So I watched the video for those anon's who couldn't.

One of Nemu's best friends, who was like a sister, got married to a guy who ended up being abusive to her and had multiple federal crime allegations placed upon him. Eventually the man ended up committing suicide so he would not face trial for the things he did.

As to Nemu's part in this, she had given her friend access to her bank accounts and was trying to help them financially get through both the initial legal situation and then help her friend get out from a divorced. Unfortunately this ultimately has left Nemu with almost no savings and thus Nemu will have to sell her house to help pay the debts she's been left hanging with and move into a new place, which is why she will be on Hiatus for two or three weeks coming up as she moves and takes care of things relating to that.

Throughout the video she beats herself up wishing she had taken more sponsorships or done more "selling out", not for herself but so she could have tried to help them more before he chose to end his life. It really sucks to see her this sad about it and bashing herself despite being one of the most ethical Vtubers in the community in how she operates.

Nemu is good people and too kind for her own good.

Sounds like the prosecutors filed multiple different charges. The more charges, the longer it the trial takes, which means more time spent, and even if you have a public defender assigned that's time you aren't earning an income. And you aren't even guaranteed to win on all the charges.

Alternatively you can take a deal to plea guilty on some of the lesser charges and get the more serious ones dropped. Sure, you go to jail for awhile, but you avoid an extended trial with no guaranteed outcome.
