Depends on the context of the DM.
My least favorite DM is something like.
"Hop on voice with me right now"
"Play x game with me right now"
People can ask me anything they want and i will even help them with stuff if i can.
but i don't really like it when people expect me to randomly drop everything i'm doing so that i can go and entertain them in dm's

Reposting the question here with some edits.
Now that there has been a trickling of vtubers leaving the threads I've started to wonder:
>Why do some vtubers leave while others stay?
>What is the motive behind those that choose to be involved with the threads?
>What are the conditions that prompted the exit for some and will others leave if subjected to those same conditions?
>If the latter question is no, why? What makes them different?
>Will the vtubers that leave still interact with those that stay?
>If yes, will the dynamics in their personal relationships change?
>Should a vtuber leave if their presence in the threads is looked at disparagingly by other vtubers?
>How will this affect the vtuber's community?
>Will viewers go with their favorite vtuber to other avenues and enjoy them where there's a better chance for the vtuber to interact with them?
>Do you think the recent exits would prompt a trickle down effect of more and more vtubers exiting the thread? Why or why not?
>Does this cast a new light on the possible functions, benefits, and disadvantages of both threads for both vtuber and viewer?
>Optional: Who do you think is most likely to follow suite?

Thank you. While not good as Vtubers, i’ve met a lot of cool people during my dive.

What shocks me is that i’ve learned that not every Indie on twitter is acutely aware of corpos. Some are oblivious, seeing vtubing in all it’s aspects as a hobby, and ironically, they are the most worthwhile ones to follow. I see glimmers of hope down here for the future of EN Vtubing, but the amount of wannabe unfiltered garbage is incalculable.

>> No.17025348

I both enjoy, and am terrified of, getting DMs. If they're of value, then I like it. I've DMed a few chuubas either highly relevant memes (it feels weird to tag them in someone else's post), or steam games on sale that would be up their alley, even in off-stream.

But if I get a DM that's just "hey", then what's the fucking point?

>> No.17025423

I honestly that vtubing is going to shift more and more to being a social activity, there's already countless chuubas in it just for that and that number will probably grow faster proportionally than existing top chuubas.
I'm not too sure how to feel about it, but at least it gets some of them doing their reps.

>> No.17025632

man I already feel like an anxious wreck about being a nuisance when I DM people I'm close to just to say hi, I don't get how someone can essentially cold-call a chuuba like that so casually

>> No.17025825

>Why do some vtubers leave while others stay?
Honestly the impression I've gotten is most of it is people that either didn't use 4chan before and came here to promote themselves to gain a community and quickly realized they don't fit in, or people already here realized they don't fit in as a known entity in a thread. I've used this website for literally more than half my life at this point and I'm still not comfortable with or used to having something I post responded to by name instead of Anonymous #12345.

>> No.17025846

Some of them might be children or they might be dealing with some mental issues.
I doubt you know who i am but i honestly don't have a problem with people DM'ing me. I even tolerate quite alot when it comes to behavior. But speaking for myself, someone like you would never have to worry or be scared to DM me. If you have a question or just want to know how i'm doing or something random, i will absolutely respond.

>> No.17025937

Well, that would imply streaming also shifted to a social activity, but I dunno about that.

>> No.17025942

That is an astute observation, something i've picked up on as well. It gives people an outlet to use and show off their OCs without needing something like full on roleplay or TTGs.

Also of note, anytime somebody "fleshposts" as they call it (showing their IRL identity) I make a point to stuff it away in a folder, no matter how insignificant they are, on the off chance one of them makes it to a corpo and nukes their (then-PL) twitter.

>> No.17026261

It's been roughly a year since these people started streaming and they're realizing they're NGMI and that the place they spent time in can't help them and is a shit hole. >> No.17027163

Anons, what are your thoughts on powermods? Users who mod for multiple streamers. I dislike it, because if you're moderating for two streamers, you can't be in all their streams, and I feel you should probably be in a plurality, if not majority, of someone's streams as a mod.
But a powermod knows their way around Twitch, and has proven experience to show that they can do their job.

Thanks anon, have a sword.
Very true, I've been dealing with a schizo about it, and he's currently on timeout because he threw a tantrum I didn't give him a sword.
I guess it depends what you're playing? Stardew is slow, pausable, and so if anything happens, the streamer can fix it. If you're playing Grandmaster Tier LoL or something, you can't take eyes off gameplay for a second, so you probably can't deal with chat.
GM probably wouldn't be a small streamer, but still.

>What shocks me is that i’ve learned that not every Indie on twitter is acutely aware of corpos. Some are oblivious, seeing vtubing in all it’s aspects as a hobby
Yep! This is how I saw it and why I was so surprised at the hololive stuff when I started streaming. When people asked me my favorite Holo, I would sort of freeze up because the only one I knew of was Ina from watching her gesture drawing streams, and I only watched those because I already watched a lot of art streaming/video content beforehand, not because she was in hololive. I scarcely knew what it was when I started, other than that the dog girl was annoying to hear and the red head girl yelled a lot.

