You shouldn't really be that invested in EN scene in the first place. A source of entertainment sure, but don't invest yourself in something that would only set you up to disappointment. Allow me to take you back to early 2018 when Anitubers are still respected elsewhere. Vtubers have a lot of root in Anitubers scene, don't lie. But any way, in 2018, under the banner of "saving the anime industry", Joey the Anime man rallies all his Anitubers friends to support a project that will literally save anime bro. Back then, he is not that hated yet, and there are still fans in the Anitubers scene. Almost every big Anitubers you can name are involved like Mother basement, Gigguk etc. They are telling their fans to trust a foundation that The Anime man is behind. And the fans did? You know why? They are too invested. They believed these people are their actual friends, not just some influencers on YouTube who is influencing their opinions, like you are. They bought in to the friend experience

And like fans of Vtubers, there are a lot of people who wanted the friends experience. At the height of his popularity, The Anime man conduct a census with the support of his Anitubers friends who are telling all their fans who believe they are their friends. And people bought into it because they trust the English speaking funny anime men and women on YouTube, they answered sensitive information about themselves, their family, their mental illness and sent all of it to the foundation. However they know the info they are giving out are a bit sketchy and dangerous but they believe that Joey would never do anything wrongly with it. Around 100 thousands people participate

dude that was the year Mother's Basement spoonfed partskippers, made that shitty video about goblin slayer, and given how i'm surprised both of these things happened that year I'm also going to assume he made that idiotic video about card-game anime that year too.
If anitubers were respected in 2018 i can only imagine how far they've fallen since.

Afterwards, the sensitive information of around 100 thousands was sold to unknown sources. All the Anitubers retracted all their statement about the Foundation, stating they are not involved or know anything and that they only get paid. The ringleader of the Anitubers, the Anime man simply delete his Twitter post and never addressed it anymore. However the fans experience their first reality check. Most of the people they think of as friends, not just Joey, just really wanted money. They became too invested, they became stupid, they willingly give out their personal information to people they know was shady but thought their friends would never lie to them. But they aren't really your friends. They are just people on the television. After hearing that they can get paid just by telling their fans to do the Anime man survey to "save anime" they simply do that without a second thought. Ultimately the relationship are just a monetary one. They don't know you. They don't care about you. Why would they care if you harm yourself when it is unrelated to them? Before that the relationship truly feel like an anon and their oshis before hard reality set it. Most of the people related walk away with it because ultimately, it's just some data about your mental illness being sold, and the Anitubers are too popular and keep on being entertaining to be removed. However the next time the Anime man conduct a survey, around 1/10 of the previous number participate. His watchers still watch him and be enteri, but they learn their lesson. So should you. In the end Vtubers are just human, and humanity are flawed

I'm not a weeb, I've never heard of any of the 'anitubers' you people seeth over. I don't watch anime. I came at vtubers from an entirely different direction and the numbers prove a lot of people did. This is just your /jp/-ass projecting your own interests into an opnion that you think has experience and therefore knowledge behind it. But it has neither.

That being said your conclusions are still right. EN vtubers have conclusively proven to not be able to internalise a mindset of achievement and pursuit. They all regress to the mean eventually and watching each Myth member fall one by one has been fascinating if unfortunately depressing. Thank God for Jp branch.

This is at best tangentially related to vtubers. You could replace it with just about anything else where people in a parasocial relationship were exploited by the subject of that delusion.

Do people still watch anime? I stopped watching anime in like 2016. It's too much of a waste of time and current animes are mostly trash and the animation too. Each episode are like 20-25 minutes. In that amount of time you could read like 10 chapters of the manga and it usually comes with the benefit of superior art and less censorship.

I only watch original shows these days. I'm so done with adaptations that only get a one season or two.

Another thing is that after watching anime/reading manga for so long, most series have just become a bunch of tropes to me. Characters, jokes, plots.. They are all the same in the end.

Anime is trash. It’s an expensive time waster hobby that nobody gets anything out of it except for the chance to not think about how much they suck in social situations or their life is going nowhere. Read a book. Or at least the manga man, it’s good for your brain.

the tl:dr I think is: Parasocial relationships are a scam, influencers are not your friends, here is an example about anitubers.
I think this is a kuso thread and it would have more value if OP had spin it around to say something more akin to: "This is why Mori's friends are bad and should be kept away from Hololive"

I stopped years ago, not as a hard break decision, I simply found myself caring less and less to keep up with the current seasons and other interests felt more meaningful.
When you're still young and encounter anime for the first time, you have dozens (or hundreds depending on your standards) high quality shows from the last 4 decades to binge on. But after you've gone through all the classics, and the disillusionment "so.. what now?" -> boring seasonal shit sets in, people (unless you built your whole personal identity trait around "liking anime") naturally tend to fall off.

I agree with your title and the first two sentences, but I don't care about the rest. If people want to invest themselves and even throws money at the people behind the 2d avatar, let them be. Idolizing someone and then being hurt later is a natural process. When they get older and get more experience, they will realize that being neutral about anything is the best option.

I feel the same way, especially in the late 2010s when it just became shounen shit that wasn't Naruto to try and fill the Naruto gap and if you didn't like any cliche shounen garbage thrown your way you weren't "a true western anime fan"
I just became tired of the same garbage mecha attempts to be the next gundam, the same romance baiting garbage that pulls the rug out from under you, the same generic harem trash that's an ad for a mediocre manga that makes nobody happy, the same overly cliche super power level shounen shit, the list goes on.
Every once in a while there is a true diamond in the rough that pops out but I got tired of waiting for the next one especially when those only get 1 cour or never renewed after their initial success cause LOL GO READ THE LNs LOSER

They're fucking idols. You're SUPPOSED to idolize them. If they can't do their job properly that's not my fault.
> When they get older and get more experience, they will realize that being neutral about anything is the best option
Absolutely not. You're a mindbroken irony-poisoned zoomer retard who can't imagine having genuine passion for anything because if you did maybe your fellow zoomers will make fun of you.
