She's still working for the same company. upd8 was owned by Activ8. When upd8 folded, Activ8 did not, they just got rid of their unprofitable talent. Kizuna Ai - still property of Activ8 - was spun into her own company Kizuna AI Inc. However both Kizuna AI Inc. and the former upd8 are under the umbrella of Activ8.
Despite the rumors Kizuna Ai never got rid of the black company. The whole NFT idea was probably Activ8 being a retarded black company for the nth time.
At this point Activ8 has mismanaged the Kizuna Ai brand so badly, I just wish for her to reincarnate into something unrelated to that deplorable organization.

She honestly deserves to be shit on. Watch her earlier videos, you can feel the optimism and it felt like she had fun entertaining her audience. Now look at her current content. She feels like a product, hopping on TikTok trends, hiring a dancer to do motion capture kpop dance covers, not to mention getting bought out by China and the whole VA debacle. Kizuna Ai feels so forced on, you can hear it in her hysteric sounding laughter.

I will never deny the influence that Kizuna Ai had on establishing the VTubers into the industry that it is today. But she turned into a sellout, soulless, corporate boot licking abomination, and I hope the other VTuber companies are watching as a warning on what not to do.
