What is /asp/?

A thread for aspiring vtubers! Whether your goal is to make the journey as an independent streamer or to gain experience and build a portfolio for agency auditions. Let's help each other grow and make it. Indies are welcome to selfpost, but shill responsibly. Share your knowledge, insights, feedback, discuss what has worked and what hasn't worked for you. And always remember to do your research before posting personally identifying information. That includes both in this thread and in your audition applications to agencies.

FAQ:
>Do I need a fully rigged model to be a vtuber?
Nope! You can get started as a simple .png character!

>I want to learn how to rig Live2D models, where do I go?
Brian Tsui (of Iron Vertex), Kira Omori and the official Live2D YouTube channels have many tutorials available.

>Where can I find artists/riggers?
vtuber.gg, ArtStation, DeviantArt, Twitter, Reddit, Skeb.jp, etc.

>I just want to get started, can I buy pre-made models?
Yes! Live2D models can be purchased off nizima.com (Live2D's official marketplace) or booth.pm (general Japanese indie artist website). Be sure to check compatibility with your facial tracking software!

>Where can I learn how to digital market myself?
https://learndigital.withgoogle.com/digitalgarage

>Where can I find some good games to stream?
https://twitchtracker.com/games
https://sullygnome.com/

>Twitch or YouTube?
The general rule of thumb is Twitch if your content is primarily based on livestreaming and YouTube if your content is primarily pre-recorded and edited.

>Do you think there's an audience for X, Y, Z content?
First, ask yourself if you would watch a streamer of your skill and experience. Second, do a check on social media and look to see if other streamers are already creating similar content. Don't limit yourself to vtubers, include traditional real life streamers to scope out a potential audience.

But are you entertaining on stream? I’ve seen many VTubers have no dead air but they’re so fucking boring or grating to listen to.

>> No.18131130

Today on /asp/
>what is "entertainment"

>> No.18131271

>>18130127
The rest just comes down to you as an entertainer then, because it doesn't sound like you're doing anything on the technical side wrong.

This is my personal opinion, but I think not networking can really hurt growth early on because you have no "default" viewership from people who know who check you out simply because they know you or you're part of a group or social circle of people who are seen interacting. You can obviously grow fine without networking but it makes things a lot harder.

>> No.18131782

>>18131130
It's a lot harder to quantify without seeing the streams. Yes, "entertainment is subjective" is what you'll see parroted, but if you ask a thousand average internet media consumers which they more entertaining, 4 hours of an awkward, droning person wood carving or 4 hours of a sociable witty person they'd pick the latter 99% of the time.

I think it's a matter of comparing yourself to other similarly styled entertainers at various sizes that you enjoy and seeing what it is makes them entertaining to you. Do you have that same ability? No? What are you missing. What are areas you can improve, etc. That's why it's good to seek out creators you enjoy to find things you can emulate.

>> No.18133904

>>18116879
What's the reasoning behind this? I've actually thought of doing karaoke snippets on TikTok, Twitter and YouTube shorts. It sounds like a low-effort way to get views but does it really work?

And also, why are covers until you have an audience a bad idea? I've already released a few, but yeah, they barely break double digits.

>> No.18134125

>>18133904
a proper song cover takes 1 month minimum to mix and publish. if you're talking about yourself singing a song on stream like a karaoke that's not a cover.

>> No.18134499

>>18133904
its because the time/effort required to do both
i don't know how in depth you're going with your covers in terms of mixing/tuning/video editing but a lot of people will just upload simple singing clips/lightly edited recordings on social media because they're just easier to push out
i have covers from like last march and april; the former is almost near breaking 100 views and the latter is in the mid 300s; both have like sub 20 likes on yt
compare this to like, small covers that i put out on twitter and you see a lot more engagement for a lot less effort
however, i will say that if you like the concept of doing covers and the mixing and making the MVs for the sake of it that you should still make them if you enjoy doing them but also try and make some shorter content for the timeline as well

Do you guys think that even someone that is naturally pretty quiet can still become a entertaining chuuba? I noticed in the one stream i made a year ago i had way too much trouble to speak exactly what's on my mind and make it entertaining so it was just a lot of "hmmms" and humming

A lot of people come here and just ask "So how do I do this?" and despite the answer always being exactly the same, research other successful people who do what you want to do. Like I said, it's like people just pick out parts the dislike.

>Find someone who creates content you enjoy.

>Find ways to replicate but personalize that content.

>Don't expect to succeed from the start, it can take years.

>Don't try and create content you don't already consume or enjoy.

Explain how even one of those is a piece of "shitty" advice.

The only thing I can find at a glance on this owner's portfolio is a rhythm game with very good reviews, which seems to have good support. Probably a sign that they'll be somewhat true to their word on supporting talents but I question how they actually plan to make money. 20% of memberships is very low for them, so I feel like there might be a catch.

After your stream, watch the vod and see where you can improve.

Literally just stream is unironically the best advice, just do it and then reflect and try new things. I feel like people who think you need to be all set up and pretty to start aren't familiar with the streaming world outside of vtubing.

what makes a game enjoyable to watch it with a streamer? genuine q. i realize it relies heavily on the streamer itself but do you like/dislike text heavy things where they have to read a lot, do you prefer action centered fps, do you prefer seeing their reactions to story beats, etc etc.

I don’t want to link myself to this place, I hope you’ll understand. I don’t advertise myself as an oneesan VTuber and never intended to become like one. It just gradually happened.

Imagine an older sister IRL that teases the shit out of you yet works hard to spoil you with gifts and bakes you your favorite cookies or takes you to your favorite places. That is me and my very nature. While I know my audience mainly consists of adults, I still treat them as I would with my younger siblings. Some people just need a bit of love that they may not have had from their family and a little push to get out of the dark place in their life. While I can never become their actual family, I’m here for them if they want advice or just to have fun together with everyone else.

I’m still small enough to remember everyone’s names, how they’re doing in life, their worries, and goals, but going corpo will make it difficult to properly give everyone attention which makes me feel sad. It’s still my dream to join a big VTuber company, but I’ll still continue as an indie (I refuse to graduate) even if my dream comes true

If privacy and security are an issue for you, contact me instead then. My streaming company will include full-spectrum emotional/mental health needs and basic moving from surviving to living needs, sounds like you're okay in most other needs aside from love/safety though.

Streaming obviously means working from home, at the forefront of the fastest growing and most powerful platform the internet (aka the world) has to offer. It'll be a while tho before formal patent and full-time, still in the investing and crowdfunding stage while leading by example on confronting my own menhera obstacles.

yes, this has always been the case. those who stay consistent end up growing because everyone else weeds themselves out in the long run. this is why setting a schedule is so important because it keeps you on track to stream regularly.

At first glance, your silhouette feels unbalanced with all of that light solid yellow in the torso compared to the black along the inside edges and legs/hips. Not that it's necessarily bad, but it feels lopsided and uneven, especially with the bottom area squared off the way that it is. Also important to keep in mind that this will only be even more exaggerated when you're streaming and your lower half won't be visible 95% of the time, making the yellow even more dominant.

Quick two seconds messing around with just the bodysuit's edges, forgive it for being messy and it's just first impulse suggestions more than anything else. But you can bring out some little parallels with the cat ear shape with these kinds of triangular rounded borders and tie in some small pink highlights to even further bring those elements together.
