Before EN, she used to be one of the most viewed holos, though i'm not sure if this is correlated. I also don't feel like APEX is one of the reasons, other girls mostly stream APEX with plenty of viewers. Don't believe like it's a lack of collabs either or whatever argument about a menhera isolating herself. There are some anons that'll say she doesn't jump into trends very easily, but I don't know, it doesn't seem enough to explain. If everything you said is true, then why it took so long for people to see it?

Used to watch her a lot, but not anymore and I don't even know exactly why. Is there something you see that most anons don't that would explain the situation?

Long-ass blogpost coming, but I think I have a good idea of as to why, been a Matsurisu for a long while now and I have a gist of what the numbers have been like and what caused them to change (I don't really focus on them bc I don't really care but I have a general idea)

Her old gachikois got really fed up with Apex, and she lost a pretty big chunk there. It also explains why Matsuri gets the biggest Apex debuff of all holos. Especially combined with every now and then joining tournaments, which is very boring for some people to watch, so she gets even less than usual
Schizo/narrativeposting might have also affected it but I don't think there's enough people lurking in 4chan or 5ch to contribute a major loss in viewers, but obviously some potential viewers are lost there
Collabing with males is a no-no for some idolfags, mostly jp ones
Matsuri doesn't pander that much to EOPs so that might have something to do with it. Also she's been very laid back for the last year and hasn't done that much of her "crazy pervert loli lover girl" stuff she used to do a bit more back in the day, which obviously gathered a lot of attention. Of course she still does that in collabs sometimes, but not that often I feel like.

Also keep in mind that back when Matsuri was one of the most viewed holos, Hololive's viewership and fandom was much smaller compared to now. The 10k's and 20k's you see big hitters pulling today aren't the everyday numbers you saw back in the day. Hololive simply grew really really big and fresh generations have a much bigger chance to grab new audiences than an old talent who's been around for a long time (in general Matsuri has just been chilling for a long while, not really any huge projects that gather a lot of attention/new fans)

Also most viral holo clips aren't of Matsuri anymore, bandaids already went by. These days entry level holos are probably people like Senchou, Koro-san, Pekora or most of ENs. I think it's normal for an entertainer to have their "golden age" where some viral clip gets them a lot of attention for some months and then it fades slowly away. Like with holos you had bandaids back in the day, holo newcomers start watching Matsuri, they start watching other ones and maybe find another holo they like more. Her views get more steady and then another viral clip from another holo starts gathering a shitload of holo newcomers and they start their holo viewing with that holo... etc etc

One last thing is that Matsuri's views seem to dip tournament arcs and a couple of weeks post-tournament. Takes apex haters a couple of weeks to realize she's not playing everyday. Then she starts getting fairly good viewers again (depending on what she does ofc) utawakus usually get very solid views, for example. Then they dip again if another tournament arc starts lol
Personally I'm actually pretty happy Matsuri isn't the "big holo" anymore. The chat experience is very comfy and little to no EOPs spamming shit.

I would hesitate to say she doesn't tilt anymore until the next tournament at least, but for the recent one she kept generally calm throughout the whole thing. Even when she's the last man standing and all. Except for her screams of joy when she got champion in the 4th match.

She got a lot more sanitized, doesn't do cool new things like she used to. "Loose cannon character" works when she was 18, but now she's pushing 23, so that bit of youthful charm is kinda lost. Also, a significant portion of her viewership was Chinese, and unlike Aqua, Matsuri was never able to recover fully from the Bilibili split. My brother is encountering cheaters at about the same rate as Matsuri and is constantly telling me how much of a problem it is, but meanwhile when I play I don't feel like I notice very much. Apex debuff is absolutely a part of it but it's probably not the biggest part. I think her viewer decline is mostly due to natural decay, and the real issue is the lack of expansion. She has no consistent and dedicated clippers - I actually have no problem with Lyger, but he doesn't put up enough to fill that role. With no constant exposure, she needs to have big moments - the kind that general/variety clippers go for - if she wants to grow. I talk about this mostly from an EOP perspective, as my Japanese is still shit tier, but as far as I can tell she also lacks circulation in JP content.

