It's hard to tell if Fubuki's wins are legit skill or flukes. She rarely streams the game (which means its hard to gauge how well she does nowadays) and there's no POV footage from her for previous tournaments. Going by what she has posted she's really good at turns with Tanuki Mario but still has a tendency to frequently lose due to her driving herself off the track like Miko. I'd put Fubuki at OK tier because she drives really well but she keeps driving falling over even in the most easiest of tracks.

Like every game with RNG, there are ways to still place consistently in the top 3. First it's a racing game, so you need muscle memory and training to not drive into a wall (like half the Holo)
At high level, it's about map knowledge, decision making (should I take the shortcut), when to push for first and when to slow down and focus on coins/items, how good you are at taking sharp turns...etc

I never see it mentioned anywhere but a big part of creating a sense of speed is keeping the racetrack cramped, not having long straights, and having a lot of alternating patterns and decorations. So I was mainly focused on EN/ID and here are my observations.

- Ina performed worse than expected but still played pretty well. She should be able to advance in Group D.

- IRyS performed above expectations but was still inconsistent. She took a bunch of top 3 positions but also took a bunch of bottom 3 positions. If luck is on her side she should be able to advance in Group A.

- Reine and Bae seem pretty hopeless although it was Kino watching Bae having a mental breakdown during the last race talking about how trash she is, lol.

After watching this though I think Gura is EN's best chance. She is stuck in a very tough group but since the top 3 can advance I think she can do it. Suisei is still very very strong but based on her practice sessions I don't see anybody else I can 100% say are stronger than her. Aqua probably hasn't played in forever and doesn't even really play games anymore so who knows how rusty she is going to be. Towa didn't perform that well in the collab we just watched. Pekora is ok but nothing spectacular. Will be very entertaining to watch either way.

CTR is a game that favors groups of skilled players, so it gets boring when there are obvious skill gaps since the catch up items aren't as helpful as in MK. But it's the most intense and chaotic when everyone is equally competent.

CTR's turbo system is very different from MK so there's nowhere near as much clustering. CTR has drift turbos but you can actually use drift turbos to build up an invisible charge that will maintain the extra speed you get from driving over a turbo pad like the ones MK has. So you can maintain turbo speed indefinitely, and some tracks have a second tier of turbo pad that makes you go fast as fuck and you can hold that indefinitely too. If you fall behind you fucking fall behind. There's an item that's pretty much the same as the thunder in MK, and a blue shell equivalent that has a bigger hitbox but you can actually outrun it with the maximum turbo level (unless that was patched).

tl;dr catching up in CTR is way harder.

The worst place to be in MK is 2nd. You're constantly getting ass rammed by red shells but you're not far back enough to start getting good items. In first you only have to worry about reds and blues (with the blues taking out a bunch of people on the way anyways). Thus in any "normal" match whoever can secure a decent 1st will stay there and increase the gap simply because 2nd never gets a chance to close it.

Because it's usually a shit strat, It was much stronger in 7 because the blue shell was comparatively stronger and the timing was easier. In 8 you have to consider not just the time lost from falling but also the time lost by driving sub-optimally and falling off the edge, so it's rare to be in a situation where it works in your favor (and you still have to time it right)
