The general rule of thumb is Twitch if your content is primarily based on livestreaming and YouTube if your content is primarily pre-recorded and edited.

First, ask yourself if you would watch a streamer of your skill and experience. Second, do a check on social media and look to see if other streamers are already creating similar content. Don't limit yourself to vtubers, include traditional real life streamers to scope out a potential audience.

Hello /asp/friends, I've got a microphone question (I am terribad at tech). Looking to upgrade from my headset to a seperate microphone so I could switch to in-ear headphones. Heres some information:
>My voice is (obviously) high-pitched and I am soft-spoken. I know nothing about audio aspect about ASMR but I would love to be able to gently whisper here and there, teasing my precious friends and just having fun with sounds.

If you do get an XLR don’t get the Scarlett, it’s overpriced and sometimes has an unfixable mechanical problem on Windows. I’ve been running with the U-Phoria UM2, it’s half the price and working really well.
(Looking around for used equipment is also a good idea if you’re on a budget)

my mic is about $50 (raizer seiren mini) and i noticed a popular indie uses it too. it's a lot about the mic filters on obs, so don't worry too much about the quality of the mic and more about researching what filters to use and how they work

the majority of western vtuber audience really don't give a shit. it's a carry over from jp vtubers where anonymity was more culturally valuable to create that sense of immersion. you have some incels and weebs who care but they're not audience you want anyway.

the IRL picture thing is more for your safety since people might recognize objects, location and other stuff in the picture to locate you. there are schizos everywhere. some JP idol in a safe house was located because of the reflections from her eye in a selfie she took from a balcony.

Because they like it. Not everything is some calculated plan, it feels like I'm talking to actual autists here...Some people just do what they want because they want to do it. If I face reveal, it doesn't mean I should've been a webcam streamer because what of the literal hundreds of hours when I don't want to be on camera? There's streamers who sometimes don't use their cam, by the same logic they should just never have turned it on if they weren't OK being on cam 24/7. How do I grow my YouTube channel? I have only ~20 views and 2-3 comments on my covers. I know consistency is a thing and I'm appreciative of those who comment but it kinda sucks.... I'm planning on covering more FOTM songs but there's a limit on how fast I can make covers :( Also feeling kinda burnt out. (yes, I like singing and enjoy making covers, I'd just like to get more exposure).

Your voice sounds good but it is impossible to eliminate the background fan sound so you will need to noise gate it and thus reduce mic quality.

how do I get over the fear of streaming? I don't know what twitch does, but (for instance) my first five Tiktok posts got 500+ views, then my sixth one got 25, and I worked back up from there. Tiktok will boost your first few posts, so that they can see what sort of appreciation they get, so to tell where to slot you in the algo. I'm plateauing at around 30 views for YouTube videos now. There's different emulators for every console, and a good number of them will have a module on Retroarch as well (so you can play with anything on Retroarch instead of having several folders for different emulators). All emulators might actually have different extra requirements like external files that aren't strictly legal to acquire before the emulator can run. Most people recommend Retroarch these days since it acts as a sort of all-in-one emulator for several consoles. You use it by downloading whatever emulators you need within the app itself; it refers to these as "cores." I could be be biased since I've been emulating games for over fifteen years myself, but I honestly find it more annoying to use than just using standalone emulators for whichever console I'm trying to play.

In Cubism 2d How do I make it so masks work situatonally? if u guys think the most hardest part is debuting or just pressing go live button. Or if you think once u make it 200-300 ur safe and u 'made' it. the real challenge for even bigger vtubers never ends, its the challenge of staying relevant. there are many vtubers that used to be big and well known in vtubing community, but now people have forgotten them because they get over shadowed by the crazy amount of new chuubas and even existing chuubas that are more 'entertaining'. keeping your viewers will be the biggest challenge of all. not growth.

i hate to say riding off someone else's fame sadly does seem to work in the vtuber community. does this mean you should use other vtubers as stepping stones? no but i doubt that will stop anyone. just because something's wrong morally won't stop people from doing it.

just know if you do use others to grow or as stepping stones, it will always show one way or another. so best to be yourself and have fun, seek out others to have fun with and not bigger vtubers. always stay within your own viewer range or else people will suspect you for a clout chaser.

Because if you mean like 200-300 ; this is the hardest and you will experience often ups and downs.

the idealistic view that your viewers will eat everything you stream is not true, some viewers will only like just chatting, or gaming, or asmr. you will see some content more popular then the other and you either have to make choice of sticking with that content and growing / keeping your viewer base but whenever u stream anything else you'll only keep about 20-30% or you stream anything you like and have your viewer base go up and down constantly, at sometime you'll lose some and keep smaller %. It's not easy.

ur long term fans will stay but new people will come and go constantly, keeping relevant is not easy for newer chuuba.

once u make it to 2k-3k viewer base u dont have to care that much. but that's not easy, at all.

I've been interested in this and I belive I have a chance but I'm having a hard time figuring out an "angle" to start. Any of you guys started from zero viewers on twitch just playing a game by yourself? How was it?

Funny thing is I have a few thousand followers on social media but I wanted vtubing to be something completely separated and a different persona and I do have experience building an audience but it seems much harder to do it in the vtuber scene.

As a regular streamer you can have any kind of audience or make any kind of content on youtube and once you have some people there you can say "Yo I'm starting to stream on twitch" and you'll have your first 20 viewers there. Basically I think it's ideal to have an initial spark even if it's very very small. Every streamer I know started from being involved in some scene or community, not a single one that just started with 0 viewers.

With vtubing you can only do that if you are an artist or leech of other vtubers. Maybe if you make some kind of anime related content you can do the transition too.

Category hoppers rarely stick around especially when you consider the amount of people category hopping would also need to be interested in vtubers, so hoping to get long-time viewers from that is next to impossible.

Big streamers regularly stream TV shows and movies now and comment on them, due to twitch's system you need to have someone report it as well as having it in your archive for them for the rights holder to look at in order to get your channel in trouble.

In other words, unless you grow massive just dont worry about it. Twitch is the wild west of streaming for a reason.
