happening anyway. Do it when you’re actually ready to take on the job.
