The tournament that was on today with a lot of vtubers playing with pros peaked at around 220k viewers on the main stream and Kuzuha had around 65k on his at some points. So yeah I think its a pretty popular game.

Technically, everyone has to claim a permissions license to stream or do a LP of a game. Some devs/publishers post a general license somewhere on their website, others (mostly western-based) just look the other way. Streaming/LPs isn't covered under fair use in any country that has fair use exceptions in their IP laws.

Yes, you have to get a license if you want to be protected from them suing you for copyright infringement. If you don't there is always a risk that they will sue you (ignoring statute of limitations). There are some game's whose EULA does actually give you permission to stream / make videos of the game such as Minecraft or games from Valve, but those games do come with limitations in how you can monetize those videos. Some companies like Nintendo do not get you a license, but write a blog post in what type of videos they won't send take down requests or create lawsuits for. This is not any type of legal contract and they can still sue you whenever for infringing their copyright.

Usually the risk of actually being sued is pretty low though which is why you see so many people doing it.

Out of curiosity, how many of the people who hate Apex have actually played with a pre-made squad? I can understand disliking solo queue pairing people up with shitty teammates and I can also understand why people would dislike watching Apex (especially ranked with someone like Aqua, who rats for placement 75% of the time). But if you're not complete shit at shooters and have a few friends to play with, the game itself is pretty fun.

Japanese are playing Apex instead of splatoon, not CoD or Valorant. Apex is similar to nintendo games in being particular about sound effects, character settings and grafic designs though the game system is a simple battleroyale.

The format is pretty good for streaming, with CS or TF2 you are locked into rounds, can have up to 16 other people screeching on their mics and no downtime to interact with your audience.

And honestly, Apex feels really good to play, it's not quite mobile as Titanfall but it's waaaay bette feeling than PubG and more forgiving in fights. In PubG is generally feel like I die like a bitch to bullshit half the time.

From what little I played of PUBG, one of my biggest issues is the with it was how open and empty the map feels. Apex's map has a lot of smaller spots that feel like they could be maps on their own in another game

I asked this question too and since then I have learned more about the game.

- Great futuristic aesthetics. More appeal than PUBG, but not as cartoony as Fortnite. It's the Titanfall universe which is cool.
- A perfect mix of mobility and tactics. The time to kill sits comfortably between instadeath games like CSGO, and movement-focused shooters like Quake. You can use movement to bewilder foes in a close gunfight, yet it's not so much movement that positional strategies are useless.
- Free.
- The guns feel distinct yet familiar, and enjoyable to use. The sounds and animations do help a lot.
- Great map designs. There's no boring area (unlike PUBG), and always plenty of cover. The size is also just right, so that you can both enjoy great views, and end games shortly.
- Anime-like characters (Wraith even Naruto runs) with memorable personalities, and fight-changing abilities. No wonder the Japs like it.

I have played CSGO, Unreal Tournament, Titanfall etc. and I'd say Apex has landed itself in a Goldilocks zone. For Titanfall veterans, you can read why the game dev chose to moderate the movement options here

team fortress 2's gameplay sucked

aesthetics and characters were great but the game apparently didn't do enough to encourage teamwork, despite the presence of control points and carts, because the entire fucking thing was a team deathmatch shitshow anyway. the unbridled fucking chaos was fun for like 15 minutes at a time once a month, if that.

i bet organized premade tf2 matches are pretty good though. haven't played since MvM came out.

JPbros tend to like things that are very visually flashy (hence why SEED is their favorite Gundam AU) so it makes sense. Art style aside, the Apex characters have that same kind of flashiness you see in anime, and they honestly look more at home in more anime styled fanart or even the bordelands-esque cel-shaded season trailers than the in-game renderings

You dont know what the fuck you're talking about. Overwatch IS the casual TF2. Source engine has a lot of quirks AND TF2 in general is way more deep mechanically. You seem to have only played on casual servers where everybody's just conga dancing or fucking around. High level competitive gameplay really shows just how much depth there is. I miss the tf2central days
