I'm not sure it does. Anime growth in the west was always a concurrent growth but the period in which dub was the only real option was much slower than you'd think, especially if you excluded Dragon ball.
Compared to the growth when people were watching unsubbed VHS tapes and the growth of when official streaming sites came out, it's noticeable that there was less appeal.
