Looking over today's numbers the cull really seems unpredictable. Some people are getting numbers really similar to what they were getting pre-cull while others have literally half or less than what you'd expect, and I can't find a single pattern on who gets susan'd and who doesn't. The majority seems to have taken a sizeable hit, but I don't think it's on a per-channel basis whether you get culled or not. Koyori was getting fairly normal pre-cull numbers for her Mario Kart stream today, but her NY outfit was hit just like everybody else's. Watame's daily Mario Kart practice clearly had a 50% drop in viewership overnight, but that other game she was doing a series of streams over didn't seem to be affected. Shit makes no sense.

The entire point of Reddit as a platform is to pass around information easily like this to a more casual segment of the audience. It's the same reason a clip that makes it into the top posts of a day gets significantly more traction and later fanart depictions.

VODs do get culled, but we're talking about like 20k-30k for regular streams or 100-200k for big streams.

For example, NJU got culled from 2.7 mil to 2.6 mil now and all the costume reveals today got 20k culled.

Looking at graphs, I'm guessing that it's possible that the drops in numbers happened because YT viewers validation servers, for some reasons, are taking longer than usual, or they changed their validation process.
So far, the drops seem to be rather inconsistent between streams. Even from the same streamer, some streams are more (or less affected) than the other. I'm also a bit curious about HoloX's outfit reveal streams earlier: even though those streams were indeed short, the drop wasn't really that severe in scale either (compared to other Holo's outfit streams).
I wonder if they have changed so that you are only counted as a viewer if you actively sit in front and watch the stream for a certain amount of time (having the stream on the focused tab and watching it instead of just listening to it for 30s / 1' / 2' or so, if you leave the stream tab, you will have to watch it for a while again before they register you as +1 CCV). In that case, streams that people are more inclined to watch (again, instead of listening to) should be less affected, while those that people switch back and forth (not viewing multiple YT tabs, but just between Youtube and other tabs - 4ch, Twitter, Reddit, GMail, work, whatever) would see more noticeable drops

Remember, YouTube operates based on "ad impressions" for free users and "watch time" for YT Premium, so they want to make sure that people aren't gaming the system.

Let's assume that El Goog isn't malicious and is interested in truly combat botting due to retarded campaigns by Kpop stans and T-Series vs Pewdiepie. YouTube dislikes those because they mess with the algorithm in ways the impact their income negatively (ads get more expensive, but because of adblockers and unpredictable user behavior, partners doubt YouTube's advertising reach/quality). So they try to make sure that users are behaving like users and not like "drones".

The CCV is a worthless metric to them in the first place. They don't pay you based on how many people are watching you live, but by who triggers ad impressions if you're a free user, and by watch time if you're a premium junkie. The only people that use CCV for payouts are sponsors, who can just as easily substitute it for "watch time", a metric that YouTube does track and is available to content creators, so they can negotiate based on that plus VOD views for good measure. So if you're a free user that generates no ad impressions, you may as well not exist to them and thus be flagged as a bot.

But again, the company isn't being malicious and know that if they wipe all "adblocked" VOD views from the meter it will give the impression that people don't watch YT videos, so they keep a number of those "for show" and try to find the real botters. This is where the behavior based tracking theory from another anon comes into play. Essentially, rather than target channels for suspected bot behavior, YT engineers (correctly) assume that the problem is the users, so they will target them for flagging. They will look at how users behave when browsing YT and how they interact with its various features, channels, videos and so forth. The AI will then try its best to parse who may be legitimately browsing as a single user and who may be illegitimately browsing as part of a view farm.

This is where the problems come: users are unpredictable and they will do fuck all to make it easy for you to trust their legitimacy, so you end up with half-assed solutions like tabbing in, idle timeouts, video interactions like comments/chats, SC, memberships that sometimes still end up flagged and culled. Yes, even premium users will get culled from the CCV... because the CCV doesn't matter to YT at all.

Hololive on Web Search has been pretty steady across the years worldwide. However, Hololive on YouTube Search has been inclining and is definitely better than it was in 2021.

Nijisanji also sees a nice little bump up in Web Search at the very end of this year, even though it's been relatively consistent across 2020/21. Probably the new Male EN gen?

Also pic rel, pretty surprised at how close Nijisanji and Vshojo are in terms of search interest. I excepted Vshojo to be a distant third to Hololive & Nijisanji, the two I thought would be closer.

To be honest, I'm not sure why people are complaining so much. Youtube CCV has been fucked since before this thread existed and the numbers haven't been all that reliable for a long time. That hasn't stopped us shitposting about it before. Just remember Hololive Sportsfes 2021 reached similar vod views in 2 hours as 2020 in a year despite CCV being lower:

Nah, it's unlikely that that would be the case even without Gen 6. Hololive made ~158 million JPY than Niji in Dec. Gen 6 altogether made "only" ~96 million JPY in SC.

Yes, the secret is also that every big niche on YT is driven the same way, to incline follow trends and leech so that the same audience as everyone else in your niche also watches you. Hololive is big enough that they can box push other members, but that's also why holo-adjacent vtubers like holo moms and Uto work, while other indies like small corpos languish in the dust. But there are many other such groups on YT, anitubers, Dream minecraft, everything big enough to have a community is an example of this.
What makes it so obvious on Twitch is there are only a handful of cliques big enough. There's Mizkif / xQc / LSF meta, and there's OTV, and that's about it.

I'm going through the old thread that happened while I was asleep and I wanted to address something about Mio's cull in 2020 and the things she streamed. Mio's actually a great example because she streamed the same game in both November and December, Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin. In November the streams ranged from 8-13k, with one of them going up to a peak of 17k. Meanwhile in December, her Sakuna streams reached peaks between 3-5k. December is usually a buff month for Mio in general because that's her debut anniversary and she did the Christmas Karaoke Relay.
