What is /asp/?

A thread for aspiring vtubers! Whether your goal is to make the journey as an independent streamer or to gain experience and build a portfolio for agency auditions. Let's help each other grow and make it. Indies are welcome to selfpost, but shill responsibly. Share your knowledge, insights, feedback, discuss what has worked and what hasn't worked for you. And always remember to do your research before posting personally identifying information. That includes both in this thread and in your audition applications to agencies.

FAQ:
>Do I need a fully rigged model to be a vtuber?
Nope! You can get started as a simple .png character!

>I want to learn how to rig Live2D models, where do I go?
Brian Tsui (of Iron Vertex), Kira Omori and the official Live2D YouTube channels have many tutorials available.

>Where can I find artists/riggers?
vtuber.gg, ArtStation, DeviantArt, Twitter, Reddit, Skeb.jp, etc.

>I just want to get started, can I buy pre-made models?
Yes! Live2D models can be purchased off nizima.com (Live2D's official marketplace) or booth.pm (general Japanese indie artist website). Be sure to check compatibility with your facial tracking software!

>Where can I learn how to digital market myself?
https://learndigital.withgoogle.com/digitalgarage

>Where can I find some good games to stream?
https://twitchtracker.com/games
https://sullygnome.com/

>Twitch or YouTube?
The general rule of thumb is Twitch if your content is primarily based on livestreaming and YouTube if your content is primarily pre-recorded and edited.

>Do you think there's an audience for X, Y, Z content?
First, ask yourself if you would watch a streamer of your skill and experience. Second, do a check on social media and look to see if other streamers are already creating similar content. Don't limit yourself to vtubers, include traditional real life streamers to scope out a potential audience.

Hello /asp/friends, I've got a microphone question (I am terribad at tech). Looking to upgrade from my headset to a seperate microphone so I could switch to in-ear headphones. Heres some information:
>My voice is (obviously) high-pitched and I am soft-spoken. I know nothing about audio aspect about ASMR but I would love to be able to gently whisper here and there, teasing my precious friends and just having fun with sounds.
>The problem is that I can't sound treat my room nor I ever will (rent and me being a poorfag, I can only afford so much). I would love to have some recommendations. Don't think my room is loud, but it's not sound treated either. The best thing you'd be able to hear is computer fan sometimes and the classical keyboard + mouse.
>Is there no way to have fun with dynamic microphone? I am so confused about all of it.
I was looking at SHURE microphones, but then I'd also need an audioscarlet XLR? And how -good- is ElGato microphone really?
I am moving away from headset because of tension headaches due to my health issues.

the majority of western vtuber audience really don't give a shit. it's a carry over from jp vtubers where anonymity was more culturally valuable to create that sense of immersion. you have some incels and weebs who care but they're not audience you want anyway.

the IRL picture thing is more for your safety since people might recognize objects, location and other stuff in the picture to locate you. there are schizos everywhere. some JP idol in a safe house was located because of the reflections from her eye in a selfie she took from a balcony.

If I face reveal, it doesn't mean I should've been a webcam streamer because what of the literal hundreds of hours when I don't want to be on camera? The point of vtubing is to play the character you display. Showing your irl face just destorys it and I know I see alot of smaller vtubers going ' *Posts irl pic* Oh I'm sorry is your IMERSSION destroyed? '

I don't know what twitch does, but (for instance) my first five Tiktok posts got 500+ views, then my sixth one got 25, and I worked back up from there. There's different emulators for every console, and a good number of them will have a module on Retroarch as well (so you can play with anything on Retroarch instead of having several folders for different emulators). All emulators might actually have different extra requirements like external files that aren't strictly legal to acquire before the emulator can run. Like the other anon said, you'll get a better answer if you share which consoles in particular you're trying to emulate.
Most people recommend Retroarch these days since it acts as a sort of all-in-one emulator for several consoles. You use it by downloading whatever emulators you need within the app itself; it refers to these as "cores." I could be be biased since I've been emulating games for over fifteen years myself, but I honestly find it more annoying to use than just using standalone emulators for whichever console I'm trying to play.

I mean to live luxuriously sure, you probably need to be top 1k, but even at the lower end of the revenue stream there's people making plenty of money off of streaming part time to subsidize other activities and bills.

Once in a while you see the "minimum wage" meme thrown around here, but considering there's streamers who just stream a few hours a week in their spare time pulling in 10k+ a year before other revenue streams they might have, it really isn't that farfetched if you're a decent streamer. All that with spare time you would've otherwise spent watching youtube videos, masturbating, or doing other similar non-productive things

This will sound super cringe, I'm insanely depressed to the point where I attempted suicide and got put into a mental institution for it many years ago. Actually a menhera. Making people feel happy makes me feel happy as well. I'm not popular, but I have around some loyal viewers and making them laugh at all the stupid shit I do is why I'm able to wake up every day not wanting to kill myself (even though I'm taking antidepressants). Instead of the viewers having a parasocial relationship with the VTuber, it's the other way around for me as the VTuber themself.

There isn't really an end goal for me. I just want to make people happy so that I can feel like I'm worth something. Even though my dream goal is to make it into Nijisanji, I'll still continue my roommate account because I never want to forget my beginnings.

If you're not getting semi-frequent follows, you need to change things up. I don't mean stop playing Skyrim and start playing Oblivion. That's not much in the way of changing things.

If you only stream JRPGs, then maybe try playing 4X. Or a VN. Or puzzle. Or FPS. Mix it up.
Do a speedrun.
Or a challenge run (either in game [sword only] or in person [no pressing B]).
Or collab. Either with a friend, or just drop an open request in one of the mega discords for streamers/vtubers.
Or do a karaoke, reading, asmr, tier list stream.

I noticed my numbers had stagnated, so I played a different type of game for a guerilla stream, did a super long one, and have since seen those people turn up regularly in my other streams.

1k+ 2k+?

Because if you mean like 200-300 ; this is the hardest and you will experience often ups and downs.

the idealistic view that your viewers will eat everything you stream is not true, some viewers will only like just chatting, or gaming, or asmr. you will see some content more popular then the other and you either have to make choice of sticking with that content and growing / keeping your viewer base but whenever u stream anything else you'll only keep about 20-30% or you stream anything you like and have your viewer base go up and down constantly, at sometime you'll lose some and keep smaller %. It's not easy.

ur long term fans will stay but new people will come and go constantly, keeping relevant is not easy for newer chuuba.

once u make it to 2k-3k viewer base u dont have to care that much. but that's not easy, at all.

I've been interested in this and I belive I have a chance but I'm having a hard time figuring out an "angle" to start. Any of you guys started from zero viewers on twitch just playing a game by yourself? How was it?

Funny thing is I have a few thousand followers on social media but I wanted vtubing to be something completely separated and a different persona and I do have experience building an audience but it seems much harder to do it in the vtuber scene.

As a regular streamer you can have any kind of audience or make any kind of content on youtube and once you have some people there you can say "Yo I'm starting to stream on twitch" and you'll have your first 20 viewers there. Basically I think it's ideal to have an initial spark even if it's very very small. Every streamer I know started from being involved in some scene or community, not a single one that just started with 0 viewers.

With vtubing you can only do that if you are an artist or leech of other vtubers. Maybe if you make some kind of anime related content you can do the transition too.
