What is /asp/?

A thread for aspiring vtubers! Whether your goal is to make the journey as an independent streamer or to gain experience and build a portfolio for agency auditions. Let's help each other grow and make it. Indies are welcome to selfpost, but shill responsibly. Share your knowledge, insights, feedback, discuss what has worked and what hasn't worked for you. And always remember to do your research before posting personally identifying information. That includes both in this thread and in your audition applications to agencies.

FAQ:
>Do I need a fully rigged model to be a vtuber?
Nope! You can get started as a simple .png character!

>I want to learn how to rig Live2D models, where do I go?
Brian Tsui (of Iron Vertex), Kira Omori and the official Live2D YouTube channels have many tutorials available.

>Where can I find artists/riggers?
vtuber.gg, ArtStation, DeviantArt, Twitter, Reddit, Skeb.jp, etc.

>I just want to get started, can I buy pre-made models?
Yes! Live2D models can be purchased off nizima.com (Live2D's official marketplace) or booth.pm (general Japanese indie artist website). Be sure to check compatibility with your facial tracking software!

>Where can I learn how to digital market myself?
https://learndigital.withgoogle.com/digitalgarage

>Where can I find some good games to stream?
https://twitchtracker.com/games
https://sullygnome.com/

>Twitch or YouTube?
The general rule of thumb is Twitch if your content is primarily based on livestreaming and YouTube if your content is primarily pre-recorded and edited.

>Do you think there's an audience for X, Y, Z content?
First, ask yourself if you would watch a streamer of your skill and experience. Second, do a check on social media and look to see if other streamers are already creating similar content. Don't limit yourself to vtubers, include traditional real life streamers to scope out a potential audience.

I like space/astronomy/etc. And some "light" sci-fi.
Also I wanted to do something at least a little different and turn some particular vtuber design tropes (cat ears etc.) and turn it into something (hopefully) interesting. Of course though, I came up with the idea a year ago and have been working on it on and off, even now.

Learned how to rig for more customization and to save money. When you open it at first, it seems pretty overwhelming, but it actually is pretty easy, the difficult part is making a model look good.

You'll have an easier time learning if you're already experienced with art. Syafire's Live2D guides are a little bit outdated, and don't show all of the features of Live2D, but will get you understanding the basics. I also recommend Brian Tsui and Kira Omori's tutorials. Once you got most of the stuff down, watching professionals do Live2D rigging streams can also help.

Why the absolute fuck did you do this?

Also go to therapy, you have low self esteem. Which is just your internal monologue always defaulting to negative shit instead of average thoughts. You're mentally diseased, it's not your personality. Stop thinking about yourself, be friendly with others and genuinely care about others, not just yourself. You're assuming a lot about others that struggled with the same shit all their lives and overcame it overtime. No one is born with charisma. No one loves literally everything about vtubing. Go talk to a fucking catboy on twitter with a mid 20s swimmers body bishie png, 300 people will want to fuck you and you'll be in the 50 viewer range in a few months if you post a schedule and stick to it.

You're fucking killing me, what the absolute fuck.

You're not growing because you're a sad sack, you're not growing because you aren't growing as a person. Also leave 4chan, go follow some 40-200 follow streamers on twitter and reply to their pinned with something nice. Think about how happy you'd be if someone replied to your shit and said something friendly about your design.

thanks for your input, I'm not sure how much you watched but must have been quite a bit and I'm glad. also i apologize for upsetting you, which is totally understandable you feel that way. I did show a mock-up of a male model (picrel). The one I'm currently using is just very comforting to me.

To address the therapy and negativity. I get that I'm not normal and probably could benefit from therapy but at the same time i feel like it won't do anything. I won't bore you with monologuing but i fully agree that this focusing on myself creates a lot of issues and turns me into an annoying person. I should focus on making others happy, nobody wants to listen to someone being sad forever. I thought maybe in a world where everyone is so positive some counterweight would help but maybe i was wrong. This was a one-off stream and I'm sure I won't do it again. If i continue streaming I'll do my best to clean up my act internally and "on-stage". Focusing on becoming a better person...

I'm watching all of it. I feel bad for you, I felt the same way for a long time. You're hurting inside because your thought patterns are literally driving you insane. Your voice is really attractive or I wouldn't be trying even half this hard. You also talked to yourself for two hours straight, that's near fucking impossible for most people. And you're interesting for it. You really have to stop going insane, you have everything you need to succeed and I've seen hundreds of people in these threads. You're literally one of the one, maybe two, I've seen and thought "Oh they could do this for a living." CBT would help you.

https://www.therapistaid.com/worksheets/cognitive-model-example-practice.pdf

Start doing this instead. When you have negative thoughts you have to actively encourage more positive thoughts, or at least neutral thoughts. Don't run away from your feelings but try to shape yourself into a person you want to be. Do small things that make other people happy and instead of thinking "Oh I'm so terrible, oh I'm a fuck up, oh I'll fail," try to focus on the here and now, you're catastrophizing. You're also actively catastrophizing as you speak, no one minds that you're upset for your stream, but you mind that you're upset.

