In a timeline where HoloEN never came into existence, at least at the time it did, what would've been of vtubing?
Would VShojo take over the whole market?
Did Nijisanji open an EN branch?
Maybe an indie gained the same popularity as Gura?
Was /vt/ never created or just something inevitable?

Before HoloEn there already were lots of Japanese and English Vtubers but it wasn't exactly till HoloEn that everything and everyone blew up. So I'm pretty sure without HoloEn Vtubing would have still remain relatively unknown to most people.

Just a reminder, you like the fun gaming streams pekora and korone started doing that hooked everyone up? nijisanji pioneered that with their first wave in 2018, the JK gumi was taking japan by storm with their newly-discovered formula of turning streamers into live2D streamers, but you never see them mentioned in /vt/.

remember hololive GAMERS? it was a response to nijisanji originally splitting their waves into gamers/normal streamers, which later got merged into a single entity, after they realized that you didnt really need gaming skill to be an entertaining streamer, also a live2D debuting into 3D form? new live2D costumes? nijisanji's idea, hell, even aqua playing apex which was the first real BOOM of hololive, can be tracked back to Kanae and Chihiro doing it first, in fact the entirity of how hololive performs can be tracked to nijisanji doing it first, incluiding english-speaking like hana macchia did too.

anyways im not saying one branch is better than the other (Kizuna AI, Kaguya Luna and others like Gorilla where the true pioneers) but seeing this post saying cover discovered the english language like they where some sort of geniouses is hilarious to me, specially when in fact it was COCO who did all the job, a girl who constantly and vocally said was held down by her own management and ended up RETIRING the company too.

Hololive existed before Nijisanji. Sora was a thing long before the first wave of Nijisanji debuted. But I'm not here for a history lesson. The schizo asked what would happen if Hololive EN never existed and I told him what would happen. Everything is built on what came before.

Even Kizuna Ai wasn't the first vtuber. There was other, less successful shit, before her.

hololive basically only had sora as a 3D vtuber trying to replicate kizuna ai before nijisanji debut, but they didnt really know anything about how to create content besides making sora, roboko and the rest do random things other vtubers where already doing, they where not even considered a "Generation" or a "wave" hence they are called gen 0, they didnt have plans at all. I think the best point of reference that still exists is watching that weird Virtual-san wa Miteiru anime where vtubing is still some experimental thing, Mito is presented as one of the main characters with many niji references (burning elf forest) while sora is just a minor character that barely gets screentime, it was different times.

it was only after niji's wave 1 explosion of multiple streamers that hololive quickly followed with the idea of creating gens using live2D (and their first real hit being FBK) which made them go in an actual direction instead of just being lost, at this point they where not even idols either, like subaru has already said, they just where changed to idols by the managers abruptly when they found out they where starting to get gachikois (somewhere around mid-gen 2 debut where they still had frequent collabs with nijisanji)

some others will tell you the story of how sora was "saved by christmas" which is in fact, true, by pure destiny she was the only one streaming and caught japanese attention and proved to cover that they could have a chance, but that only put her on the map rather than revolutionize it, if nijisanji had never happened cover would likely still be a semi-small company who only tried to push sora/roboko and the rest into semi-kizuna ai clones even today probably.

again, im not trying to say any branch is bad, I just like to tell stories of old chuubas on random threads.

wrong, sora debuted to promote cover's tech and they only changed their direction later then they open audition for roboco, and sora is always going toward idol/music since it was the reason sora and a-chan going to cover in the first place, there is a reason why they use "generation" not "wave", the time of gen 1 and gen 2 not become full "idol" simply because they just still testing the gen concept but always heading toward idol direction from the moment yagoo decide to change from just to promote their app as tech company with sora to become vtuber group where their goal is to make something like AKB or macross frontier (according to yagoo's holotalk)

but say hololive didnt start holo en, and therefore holo id (which is why they started en), and none of the things that led to holo id, then niji would prob have filled in the void and hololive wouldve promptly followed
