That's just how the cycle usually goes anon. A lot of my favorite youtubers from 2010 became streamers because not only is it more profitable, but it's saves them 1-4 hours of editing time. I originally watched vtubers because they were doing the old youtuber formula again, but now even they switched to streaming. I'm just happy she got to bow out on her own terms, honestly. There's another timeline where she doesn't rally the fanbase, the Multiple AI Project goes off without a hitch, and VTubing turns out even more corporate-centered and manufactured. But she not only fired off a warning shot not to underestimate the human behind the model, but stayed with the brand for years afterward just getting better and better as a performer.
As sad as it is to see Rushia go, for instance, I'd much rather see her channel disappear than get resurrected with a new voice toeing the company line even harder.

Scripted, pre-recorded videos are not that better either. Kizuna Ai is extremely popular and she a very important part of the industry, but her videos felt too artificial to me. some of them sing or make covers and thats cool i guess but im realizing just how big the generational gap between kizuna and current vtubers is, it makes me a bit sad to think that there will genuinely never be anybody like her because why would they? the current is best and theres 10x more people into vtubing in its current state of vstreaming than actual vtubing

the last live genuinely felt like an actual concert, like an actual virtual idol and it was amazing

You know what? So far the hardest cope to me is not even Kizuna going on hiatus, it's how people really don't give a fuck. Or to be more precise, how the current vtubing audience doesn't give a fuck. Despite /vt/ being a small fraction of it, the fact that there are next to no threads interested in talking about it made me realize where we truly were.

I'd be lying if I say that I was still watching her recently, but she always has been in the back of my mind. I remember thinking to myself back then when she debuted how I was interested to see how far she goes and where the whole vtubing where will go too, and her going on hiatus made me fully realized this: That 1st era has unironically ended for a while.
What made me interested was more the character than the person behind. I liked to joke how it was like watching some anime live, not because she's 2D but because she's ""a super intelligent AI connecting with humans"". And that act being extended with her legitimately doing stuff like appearing in comedy shows, traveling the world as a screen and surprising people far into rural zones with "what the fuck the 2D girl in the screen is talking to us???".

What >>19191074 said is seriously something I considered a while back too:
>i realize like 90% of the vtubers now are more like vstreamers
I'm not here to argue if it's better or not, but what I can say for sure is that it's just not the same, and it certainly doesn't attract the same audience. It's also not what I'm interested in, which is why I understand now why I've lost interest over the past years.

Kizuna's backstory/lore was incredibly unique.
Now all we get is "hello i am a [magical hybrid] anime girl and i do things normal humans do for some reason"
other than the temporary VA switch, the chinese drama, she also took a huge hit when the fucking retards at youtube removed community captions, she was my first experience actually regularly watching content that wasn't in english.

I'm going to miss the top notch quality of her lives and I can only hope the team behind the production gets to work on spreading that quality for other notable talents meanwhile AI-chan sleeps.

>> No.19193763

I dont care about her general content. There are enough other chuubas that can do covers, games, comedy bits, dances etc decently. But the 3Ds, there’s no one who can pick up that mantle. The industry just simply loses that as a whole. And it’s a structural problem, other companies are too stubborn and stick with their own tech, and can’t throw so much resources at just a single talent without it being unfair to the rest. If a single holo would get a show like that, all the others would have to as well, which is impossible.

I don't know how to feel man. I never thought I would feel so many things over something like this. I love her so much more than I thought I ever would. She is talented as fuck, I loved her smug expression, and her energy.

The Last Live was far beyond my expectations. Ai's tech was leaps and bounds ahead of everyone else back in 2016 and the passage of time hasn't changed that. Other companies are slacking hard. I really, really wish she hadn't gotten fucked over so hard with the multiple Ai thing.

I think I will always feel a bit bitter that vtuber fans today don't even know who she is or what she did for this industry. Ai deserves a lot more recognition. Its been pointed out already, but the lack of threads about Ai's hiatus is very telling about what the vtuber audience in general is like now. Rushia gets a multi day sticky, but Oyabun gets nothing. Its sad.

I was there when she first started. Her videos were weird and the topics were really not what you would have expected. But that just made them so much more interesting. Vtubers now just feel so goddamn sterile now. Watch any recent debut and they all follow the same exact formula. I would say even now Ai's videos are far more creative in comparison.

Even if she never comes back I'll never forget her. I hope she has a good life.

Sleeping indefinitely, graduation, or whatever you want to call it is pretty weird. I'm not sure the industry as a whole has really figured it out yet. Or maybe they have and this is just what fans will have to accept as reality. When vtubers retire it's akin to death or worse. Yeah you can follow the real person or hope they reincarnate, but the vtuber is fundamentally different.

In most cases there's little chance of them coming back. No life to lead beyond what's on the screen. No "where are they now?" after they've gone. From the time they show up they're already on full burn until the person behind the curtain calls it quits or they're removed.

