Guaranteed initial viewership. Starting off as an indie, breaking out of 2view hell could take you years. Or you need to aggressively market yourself to an almost annoying degree (and even then you might not catch on). By joining a small corp you're going to at least attract a solid initial viewer base right from debut.

And also training. Corp streamers don't just hit "go live" and debut. They do practice streams and get feedback and guidance from management until they're at least decent.

You can, of course, do everything a corp would do for you by yourself. You need both the time and money to do it though.

Not enough to live off of. It's a side gig. Going corpo nets you certain assets, hardware (device to capture for Live2D), promoting you so you can start out with a viewer base, and a support network to lift you up.

Most normal people can only keep plugging away with uploads/streaming for so long with single digit to no views.

If I would be able to commit enough I would love to join Tsunderia. I have years of music experience and have a decent enough art skills to able able to be a vtuber but I also work a full time "real" job to where I'd basically stream less often and Char or Urara. But Tsun has an amazing culture and they've been able to grow this internal network that feels like a close group of friends/family that I don't feel with other smaller agencies. Honestly I would love to be a part of their brand but I'm too busy being a normie to even apply. I love all of their talents and to be honest, they have people that Holo and Ninji would be lucky to have. I hope one day they're as big as them, because they deserve it.

I don't know how it is now but it definitely used to be the case, within some corps you'd see the same core group making up the bulk of active chatters for each talent, and you'd also get reasonable overlap between agencies.
I'm sure the effect would be much less pronounced now since most agencies have too many talents to be catching every stream. At this point there's also a broader group of viewers rather than gachis being overrepresented.
