Because vtubing as a fad is already in its death throes. Everyone who missed the beginning to 2020 actually missed out on the best of times. Since then, there's been a rush to flood the market with quantity over quality. The products are all incredibly samey, uninspired, and lacking the proper funding to set any one apart from the rest. Vtubers are a dime a dozen now just like streamers, except the format's limitations require significant capital and resources in order to be truly competitive with 3D streamers.

Not only that, but because the market is flooded with opportunists who are only in it for the money rather than actually being otaku and liking Japanese style vtubing, that only makes it harder to find earnest chubas actually worth anything at all.

A lack of gatekeeping sucked all the heart and soul out of Vtubers, and now it's seen as nothing more than a cynical grift. Truly, otaku hobbies are better off never being cooped by normalfags. This is the truth. That's why nobodyvs excited for Sony's new toys. There's already so many just like them, we really didn't need more.

most people who're into vtubers at this point already have an oshi (or group) they're dedicating all their time and attention to, so it's going to be a lot harder to get people to randomly watch completely unknown talents, no matter how cute they are or how much money there is to pour into their marketing. best bet is getting people who're new to the genre but interested, which is a pool that's getting smaller and smaller as the genre becomes mainstream in japan.