She also doesn't play into any major memes or get a buzz in the community - in the past her perversion, love of lolis, bandaid antics, etc, would propel her to popularity, but without them she no longer has anything viral to attract new viewers. All of the popular girls have a "thing" to market - a gimmick or two that draws in variety clippers, and that fans fixate on. Say what you want about how repetitive hololive memes can get, and I agree that it reaches cancerous levels at times, but the fact is that it works. Whether it's unbreakable pairings, absurd skill in a specific game, a particular character archetype, a strange target demographic, or just general silliness, other girls are more palatable to the kind of fan who wants something simple and easy to digest. Matsuri isn't that in the slightest. Her strength has always been that she's very genuine and earnest - very open about who she is and how she feels - but this is a double edged sword, because people want something more reliable than that. She's not going to talk about lolis every stream. She won't spend all day every day flirting. She won't give the same experience every stream. So she gets overtaken by people who do.

On top of this, any people who followed her looking for just "crazy lolicon girl" likely have left her, while at the same time people who want to avoid that type of thing still avoid her, resulting in a double loss. I doubt the loss due to prudes is that huge though, or else she wouldn't be the only one facing it. Unless of course those people are just a bunch of hypocrites who only avoid her because she's easier to denounce.

In the end, I don't want her to change. I mean, I guess I wish she's collab a bit more often, because I love her chemistry with many members even more than I do her solo stuff - so I can't say I don't think she could improve quite a bit herself. But I also respect her for not being something she isn't. It's quite the dilemma though, because I want her to be successful, so I almost wish she would pander a bit, if only to get her back on the radar for clippers. I guess the gist of this is fuck everyone else, they have shit taste and need to respect my oshi more.

Just speaking from my history of watching Matsuri, putting the usual 800 – 1000 listeners aside, the rest just comes and goes.

The introduction of EN Holos doesn’t really affect her much, but she had never been on the spotlight aside from some 'used to be' famous clips. Most of the attention went into 3rd gens, notably starting last April.

Matsuri does not jump into trends. She’s more of the type to ‘stick’ with what she’s capable of and does not seem to be the type that would challenge herself.
Aside from recent random clips, she is not into overseas meme like what FBK did. Also, English muzzu so she gave up there.

Content wise, there were not much content to begin with. Cover’s incompetence on titles & copyright aside, she does not dab onto games, APEX excepted. She does takes recommendation, but the enthusiasm is not always there.

Karaoke is quite limited as she is comfortable with singing what she is confident with, hence the setlist are 90% same most time. She does serious practice when she wishes to, however. That being said, her pace compared to other Holos are quite behind.

Most of her stream, unless it is APEX is ‘fested with Zatsudan. For listeners that can’t understand her, it’s literally not a charm-point… noting that Zatusdan is her forte.

As for numbers if that ever matters, her addiction with APEX from May to August last year was the biggest turn-off. It literally leads to stuffs like:
>Long term fans recommending her to diversify content, because she just stream APEX nonstop;
>CN/TW viewers complaining about lack of bilibili content, literally replaced by APEX time;
>Matsuri keeping her stream shorts under the pretence of being unwell or having something to do, but end up doing APEX for hours, which pissed some of her fans

APEX did bring her new viewers (and revenue thanks to APEX Gacha), but these viewers are more of one/two-stands viewers rather than long-term fans.

A lot of Matsuri’s viewer was CN/TW based, so the whole Haato-Coco-TW-CN drama literally reduced her viewers.
With her content staying as is, it’s pretty much going stagnant. People comes in = people goes to another Vtuber.

As for Matsuri being Menhera, she is probably Menhera. The whole Menhera situation is just overexaggerated so I wouldn’t buy too much in it.

Personally, I am fine with Matsuri as is and love her as much as I can. If I am not fine with APEX, I would simply not watch it.

I do wish for her to put a bit more effort on stream content though. Her confirming no plan/project on doing Original song is a big bummer, considering she never had one from her end. MelissaP did one for her, but nothing ever came from her end.

Well, judging by the titles you can freely fuck around in yomanai, while in the main game I guess you're supposed to actually read the air and play the situations correctly (I don't know the mechanics of the game though so can't say for sure, but I'm guessing you get points or unlock shit for playing the game "right")
Though it doesn't really make a difference because Matsuri kept fucking around in the main kuuki yomi as well lol

desu it seems like a game that could be really boring depending on who's playing it.
But for Matsuri the game really really really suits her, these kinds of games really bring out the best of her humor and commentary imo. It's just so cute, funny and entertaining. It's like how she's perfect with muting her BGM when she cracks a joke or something, her timing is just great. I feel games like these fit her "playstyle" in that sense. I can't really describe it properly but today's stream had the same energy and entertainment value as the "work game" she played a while back (forgot the name but the top-down one where you work in some offices and can break shit and fool around)
