They are an active detriment to the source material if the source is good. If we are watching something good then you better shut up.
If the movie/anime is garbage, the watchalong is a good experience since it's just an excuse to talk and have a common talking point
This doesn't applies IRL because if a girl invites you to watch a movie then she wants you to kiss her and put the moves on her. But since it's a stream it's a detriment to both the streamer and anyone who decides to watch along.
