What is /asp/?

A thread for aspiring vtubers! Whether your goal is to make the journey as an independent streamer or to gain experience and build a portfolio for agency auditions. Let's help each other grow and make it. Indies are welcome to selfpost, but shill responsibly. Share your knowledge, insights, feedback, discuss what has worked and what hasn't worked for you. And always remember to do your research before posting personally identifying information. That includes both in this thread and in your audition applications to agencies.

FAQ:
>Do I need a fully rigged model to be a vtuber?
Nope! You can get started as a simple .png character!

>I want to learn how to rig Live2D models, where do I go?
Brian Tsui (of Iron Vertex), Kira Omori and the official Live2D YouTube channels have many tutorials available.

>Where can I find artists/riggers?
vtuber.gg, ArtStation, DeviantArt, Twitter, Reddit, Skeb.jp, etc.

>I just want to get started, can I buy pre-made models?
Yes! Live2D models can be purchased off nizima.com (Live2D's official marketplace) or booth.pm (general Japanese indie artist website). Be sure to check compatibility with your facial tracking software!

>Where can I learn how to digital market myself?
https://learndigital.withgoogle.com/digitalgarage

>Where can I find some good games to stream?
https://twitchtracker.com/games
https://sullygnome.com/

>Twitch or YouTube?
The general rule of thumb is Twitch if your content is primarily based on livestreaming and YouTube if your content is primarily pre-recorded and edited.

>Do you think there's an audience for X, Y, Z content?
First, ask yourself if you would watch a streamer of your skill and experience. Second, do a check on social media and look to see if other streamers are already creating similar content. Don't limit yourself to vtubers, include traditional real life streamers to scope out a potential audience.

RNNoise is generally better at removing background noise, but it pretty much removes anything that's not speech, so if you humm or whistle it won't be picked up.
Speex is all about adjustability. Basically set a threshold for your mic to start picking up noise, so if you're not talking it just disables the mic.

not sure if anyone will be able to answer this but any tips on avoiding a streamer/turning a collab down? a friend of a friend broke into chuuba-ing a while back and has hit it off. behind the scenes she's a massive bitch, she's constantly shittalking her audience and other streamers, even people she collabs with. since i have been gaining traction she has been trying to talk to me more but i want to keep her as far as possible. i don't want to cause any drama but she is menhara in an extremely unfun way, and the way she acts about her audience depresses me. but since we have mutual friends i feel like it's just going to get more and more weird that i've just been giving her short answers and not promoing her back.

You have to be kidding. Both X and Council are doing so well they could easily quit their jobs and make more than enough money to survive from VTubing. Others doing even better just sets high expectations. It's why there's so much hate for Sana, she seems to prefer working whatever her other job is and she's taking a slot that could be going to someone who's willing to put their all into working for Hololive. All you have to do as a streamer is make a good impression as an indie, then use that as a jumping point to get into Holo or Niji. Then you're set for life.

i'm hoping this is the case and i know people who fall on her side were not good friends to begin with but it's an unnecessary stress (as you can tell, since i'm running over every possible worst case scenario). my hope is that she is sane enough to not to try to drag this in public if she gets turned down but i have honestly had a very bad track record of enforcing boundaries, thinking a person will react like a normal human, only for them to completely erupt and try to drag other people into the mess. hopefully she is bright enough to realize i have mutually assured destruction on her

Anon, have you done many collabs before? Are you planning any in the future?

If you've not done collabs before, then you can use an excuse I did for a while - I promised my first time to another streamer, and needed to get things set-up for that. Or just say you'd rather not do collabs for a while.

If you do do collabs, and she's asking to do a game that you both have, then you're a little bit more stuck.
Sure, you can just say "no, but thank you", but if she's chasing for reasons, you're either going to have to say "I don't want to provide one", give her a phoney but reasonable one, or burn your bridges.
Do you have evidence of her shittalk? If you have the screencaps, you have backup on it. If you don't have screencaps, then you might be stuck (Again)

The other option is to do some 'playtesting'. Do a few rounds of whatever it is before the stream (a week or two). If she's not seen you play before, and she's good... Then be shit. Fuck up the gameplay, ruin her plans, and make it look like you're completely incompetent. If you can't play the game, then she's not going to want to play with you.

Alternatively, buckle up, put on your fake smile, and just do the collab. Sure, she might badmouth you afterwards, but then you've got the receipts to avoid doing it again.

I need some advice on some opsec shit. I have a handle I've been using for a while that I mostly use for art and random thoughts of the day type stuff. I've been planning on streaming with that handle for a while, and even designed a character that's tied to the name. My main concerns is I've gained a decent following of people on that handle. Not a lot, but enough that would be difficult to rebuild overnight. If any maniac dug through my old accounts all they'd really find is a few boring, cringy things from when I was a teenager so that's not a huge concern. Should I separate now with a new, separate, account for non-streaming shit? My dilemma is I don't know if I should separate the art from the streaming, or keep it all together and live with my weirdly specific username for the rest of my online art career.

