Alright, I want to try kicking off the great /wg/ collaboration story and here’s how I think it could work.
First off any writeanon who is interested in participating can reply to me with a story they have written and can identify themselves by, preferably a google doc that they have access to. Although this will break anonymity a bit, it’ll help stop individual Anons from writing multiple chapters. I’ll probably post this at the start of every thread for a while to get as many people in on this as possible.
Once I have a list of every writeanon that is participating I’ll assign a chapter number to everyone. Each Anon will then wait for the chapter previous to theirs to be written and pick up where it left off like a baton pass, then once finished post their chapter to the thread in a separate document. As proof that it’s them posting the chapter and not some rando they should write their post number at the top of the story they identified themselves with and leave it up for a few hours so other anons can confirm it by looking at the published document.
After that it’s the next Anon’s turn and they can do the same thing and continue the story in another separate document. I’ll collect all the documents at the end and compile them. IMO each chapter should be 500-3k words and preferably completed within a few days. Obviously it’s going to be a complete shitshow as there’s no set storyline and each writeanon can take the story where they want, as well as completely different writing styles every chapter. But as long as there’s a reason for introducing/removing chuubas, changing the direction of the plot and each chapter isn’t a completely different story, I say it’s all good. Let's just have fun with it.
What do you guys think? Any questions? Suggestions? I think if we pull this off it could be pretty fucking kino.

How do we decide what prompt and general direction to take the story?

Perhaps we can compile some basic prompts to start, nothing too complex, then do a random draw to pick one.

Also you could also have a list of themes, like horror, comedy or action etc., that the prompt would have to follow. Could add some interesting flavor if you get some completely opposites between prompt and theme, but it would help multiple anons keep some level of cohesion to the story.

As a trial run I think it should be pretty freeform. The sheer disparity between writers we have means that excessive topic/genre control will smother your pool, especially at this early a stage. Let it be reasonably chaotic and more people will find it fun and join. If things get weird then it's just up to the skill of the next writer to bring it in.

I hate to be too much of a contrarian here but functionally, absurdity and ad libbing are what old quest threads thrived on. While I understand that longform writing isn't precisely the same thing, I think that overt gore/aristocrats trolling aren't strictly the issue here. Inevitably someone will take the story in an unexpected turn, and it will be someone's responsibility to steer it from that point, motivated or not. If someone kills off a character you really wanted to use, at random, you can't cry foul play and expect the project to thrive off that energy. People who come along to write will most likely be people who are interested in cohesion and consistency, but in any event, flexibility will always be what these anonymous collabs thrive off of.

Hmm, both sides are making pretty good points. The problem with guidelines is it'll be hard for everyone to agree upon what we want the story to be about, but then without them it might just become a story nobody wants anyway because of opposing ideals of different writers.
Personally I don't mind where the story goes, it becoming a clusterfuck could be part of its charm that perfectly encapsulates what /wg/ is. I don't think it needs to be a work of true literary art, since the idea of a massive collaboration fic is the selling point.
That's just my opinion, though. This is OUR story so I want everyone's input to reach a compromise.

What are people's general feelings about stories that include, in a supporting role, Hitomi Chris and Aloe? For Chris you're effectively making an OC, we know fuck all aside from a debut and some old rrats. So they're effectively an OC with a bit of history you can build off of. Honestly I'd just say use an OC since she'd have the baggage of being the gen 1's REDACTED; so unless you're making her a major part of the story due to incorporating that aspect it's probably better to just use an OC.
For Aloe, you can technically just crib characterization from her 'roommate' but again it feels like unless you are specifically incorporating aspects of her being the graduated one of gen 5; it feels kind of pointless due to the baggage... also still kind of feels like it's in bad taste but that's more of a personal opinion.

I agree with both your points, but I've a story planned that tunneled in on these two serving important roles plot-wise, while having their own little arcs. The story is one with several of the holo factions clashing and coming together, each having their own little arc, so Aloe and Chris would be more like part of an ensemble cast than the main focus.

For Chris, it's mostly just her and her effects on the plot that are mentioned, since she's not present in this setting. Rather she serve as a blank slate meant to reflect the many indies very few know about, not being part of some of the corpos.

Aloe has her own bit where after being physically separated (graduated), we learn more about her self-doubt and that would have inevitably posed some sort of problems had she continued. She's in a position where she's in a bit of a hugbox, where she at least has some support, but because of he reliance on it is not moving forward all that much. She then has an encounter with Botan (not the others cos plot reasons) where they lament on what Gen5 went on to do and how Aloe could have been a part of it, which Botan reaffirms is how everyone felt. Her arc ends with her finally moving on and realising how much she needs to work on herself going forward. Compared to Chris, Aloe's arc is maybe a somewhat optimistic side to those that had been close to being part of holo but now going on as indies.

So with that said, would this kind of story be in bad taste, or is there at least some wiggle room to make it into something good? I'm not including them to shit on them, and I feel like their graduated status is important to why it's them that plays their role in the story (although no longer there, played a part in shaping it somewhat).

My series takes place in the USA even though I'll probably never directly state it, even though I use JP chuubas for it. Just finished reading Holocalypse ch.6 and it was great as usual.
I really love Four's interactions with Suisei, I can't get enough of it, it's just so entertaining to read, I hope she sticks around the main cast.
