That thread had its own sets of problems though, there just isn't the fanbase overlap with those three that gokisei have so it was more of a marriage of convenience since Watame and Flare threads couldn't survive anymore and sheep isn't really that close with her genmates now Coco is gone. It feels like there's less discussion in there about each of them as there was in the separate threads, I guess it doesn't feel as private as it was before so people are more hesitant to post

a merger isn't a bad idea in theory because generation 5 is probably the most closely bonded of all of hololive's generations. in practice the only problems are that the Nene husbands have a shitposter problem that ruins combined threads too, and every member of 5th gen is strong enough to have their own active general under normal circumstances (no shitposters in the threads and no shitposters on the board making shitty threads in the catalog that push the real threads off into the archive) in my opinion.

I can see that. These mergers always erode thread culture somewhat. Old /lamy/ also felt different from /lamy/ in this thread. The bakatare merger is also kind of kneecapped by the fact that /fbk/ is strong enough to survive by itself, so the strongest thread isn't even really backing up bakatare with its full attention.
Regardless, I don't recall any of the preceding generals which got merged being as trash as /nene/ has become, so it's no surprise that, despite the flaws, their merger would result in something more palatable than the recent mess.
