Have you ever told your friends and/or family that you watch chuubas? What did they say? I’ve only ever told two of my cousins and they thought it was pretty cool.

>> No.15056273

My brother and I talk about chuubas here and there. He likes Snuffy though...

My brother loves chuubas, mainly watches hololive EN and vshojo, though. My mom things it's weird, but she really likes Mori's music.

I've been thinking about how to introduce my family to the concept of vtubing but my parents are like anti-weebs. The best approach I could think of would be showing them gura karaoke but they'd surely be confused by the anime girl avatar and the voice that's obviously put on for show.

I've nonchalantly dropped Hololive song recommendations to my sister but I doubt she's picked up on it.

My only friend hates anime that isn't normie tier so I haven't even bothered. I linked him Gura skyrim Vr because it's his favorite game but Im certain he just ignored it

I accidentally let it slip to my uncle. He at first thought I was watching a Japanese camwhore. I managed to downgrade it to titty streamer before giving up and asking him not to bring it up again.
My dad did once catch me watching Uto while helping me set up a ceiling fan in my new home and didn't say anything. He even stayed by share some beers while tenshi shot demons in the face because I forgot to turn off the TV.

Yes. I don't hide it from my friends, I don't have any reason to do so. I mean, they're normies so it's definitely worsened to a degree their perception of me but since it makes me happy they're cool with it.

My family has overheard my oshi from my room but they're literally fucking clueless as to what a vtuber is, so why would they care either?

No. I'm already approaching my mid 30's with nothing to show for it. I'm not so lacking in awareness that I'd bring up Hololive at Christmas dinner after my extended family inevitably asks me if I'm still in college and I have to come up with another excuse for the 5th or so year in a row as to why I haven't at least earned my associate degree yet.

I would tell them but so far there hasn't really been a reason to bring it up. Streamers aren't really something that comes up in casual conversation. But if it did come up I'd test the waters by seeing if they're familiar with streamers first and then explain the extra layer.

>> No.15060344

I have like 5 friends who are into vtubers that I talk to, though I'm definitely the one who's into it the most. I've also explained it to my 2 older sisters before (on separate occasions), and they seem to understand it or at least support it as a hobby.

My boomer father was discussing with my demented grandpa about regular streamers, "like Youtube, but people watch them Live and they send donations of 100 dollars and 500 dollars. Losers with no talent in life. And imagine the people who watch them. Playing videogames is not a talent, what can do they do besides that? If they lost their niche what would they be able to do? They'd be starving on the street" Roughly summarized. I didn't say a word but I couldn't even imagine what his reaction would be too find out about Vtubers. Also my brother keeps trying to mention Vtubers from time to time without hiding his power level and it's annoying because their names clearly aren't meant to be pronounced in our language so it sounds weird as fuck to discuss them.

Because you need people to be in joy ? I'm happy all alone anon

>> No.15065773

I sometimes share funny stories of vtubers with them, but I always just phrase it as Japanese streamers whilst giving no names. I don't bother trying to explain what the avatars are too deeply nor do I even mention their gender most of the time. I don't show them clips either. Getting too stuck on details with people who are barely grasping the concept of streamers to begin with seems like it'd be a mistake. Most recent example of this was me telling them about Miko not putting water in her humidifier. They found the story funny but they don't know her name, what she looks like and I believe they even assumed she is a man despite me never once saying so. They never ask for those kinds of details because it's irrelevant to the story being amusing.

I'm a NEET guy of my friend group. My friends love to hang out with me and check if everything is fine with me. I am completely honest with them so I told them about my vtuber addiction. They are fine with it but they get a little weirded out when I tell them I'll never touch 3D women again and that my 2D harem is all I need. I had relationships in the past and healthy sex life so I guess that is really baffling to them.

i'm in like my mid-30s now and so i've cycled through like half a dozen embarrassing hobbies/interests by this point and it always cycles out the same way among family/acquaintances: they tease you for a while or say that you're the "whatever" guy.
for "friends," assuming they even give a shit, it persists until you break ties with them or they break ties with you. with family they eventually forget between the time you lose interest and the next major life event that involves them in some way (ie. moving, death in the family, lose/change jobs, etc).

It's only annoying if he pronounces them wrong. The way you worded this line is highly suspect.

Also, this is such a boomer way to look at things. What makes them any different from actors, or sports players, or musicians, and so on? All people who make their living in the entertainment industry. I'll tell you what the difference is, the difference is that he doesn't like streamers so that means it doesn't count as "real" to him. Because he doesn't like it, they're "losers" even though they're providing a service of entertainment to thousands of people. It's just as valid as those other jobs. Now, you can get into a discussion about whether a job in the entertainment industry is less valid than a job in say, the construction industry, and there might be a point to be made there. But I guarantee most people who would complain about streamers would not be so quick to condemn other jobs in the entertainment industry.

That right there is the answer to why Gura's popularity keeps increasing. She's reached the point where she's so big that YouTube's algorithm is suggesting her to people who normally wouldn't be interested in anime, without any provocation. They like her because she's Gura, why wouldn't they, they recommend her to other people, and the cycle continues.
