They don't want to stop, and they will not stop until they are almost immobilized, and drift through life never remembering anything after 9pm. If my dad was an alcoholic, like I've heard hers was, I wouldn't touch drinks if you paid me for it. My dad is a heavy chain smoker and it's horrible to see. He coughs his lungs out every morning and gets a smoke whenever he can. His front teeth rotted away. There was a time when he went clean for a couple years when I was a kid, but once he got into the habit again it got worse than ever. I can only imagine how much worse it would be if he were a drunkard instead.

I swore I'd never get addicted to any substance the way he has.
