Males will come, but chances are they will break the wave interval introduction that the last two waves exhibit. Why is this? We may not know. Either that how fast they pushed out wave three and how long they tried to get all four girls to a stable 1k viewers (which still hasn't happened, they fluctuate hard from 500~2k), or that it is taking them much longer to get through applicants because they know that there is a very good chance the males can fall flat on their face if they don't select well enough. While they have seen acceptance of males from collab partners (Niji ID/KR/JP, and various indies) they may want a sure shot to have a permanent male presence.

The difference being the level of freedom. Young men/boys want a friend who will do some crazy stuff, look at all the stuff male streamers say, do and get away with it. While Niji doesn't have holo levels of restrictions it certainly has more than your random guy who accidentally blew up. Why would this market care about some faggy looking anime dude, when there is a twitch ecosystem of big male streamers. Who can talk about drama, meet up irl, play whatever they want whenever and straight up just stream other people's videos and call it react content. They don't need to worry about any oh my company doesn't like your company, they can rock up on any stream if the other streamer lets them.

Vtubers blew up cause no matter how much anyone pretends it is some level of GFE. One that people tell themselves isn't really the same as a ethot cause reasons. That's a niche. Corporate Male vtubers can't compete at that, and aren't on an even footing with normal male streamers. So it is highly dependent on snagging absolute gems who aren't harmed by the restrictions.

He also showed that, apart from sexual misconduct, you can really say or do anything and come back. But once you're a corpo that is different, Pewdiepie did get dropped from big gigs yet landed on his feet. Partly cause he owned his channel and identity that many were still interested in. There are of course cleaner ones than him yet they also have a pretty fair amount of freedom. Including if they cosy up right getting to collab with the most unhinged streamers. Male vtubers will have to find a niche and you can't create one if you don't get really good talent.