Really hard to answer, you can try really hard and not get anywhere, you should look at smaller starting vtubers, the ones who are growing, etc, and try to understand them and livestreaming in general.

I think if you really put effort and hard work you can maintain a certain audience regardless of how talented or entertaining you naturally are, but when it comes to actually building that audience... that is the real challenge. Really that is the biggest challenge in streaming.

To answer your question, it depends on way too many factors but it's definitely 100% possible. The hardest part is starting the fire, but once it starts it can get much bigger than 100 viewers in way less than a year.

What does working hard even mean? I think you can answer all this yourself. It's possible but it's not a simple grind game.

Are numbers really the only way to know if you're improving?
Yes, but the activities you do as a streamer aren't limited to just going live and talking. Editing, networking, researching trends and learning to advertise yourself, and all the other skills that go into growing your stream are also part of streaming. All of those things are done with the sole purpose of growth unless you're the "I just wanna make something good." type of person. New idea don't matter a majority of the timehonestly, they're cool but who out there is doing anything new to grow? . For example which Vtubers do you know of in the last few years has done anything remotely unique? Now how many of those grew due to it?

I think Ludwig's advice is great, but one of the most important parts he touches on is gaining that initial audience. He started out in the smash community he didn't just say "hey I'm gonna make a video where I eat everything at In and Out EXCEPT I do this twist thing." and boom it was a banger, he was part of a community which is what helped him form his initial audience and connections within that community

The stream over and you know what, time to contribute. Though I've not posted on 4chan since before Gamergate, so forgive me if I newfag a little.
(also Thanks for the feedback for those who told me to post in /wvt/ I'll remember that next time.)

I wanna go over a lot of shit i've learned for those who want to get into Vtubing but first I wanna explain some background.
So I've been in this game since Jan of 2021, Me and my wife debuted on YouTube alongside Jusagi in what we called "Gen 0" of Isekai Inc. A prospective vtuber company. We attempted the whole company angle to see how profitable it would be in the long run, so we gave it until June of 2021 to see how the structure of YouTube streaming was and if we could grow from it.We figured if we could get big on YouTube, we could support any new talents and build them up as well.

We tried a lot of things, monitored trends, did shorts, tried a little of everything to hook into YouTube. Shit sucks, so we scrapped it and just went our separate ways and started going on Twitch.

So my first advice for aspiring vtubers:
Don't use YouTube as your streaming platform, but absolutely make YouTube content. Game reviews, anime reviews, speed-runs, even reading creepypasta or greentext stories, that's all fine just fucking do it doesn't matter how rough or shit it is. just upload.

Now for anyone who hasn't heard of us, We're Elle and Booster, a long time married couple that stream together, we're a very strange niche because most people watch vtubers to simp on the qt animu grill but we decided to try just..being that cute couple that constantly dunk on each other, trying to be a Pat & Paige of vtubing. It's brought us a lot of struggles, and a year later we're still not doing great. But that's actually pretty okay as we started vtubing MAINLY to spend more time with each other.

Unfortunately though, there was a point where our goal changed into getting REALLY big and that's when fun was lost and we started getting upset over numbers, and it almost caused a divorce amongst a lot of other marital problems, and in some weird twisted cycle this anxiety caused the numbers to drop.

My second piece of advice for aspiring vtubers:
Seriously, truly, factually, do not worry about how many viewers you have, if you have even 1 or 2 viewers, you're doing better than a lot of twitch. Remember Vtubers aren't special, you're just another twitch streamer, so instead of comparing yourself to other vtubers, compare yourself to other twitch streamers in your category.

Near our anniversary we revealed 2 new models for elle, a high quality 3D model, and a 2D model. Along with that we showed off a very unique "Mana system" that allowed users to redeem channel points to charge mana and cast huge summoning spells.
Theses three things are cool but...

My Third piece of advice for aspiring vtubers:
Your model, and your stream gimmicks, they only matter as an initial hook, if you want to get big and do well, you will need to worry more about your Zatsudan skills, your ability to tell stories, Your ability find hooks in what you see in game or chat and from those hooks make a funny moment, a funny story, even if you have to lie and make the story up on the spot, it's a very good skill to have if you can do it well.

my fourth piece of advice is obviously pretty fucking obvious:
Twitter is shit don't use it, you won't see any significant growth using twitter, and like someone in chat said, growing an audience from existing discord audience is a solid tactic.

>> No.17933123

>>17933003
It's not really a cut and run, you just aren't being specifically catered to because you aren't a sustainable audience. It's a few dozen viewers at best who won't all watch you to begin with. At worst they stop coming to 4chan or posting in the threads, and why should that matter if your only desire is to watch a streamer that entertains you? The only reason anyone would care is because they want some parasocial shit where they can talk to "A girl on 4chan that's JUST LIKE ME!"

