Popular enough chink vtubers have their own generals (hakos/selen), while even some well known nips have merged generals due to a lack of sufficient interest in single chubas. There was also a Korean chuba group thread that got ignored and completely fell off. Popularity equates to thread livability, and no other slanty eyed rune-speaking nation is any better off.

It needs to be said that the non English speaking chubas from Niji and Hololive only really have threads because they're two of the most globally well known companies, while many nip agencies and chubas fall by the wayside. Cultural relevance in the western scene is the ultimate deciding factor, and china's isolationist interweb policies don't exactly help them integrate into global online culture.

That doesn't mean Taiwan or hong Kong have it any easier though, as the language barrier will always be the be all end all filter, and with Chinese it's the worst due to not having any sort of furigana style phonetic alphabet to even help ease people into their moon runes. Yes, I know Taiwan technically does, but it's so niche and never really mentioned in weeaboo circles that it might as well not exist compared to kana and hangul.

tldr blaming western nationalism or racism is a cope when in fact there's actually a number of EOP unfriendly factors at play restricting chinktubers' growth in the global vtubing market

At this point I'd just like to point out that nobody in this thread, myself included, seems to understand the nuance involved in the actual political goings on in China, or how the actions they've taken against video games, effeminate characters, and vtubing have affected their own weeb communities and native Chinese billibilli vtubers. That's usually what's missing from these discussions.

Without a complex analysis of the actual vtubing landscapes in the three main areas of China, it's hard to get beyond a surface level understanding of china's involvement in and effect on vtubing.

Also, apparently they have an autonomous korean zone as well. Not relevant to the current discussion, but it's just a piece of trivia to lampshade how basic and jingoistic conversations about China usually wind up, where spouting off talking points are used as a substitution for details and specifics based on a real genuine analysis of the complexities involved in any given issue.

tldr This entire thread is a rerun because over the entire span of the last year it seems nobody's actually learned a single thing about China. I haven't. Nobody else has. It has similar problems to Korea in terms of creating and exporting culture which leads people to actually learn about their country, although they've been making inroads into gaming and now anime as well. Regardless that lack of knowing much about China makes these threads a disappointingly unproductive exercise in virtue signaling rather than an opportunity to have a real discussion about foreign politics, economics and culture.

Korea has the advantage that they are a democratic country with relative freedom of speech and expression, which provides a talent pool that enables them to rival Japan in global cultural influence. No. Just...no. Korea doesn't have the cultural exports to match Japan when it comes to attracting young male incels. We were the early adopters back in the day. We were the ones who liked anime and vidya before it was cool. The reality of the cultural marketplace is that young men with free time and disposable income from their parents are the path to having a lasting subcultural presence in a country.