There's so many ways she could have gone out, but I think AI-chan made a good decision that keeps the hope alive. Everything she's done leading up to her last live gives strength to the idea that she can defy the odds and that she'll come back. We're lucky she's able to retain her legacy through her youtube channels, her fans have an anime to look forward to, she can "stay connected" through producers that can use cevio ai kizuna, and she's perpetuated the idea that even though her sleep is indefinite she can still wake up.

And she closed it out by giving us the best live the industry has ever seen. Even up to the very end she sets the bar for what is possible and inspires others to do better. So with great sorrow I wish her well, but with greater optimism, and like so many of the vtubers she's touched, I await her return.

Yeah. Honestly as far as vtubing history goes, Kizuna was far more iconic and significant than Rushia ever was. Kizuna coined the fucking term and pioneered this niche, proving that vtubing has a place and a future on the internet, allowing further growth and investment in the field. To top it all off she left with grace, one of the most dignified graduations for a vtuber I've ever seen. Yet just because she's tangentially related to China she's completely forgotten and despised. She's the veteran OG and deserves a fond farewell at the very least.

I wonder how many of her viewers are going through a similar phase in their life.
I left my job in order to discover what I wanted to do with my life at the same time too...

Sometimes you need some perspective and to stop doing the things you do to understand what's really important to you.
From the clone saga and what happened after I could tell that she had issues inherited from her childhood which created an unhealthy set of beliefs and caused her to destroy the dream she aspired to make a reality.

Her dream of Kizuna AI was a projection of the honest and happy self that she dreamed of having.
The fact that she is taking time off means that she became more honest with her own desires.
She will be able to learn a lot about herself and do a lot of progress in her time of recovery.

I hope she can come back healthy and show us her real self one day.

If she wants to recover from that bad event and memory and become popular again I can share the magic to do it.
First she has to become the person that would not have allowed that bad event to happen.
I don't know how much she recovered, but the key is to revisit her past and imagine a better outcome to her traumatic events.
This includes recognizing her family issues and giving up on her desire to have perfect parents.

After her recovery, she can do an emotional stream where she shares her emotions related to her past issues and shows that she changed and learned how to be healthy. However this time instead of hiding behind Kizuna AI her real self, she should show her real self with no restraints.
That should get her back some popularity.

But she chose to separate from upd8 and continue on Kizuna's legacy. But she's still human and had to take a lot of shit with no break at all.

only reason ai failed was because she was more of a variety actor compared to the newer generation who leans heavily towards the GFE or at least partially attempts to do so. Like even if you wanted to throw money at Ai, she barely streams or do anything because she is so busy managing her own company and setting up concerts, etc. Other chuubas can just concentrate on streaming and let the staff handle it, but when you are part of the staff, how do you even manage at that point.

This isn't a translation but from what I remember
She talked about how grateful she was for these 5 years as Kizuna Ai, how we helped so many of her dreams to come true. She alluded to there being some things she regretted, which I suspect was referring to the clone saga, and mentioned there were times where things were difficult for her and that it wasn't always just happiness. She expressed her hesitations with choosing whether to go to sleep or not, and that while there's lots of things that could have happened if she kept going, there's things that will happen because she's leaving too. She promised she would come back someday better than ever with her new update.

Overall was very bittersweet.

If it makes you or anyone else feel better, it really sounded like she didn't want to be done with Kizuna Ai. She said that there were still more things she still wanted to do and achieve and that she wasn't completely satisfied about ending it here, and she was very insistent about the wording of coming back someday, moreso than you'd expect if it was really just trying to soften the graudation.

From her speech combined with the ig post from her voice it feels like she really loves Kizuna Ai but is both kind of burned out and wants to be able to grow herself by doing other things. Hard to say whether the stars will align for her to return, but there migh really be hope for a glorious comeback several years down the line. That's the feeling I got anyway.

Streaming is a quantity over quality market. The market for entertainment is split right down the middle right now. One half is TikTok shit, where people want to binge watch 2 hours worth of 15 second clips. The other half is people that want to watch 5 hour streams where the learn every little thing about the person but really get nothing else out of it.

The thing they both have in common though is low production cost and value. It is such a weird time to work in the entertainment industry where some random asshole that just moves awkwardly in front of the camera and lip syncs for 10 seconds at a time can be as famous with people as a movie star.

I'm a vocaloidfag so I was happy about the announcement. KZN obviously can't replace non-chan, that wouldn't even make sense. Releasing a CeVIO is about keeping up fan engagement because people can use Kizuna's voice to make their own songs.

KZN and the anime are just ways meant to keep excitement about Kizuna going while she sleeps, so that she still has a chance to make a comeback. It'd be easier to do if there are still people using KZN or caring about the anime.
