Even just hearing about minor vtubers I never heard of dying fills me with a weird existential dread. I think its because they're like fictional characters, but unlike cartoons you grew up with they actually die or retire or get fired and when they do its wayyyy too real. The escapism you were indulging in with them just instantly goes totally offline. Which is like a gutpunch of reality.

Like what is going to happen if someone like Gura were to die? How the fuck would the other girls keep up their roleplay personas and streaming schedules and the suspension of disbelief after that? Would they stream some kind of funeral or would everything just go dark like some of these other people? Its somehow extra morbid with vtubers.

There was a bilibili one who had a long saga of being sick with cancer in her ear ad brain, and must have either gotten mental from it, or her parents were controlling her and not allowing her to get help as they'd pull her out of the hospital several times. She made a post saying she ran away. Then eventually her obituary came out. Her page became a memorial site.
