I think I get your misconception. The jump power doesn't grow smoothly. It's a discrete value. Jump IIRC has 6 levels of power. Most difficult jumps in the game are power 3 or 4 jumps that you sometimes need to do from a specific spot on a platform. These are easy both to undershoot and overshoot them. Pretty much every "nasty" jump falls into this category. So having any sort of indication of jump power would make the game as simple as remembering a sequence of numbers.

If you rewatch any VOD from final parts of main game or DLC, you can pretty much see what jump power is used, the difficulty comes from actually having muscle memory to get the right jump power. Mori is confident in hers for the most part but she is rightfully afraid in some places like a couple jumps in final tower or that shitty jump on highlighted platform in Hidden Kingdom where she keeps doing "coward jumps". What she's actually trying to do is to hit the lowest possible timing of next jump power while doing non-punishing underpowered jumps. You can also see that the base game doesn't really have that many hard jumps, a ton of them are either power 1-2 or maximum power that are easy once you realize what power you need. The biggest hurdle of DLC besides much more punishing falls is having several sections demanding multiple power 3-4 jumps in a row like Black Sanctum or that pink area above poison village.