The drawing looks great, maybe give them a more "bishie" haircut. Try to find a good 2D artist that's done attractive male designs in the past.

I don't really understand what exactly you expect from streaming in general, you sound disappointed about your numbers but at the same time you don't make a ton of effort to grow besides just streaming everyday, you didn't even shill yourself on this board after all
I also think you kinda already decided you don't want to stream and are making excuses to no longer put in effort
Ask yourself what you would do in your time that you are not streaming, would you be happier by stopping completely
You seem to think that everyone else is better than you and you downplay your numbers by a ton
You look at your analytics and just says they are "nothing" which is really worrying because they are better than a ton of people
You have a good voice and a good mic, i would say think long and hard if you want to do this but if you do, put in effort, maybe just stream less but put more effort to shill yourself and the kind of content you do on your streams, it will make you happier

Aside from your mental troubles, I think that you just need to learn to speak with a bit more energy and enthusiasm, maybe pick some better more mainstream games if you can find any you like. They don't need to be modern ones, just something that'll make people who are familiar with it more likely to stop by. I'm fortunate enough that I can just completely be myself and am a natural people person and always find really funny, challenging, and unusual ways to play games. The biggest problem for me has been overcoming my own mental health obstacles and financial/hardware limitation. I gotta say though, I really recommend doing a mix of both multiplayer and single player games. Play together with your viewers and friends for authentic maximum audience engagement. Single player it's great to break the game and laugh together at the bugs and ridiculousness of story mode (Call of Duty). You don't enjoy having your ideal female type on your screen 24/7 and getting to look up her skirt and bully beta males? Self-insert weeb male fashion is fucking boring too. Bahroo has somewhere close to a decade of content creation experience under his belt so much that people literally 5+times his size know him and a massive, massive past audience. You have nothing.

Stop using bahroo as an example and at least use someone like Porcelain Maid who's still an early adopter and artist with a following prior to streaming and has buddied up with and streamed with a lot of the bigger named females, some before they were even famous. this is the takeaway. anons that just go babi because they see vtubers as a glorified profile pic are just vtweeters. if you want to be a vtuber you need to stream and streaming means entertaining viewers.

no viewer turns into a random 0view's stream and thinks
>i wonder what this no name's personal fetishes are and how much they jack off at their own OC's lore and design
viewers come to a stream to be entertained and almost every anon here that wants to go babi are doing it because they want to masturbate themselves on stream with zero thought to the viewers.

entertain yourself all you want just realize that it won't be entertaining to your viewers and you're ngmi.

i'm not in it to make friends, i'm in it to entertain people and interact with other human beings
i get your worry but honestly, i just want to do it, and i will try my best to get good at it because for me it's important

Friendship helps a lot. If you engage in any negative self-talk while alone you need to train yourself to not do it, or at least train yourself to respond to it with positive self-talk. Try to think about what your grateful for in life every time you find yourself despairing over what might be wrong with your life.

I see. Drink some of that water then
>i'm not in it to make friends, i'm in it to entertain people and interact with other human beings
"Interacting with other human beings" constitutes what I was getting at with my comments about making friends. What I really meant is that I doubt your need for social fulfillment is going to be met by streaming in a way that will substitute real world socialization or more intimate online socialization

I have real life friends, i'm not in need of social fulfillment, i'm in need of something to do that will make me happier because nowadays i have nothing i can be proud of
I'm not even aiming that big, i just want to create content that i like and have people watch it

you're not going to get it with streaming. you'll replace whatever is making you feel like shit with stress from number chasing and content creation. if you just want to make friends, you can do it easier, cheaper and with less effort compared to becoming a chuuba.

what i would do in place of streaming is literally nothing, while just the idea of trying to do it and planning it keeps my head ocuppied and leaves the bad thoughts away
not going to dismiss you completely but i think i can take it

Step away from the computer for god's sake. The answer is right in front of you and you are ignoring it

it's not that hard to be better than asp, especially since most chuubas here aren't serious about growing.

Thank you for taking the time to watch it. Good to know that I might be leaving new viewers confused with inside jokes, I'll try to keep that and the other points about chat interaction and setlist size in mind. Have some tummy as appreciation