Streaming has always been a hobby and that is why the existence of numberfriending has always been sort of strange. I have watched a 2-4 viewer no cam streamer for the last 4 years. He is not inclining, he is not gunning for the greats. He is just playing what he likes on stream, it is a hobby and fun to hang out and watch him. I found him while looking at a niche game category and have watched him since. That is how streaming has always felt to me and that is what I went into my own streaming with and why I sort of suck at advertising myself, at getting attention or "inclining", I think. I have mostly hovered around the same range for a while because I stream like a hobbyist, even if I wish I could wrap my head around being a better streamer.

>> No.17032245

If I streamed that's my take on it too. I'm here to learn how to set it up, learn how to be entertaining, and be me. I'm not looking to blow up. I have a job already.

I wonder how many chuubas even have expectations of this being any sort of reliable money as a side job at this point. If you manage to make it to ~100 viewers and it's bringing in a couple hundred USD every month I suppose its worth it, especially if you live in a 3rd world country.

just from my interactions around this board and in communities related to it, I've come to the realization that A) some people genuinely can't wrap their head around the fact that not everyone watches or cares about hololive and B) some people genuinely can't wrap their head around the fact that not everyone is streaming with the intention of making it a living. >when I finish my 2.0 model
that would be a great time to debut! I like it when people do their "debut" after establishing an audience because it lets some hype actually build, doing it with a new model would be a good excuse for it, too.

if you want to try it out and you can commit the time to actually schedule and stream, go for it! dead hour chuubas are the ones I end up checking out because there's basically no competition for attention if I'm wanting to put on a stream then.

nothing can mindbreak me harder than that time I spent 2 straight weeks making a moriko animation for a meme. if I survived that then I can take this lmao
twitch. mostly because Twitch Leecher can easily queue up a ton of VOD downloads to my archive server, all sorted by uploader and timestamped. I use Viddly for youtube downloads and it just dumps everything to one folder, and takes longer per hour than twitch leecher. also, I have a script set up that can grab the chatlogs for twitch VODs, and text searching the chatlogs can make certain edits waaaaaay shorter. I've not found or set up anything similar for youtube.
watch/skim through. for something like this it won't take as long per VOD, because I'll be looking for specific game events and I can just set it to high speed playback and watch the video feed for cues, but there's a lot of VODs to go through so it will still take a long time.

archive your VODs!! There's at least 3 videos I can think of that I wasn't able to make because the VODs weren't archived or were expired. Krimbo here, there's a lot of reasons I'm wild for streamloots, mostly i am pushing for partner which needs your viewers to play 500 cards in 40 days, but since I only stream 2-3 days a week it's a tight deadline. If I hit partner that's an extra 10% a payout I believe.

Basically I was told soundalerts was a good way to make money on stream but personally I don't like using the same stock everyone else is using. Every had like fart reverb and "suprise mother fucker" and I'm just not feeling that. So I was starting to work on sound stickers which i would trade art for voice lines and get vtuber voice lines to appear with stickers I drew. I was working on that when Leaflit told me about streamloots, it's basically an alert system that works like opening packs of cards. The thing that I don't like about it is, PRELOADED card sets are all one game, like DBD or Phasmo, but I don't play any of those games and if I did it's not like it's my main content, so it makes more sense for me to make my own cards that are tied to redeems and sound alerts that are not entirely focused to one game. I'll reply to myself here to explain why I like streamloots so much and why I think other vtubers should make the most of the system.

What is steamloots? Basically its just an alert system that can be used to show artwork while playing a sound when used. These can be tied to redeems, or giving out prizes like i do with sketches, so it ties a lot together in one neat little package.

For example this card here I made forces me to do 5 pushups and or jumping jacks, I have some cards that play a voice line from other vtubers ( i do not like recordings of my own voice while im talking in my stream ).

It's also fantastic for giving away as prizes or just giving cards to people for supporting you or being an active viewer. I have some meter building mechanics where I give away packs as prizes once it's full.

Lastly compared to subs which even as a partner you only ger 50%, right now I get 80% profit from streamloots, The viewers get more tools to interact with chat, and I am getting a ton of use out of my sketches and little pieces of art that would otherwise sit around being unused. I get pretty excited about making new cards with new effects and seeing what people like to play the most. Next up i will be making cards that shrink and grow my model.

Lastly I like how I can get the card system to work with twitch redeems, if people store up points they can buy packs which means viewers don't have to pay money to play along or be part of giveaways etc. Also it lets me clean up my redeems and not have 40 redeems sitting there that are not always applicable to my current stream.

I'm sure I didn't sell this system to you guys as well as I could have but I really think it has huge potential if managed right.

If you're into it check out my referrel link here: https://www.streamloots.com/krimbokills/referral?referralCode=krimbokills

This and the art doodle angle are actually great reasons to use this. Thanks for typing out that long list big guy. I honestly thought it was some weird NFT thing at first, but it's more like a random redeem generator that lets chat interact with the stream in more direct ways.

Throne is a proxy gift service that allows you to pay like a 5-10% fee, and buy items for a creator. They then handle shipping and addresses, so it protects vtubers from dox. A lot of vtubers have a Throne Wish list, here's an example: https://jointhrone.com/u/arypie

I would recommend either sending a Streamlabs donation, or sending Bits over gift subs desu. Subs have the worst cut for the streamer, they only get 50% of what you pay for subs with the rest going right into the Amazon coffers, while they get 100% of bits or a direct donation
