Attention all Vtubers! This is your new manager speaking!
Throw away all pride. Throw away all pride and just pander. Pander to the lowest common denominator. Rebrand if you have to. That is my advice. Change colors, yeah, just change colors. Just throw away your pride and change your colors.

Reminder that everyone was right nearly a year ago to, for the most part, completely abandon YouTube as a streaming platform, and that the cope from a few months back where people were trying to insist they would improve and be "better than Twitch soon" due to some vague empty promises was completely delusional.

This is one of the reasons most of the small companies like Phase Connect, Cyberlive and Tsunderia will likely fail in the next few years, because they squander the prime years of publicity for their company on a platform that hates them and will continue to fuck them over at every turn.

Part of me is relieved. I want what's best for my oshi, and if YouTube did ever end up the better platform for streaming then another move BACK to that goddamn place would be bothersome. Can't say I'm surprised either. You don't just suddenly stop being unreliable just because you promise some things that sound nice on paper, especially when you have a record of not following up on those promises.

An even better platform would be nicer of course. I don't care about being loyal to twitch or YouTube. Only to my oshi and the other chuubas I am rooting for.

A fully cut and layered model takes maybe a month depending on the artist. Rigging also takes about a month depending on the rigger. Unless it's something ridic like Iron Vertex with an extra week of QA it shouldn't take you more than 3 months to get a completed model.

That's what I've tended to see, but the decent riggers and artists have a queue. So you might be waiting a month to get to the front of the model queue, then a month to get it, then you're waiting for the rigger (they won't start until it's done, some won't even add you to the list until you have the finished layers, because it gets complicated).

But I'm also artistically challenged. I figured if I can get a handle on vroid, then I can at least use booth to update/change/seasonal my model as needed, rather than paying someone else. It won't be perfect, but it'll be able to improve with me.

Riggers, yes. Artists, not so much. Vtubing is still surprisingly pretty new and not that well known by artists. I was only the second Live2D model that my art mama drew. There are still plenty of very talented and highly skilled artists who'd be capable of drawing a layered model. It'll cost more than their usual illustrations but in my experience it's something many of them can pick up pretty easily.

Riggers are another issue but you can generally take the time between commissioning an artist and streaming a bit as a png to find a good rigger.

The only difference between Youtube and Twitch as far as the average streamer goes is how convenient it is to rewind and VODs. Aside from that, Twitch is miles better for the streamer to be stream on. Youtube is great for archiving, highlights, clips, etc but there's next to no reason to stream there. Discovery isn't great on Twitch by any means but no one is even looking for live Youtube streamers to begin with, Twitch is only marginally better at being found while live because it has a Vtuber tag, but it's still a leg up.

i'm no master editor but... do you realize how long that takes? you're looking at a minimum of ~1 hour of work per 15 mintues of VOD to edit down the whole thing. when I edit clip comps the majority of my time spent is always scrubbing the VOD, and I'm skipping over/chopping out large portions that don't really matter to the narrative of the edit. editing something like Markiplier or Pewdiepie is even longer than what you're suggesting because you have to actually establish a narrative and edit to maintain that, over an hour+ long video. there's a reason they pay hundreds of dollars per video for the editing.

A 2 hour vod is best cut into 10 minutes of content at best. Most people aren't interested in watching a 2 hour video to begin with, if they were they'd watch your live or watch the VOD.

Another thing to take note is that if you (not specifically you just anyone) are streaming excessively, there's a lot of times when those streams are honestly just better spent editing videos or at least practicing. Streaming 5+ times a week is silly when it's cutting into time to do other work for your stream that actually helps with growth, as retarded as that sounds. Obviously you need to stream to have content to edit, but there's such a thing as streaming too much when you don't have an hired editor.

>adding text takes long
use presets. all editors do. save it, bind to a key combination, easy. check finzar's videos on YT for more information.
Also, you don't have to add text to a VOD, that is actually insane.

Another fun fact, you don't need to watch the stream at X1 speed. That's not something editors do either unless you really think people's editors are there watching 17 hour XQC VODs. if you're starting out as a chuuba and trying to grow, making low effort meme posts is better than trying to learn how to edit videos. you're practicing to be a streamer not a clipper channel. so focus on the shit that matters.

Oh is this Rebel? Lmao explains a few things. Was sitting here wondering why someone would shill highlight videos but also advocate for ignoring context in the trimming process (sometimes dead air is played for effect or adds to the moment). Most /here/ chuubas are not NEETs who watch other people make content all day long, surprising as that is. Most content creators have editors for the compilation clips because get this, they don't have the time to actually do it themselves. I often make subtitled clips for my stream, post them on social media, YT, etc. I also pre-record small bits and skits off stream and show them off live then upload to YT after. So I do pay some attention to the non live aspect of my streams and I want to expand on that but trimming down hours worth of vods for highlights and compilations would be too time consuming. I'm not about to quit my full time job or hire an editor for my 5view stream.

Not rebel, but the small ones do not, people like Randon or Kabhaal when they were starting out (and I think Kabhaal still does) or even Chibidoki's earlier Youtube vids before she blew up were edited by the streamer. The only people with personal editors are bigger people who make enough from streaming (or enough to supplement their hobby) to pay someone else to do it. You'd be surprised by how much time some of the harder working streamers put in working on things like that.

I don't think everyone can just drop their entire life to edit down some video of them playing Dark Souls, but obviously if you can't then this advice isn't really aimed at you anyway. It's not something everyone has to do, just people who want to have a better variety of content.

Props to them honestly, and yeah I think my initial abrasiveness comes from the discussion up above "just look how Markiplier and PewDiePie do 15-20m highlight videos, it's easy" (they do it by paying editors since they don't have the time to do it themselves). When it comes to editing in general, I think it's a good skill to have and it's something I try to do consistently but the longer form highlights requires scraping through hours of footage in a way that doesn't lose all context when put together. That is too time consuming for me. I had a project in mind similar to this exact thing actually but the prospect of combing through 12+ hours of footage just for one video is really daunting and I've had to put it on the backburner and only come to it if I think I can do it later.

Yeah I'll admit whoever gave that advice was retarded. My suggestion (and how I do it) is to do x2 speed when rewatching the VOD and just leaving notes for specific sections you think are good then just going back to the actual editing as you have time, you can even release it in multiple parts instead of a 1 or multi-hour VOD since you don't really have the same track record as larger creators who are able to get away with extremely long, edited down videos.

Yes, that's why the category has been seeing tens of thousands more views than it normally has. Because all the big streamers gave it up. Absolutely.
