Would you say Matsuri does the whole GFE thing? I've seen it mentioned in past threads but I guess I just don't feel that way about her. She dotes on her matsurisu during SC reads and often in closing, but whenever she does something approaching GFE during her streams it's usually in a context that is obviously joking (i.e. subs are friends, members are boyfriends).

Short answer, yes.

Long answer, it's weird cause almost everything is in limbo. She regularly says those sweet words of loving us in a very adoring voice and tone, and shower us with cute and sometimes unexpected kisses (I believe it is called burikko and azatoi), but we know that she is acting and she's acting really well. She wants us to be hardcore fans but she also wants us to be normal. She dislikes unicorns but she sympathizes with them. She is "a bit" of a pervert but still maintains the seiso image of her. That limbo may make people want more of her. However, those are just the icing on the cake. I feel that her main selling point is her personality or rather how she told us her story. She keeps us engaged with her story while also responding to our comments. That makes the whole audience part of the conversation as if we're all her acquaintances. She also regularly rely on her fans for her support be it about games or emotions. The latter is the dangerous one cause it keeps making you worry about anything that might happen to her. Thus, she creates a parasocial relationship with her audience which may as well be a GFE with the cute acts mixed in.

Yes, kind of. There's the whole dynamic of Matsuri being menhera/yandere/overly loving over matsurisu and not wanting them to commit uwaki, or "just Matsuri" and sometimes acting very cutesy or lovey-dovey with Matsurisu, saying really sweet things, giving kisses etc... But in the end she every now and then reminds that it's (mostly?) an act. Well, to be more exact, how she described it in a recent Ark stream was "I like/appreciate matsurisu (as people, individuals), but I think I also love matsurisu (concept of/idea of)" (I'm paraphrasing from memory btw, take it with a grain of salt) so take that as you will. I think after several weak moments in her career seeing most matsurisu stick through them with her has given her a higher appreciation of them over time, but that's just my view on it.

So, I guess you could say yes, she does GFE, but in moderation and she also does many things to counteract it like having those "realtalk" moments where she gives a disclaimer that "uwaki is fine btw I'm just joking, support all holomem" etc. Also not giving a shit about collabing with males, openly talking about past relationship experiences (only girls so far tho), talking shit about unicorns etc is a surefire way to prevent any hardcore gachis from forming.
Personally I enjoy the GFE a lot and is one of my favorite things about her, especially during stuff like (some) utawakus or late night chill streams, but I try not to take it too seriously, it's just getting that warm feeling from her being cute or close to her viewers that I like. I do love Matsuri a bit more than I probably should but I feel that I'm still fairly levelheaded partly thanks to her keeping it real every now and then.

She used to do this a lot more in the past and that's what I think has raised her appreciation towards the fans that have sticked through, since not only has she tried her best to prevent those situations from happening, but she also seems to regret doing those things, or rather, makes jokes about how vulnerable and menhera she used to be. To which I am happy to agree; her mental fortitude is much better nowadays and it makes my life as a matsurisu much easier, not having to worry over minute things she used to lose her shit over.

Anyways, point being that I don't believe the GFE is a complete act, as Both Matsuri and matsurisu have been through so many ups and downs during her career, where Matsuri has often relied on matsurisu's support, help and feedback to make it through some of those times. She's had times when she's broken down in mengen wondering why matsurisu even follow her at all at x points in time (implying many of her shortcomings, mistakes she's made etc) and I'd be hard pressed to think they were just crocodile tears. After all, Matsuri is liked exactly for being fairly genuine in her mood and personality as a chuuba. Well, I think GFE is the wrong word here at this point, it's something else, but not just a complete act either. Then again, that's just my feelings, other people could feel a lot differently than I do.

The limbo thing is a pretty good description honestly. Balacing at the edge of going full gachi or staying within reasonable limits I guess. Though I'll be honest it didn't work for shit for me, I went gachi as fuck a long time ago already lmao