Yeah he just constantly postured himself to be some great businessman with business tips and business videos that would help you run stream like a business and that could make you big at Vtubing yet failed to produce any actual talents or succeed at all himself. If he was anything more than a grifter, he could've easily produced 2 or 3 vtubers without needing some big "org", applied those tips to said talents and then really showed he's able to successfully create a thriving streamer.

There's quite a bit of non-shitty videos on there, but the point is that it's very easy to get people's eyes on your stuff if you can pull off something decent with 30 seconds or so. Clips from your channel, things that are the most representative of your content are the best thing to post to Tiktok and they're easily the most popular things that lead to actual retention. Silly memes or popular sounds are fine for filler bullshit to help you maybe get people on to your account to see more, but you'll find the best retention from actual clips of content you streamed because it actually let's people know what to expect. twitter is great for networking and translates to new viewers. however most vtubers don't understand how to properly utilize twitter. avoid the "post your png" posts and other clout chasing tweets and move on. Personally I can't tell how well you could carve a space for yourself strictly as a vtuber. Maybe there's a niche for femanons that are desperate for dick like the niisanji fans, maybe there isn't. But I know for certain that there's a niche in there for a black youtuber with an anime avatar, if you understand the difference. Agreed, this is the unluckyfag's clipping channel substitute
>we decided to try just..being that cute couple that constantly dunk on each other
>It's brought us a lot of struggles
Of course it did. This is a lonely person hobby, you're more or less rubbing your relationship into other people's faces. People would only watch you for cuteshipping if you had your separate, loyal audiences, and even that would be at least 50% people interested in you individually. As it is, I imagine it'd be easier for you guys to build a hate fanbase that wants to see you break up instead
>and it almost caused a divorce amongst a lot of other marital problems
Oops, cucked. And yeah, giving male attention to your wife while you have to deal with all the bad side of her(and she your own) is a recipe for divorce.
>they only matter as an initial hook
Agreed, tricks can only bring you so far. You need talent, determination, charisma and luck.
>NEVER *NOT* PLAY A GAME BECAUSE YOU WANT CHAT TO SEE FIRST IMPRESSIONS
The obvious thing here is that if you aren't entertaining giving your first impression, you shouldn't do it. The same way, if you can't lie about beign surprised and stuff, you shouldn't try.
>just fucking be yourself, don't try to "play a character" you'll hate it.
This is middle-school level advice but I'm sure someone needs to hear it. Same goes for voice, btw. If you can't keep the act for LONGS(literal years) periods of time, don't do it. Most people are better hamming up sides of themselves and picking stuff along the way than trying to make an entirely new persona.

I actually did drop my link a few threads ago and was told I sound like someone trying not to wake up their parents. Still working on that, but here's a png for now

Stop trying to make an attractive or "hot' male if you don't know what girls like to begin with. Why would you go that route if you already know you can't appeal to women that way?

Being a couple should have little to nothing to do with their failure. Buffpup does great, as do AiCandii, Vei, Cimrai, and plenty of other IRL streamers as well. Being in a relationship only matters if your content is based around GFE/BFE. If you're open from the start it should be a non-issue.

Just go into what you know. You will fail 100% of the time to "appeal to women" if you don't even know what they like to begin with and just grab some bishie avatar that doesn't suit you, your voice, or your personality except instead of being like those who came before you and slowly building this up over time with no investment, you're investing into an entire character design, Live2D art, and rig to sit there and try and flirt with girls who you don't know the first thing about talking to.

this, 100% this. this is the most generic and unhelpful advice but you need to be you. you cannot and will not magically develop a personality that appeal to women if you're just starting from scratch.

Watch Banderas and Maimoto to find out what's appealing in their streams. Seduce Millie. Get into manjisanjiEN.
Otherwise, you're more likely to attract gay guys with a masculine model. Again, watching Banderas and Maimoto is also adviced for this route.

Twitch only accepts a video bitrate of 6000 plus or minus a couple hundred for audio so you're plenty fine with double that.

I have a friend who streams and I want to support her since I think she is actually funny and relaxing to listen to. I have no fucking clue how to do that since I don't have any social media aside from youtube/twitch. Figure this is the best place to ask how do you shill people you know and help them grow.

Look at otome games and get a fujo artist. Make sure you're charismatic already. Some women find not having had female attention before endearing. Look at popular male vtubers already on the scene and how they present themselves and how they look. >>17968159 you can listen to this guy if you want but don't be a hoodie/jacket m*le or animal. The ideal should be taking a concept you like and just having it done by a fujo.

Appealing to a female audience/bros that want an attractive model is pretty simple. Just look at popular otome games and make something not super young/femboy. The popular shit right now seems to be late twenties looking guys that are a little masculine but still well taken care of looking. New males from niji JP and EN all follow this design pattern.

Hey /asp/ I wanna get some tips on how I'm doing and what I can improve on my videos. However I'm currently not using a Live2D Model/PNG cause I figured it wouldn't be exactly useful for edited videos.

I am however building up a portfolio slowly to eventually audition for an Agency. However with no PNG or anything, is it still cool if I link my two videos I've made so far?
