The Streaming Era, the Nijisanji Dynasty through to the early Hololive Dynasty. Ended with various disputed breakpoints, notably the Holocaust, the Taiwan Disaster and the various graduations of 2020.
>The Iron Age
The Age of English. Precursor began with the Covid Influx and Holo Gen 4, core period began with HoloEN, effectively persists until now. A period of high initial peak and gradual decline, punctuated by occasional sharp events such as the graduation of Coco and the ongoing turmoil of the termination of Rushia.

Streaming era, gradual but not hyperbolic increase in popularity. Ended around the chinese drama and EN release. Vtubers became too powerful for their own good.

High increase in viewershit resulted in a high decrease in quality, tubers are now stagnating in their comfort zone afraid to risk. Full streams/segments translations became less frequent and now 2min clips are the meta, new viewers don't know their oshi outside of one-lines memes. Died, personality, when the last bastion of hope(coco) graduated.

Not everything is lost, small vtubers are more daring and entertaining than before. Nothing worth mentioning beside this. Dying now that cover is being viewed as a black company.

Stone Age: everything pre-Tsukino Mito. Essentially what >>19011216 calls The Golden Age. I wasn't around back then, so I don't know much about that period.

Golden Age: started with Tsukino Mito and ended around the time Hololive Gen 4 debuted. Every new debut was a huge event, even if it's a small indie. The vtubing community was small, but it felt like a circle of close friends.

Silver Age: Started after Hololive Gen 4 debuted. Boom of translated clips, some clips got hundreds of thousands or even more than 1 million views. Western audience has discovered vtubers. Insanely rapid growth of the vtubing market, both on the corpo side and on the indie side. Ended after Hololive EN became mainstream and after 10+ Holomembers hit the 1 million subscribers mark.

Bronze Age (present day, present time): now that insane growth is gone, what is left is stagnation. Drama is everywhere. Showing your real face is becoming the new norm (kson, Veibae, small indies). Talking about politics on stream is slowly becoming more common, too. The market is oversatured, a debut of a new indie is something not even worth talking about. Even a new gen of Nijisanji doesn't generate that much attention. Lots of people became vtubers purely because of the hype, not because they actually love vtubing. The community isn't as tightly knit as it used to be.
