This trend of HoloEN losing viewers and paypiggies will continue until they change up their content.
It's not like NijiEN is even a threat to them but they offer something totally different that appeals to a more engaged and more loyal demographic.
I really think it's a mistake for Hololive to block them from collabing. Their own girls would benefit a lot from learning from NijiEN's style of content like having more game variety and more spontaneous collabs and networking outside of the company to bring in fresh new content.

Imagine how much more popular Ame would be if she actually networked with other FPS vtubers and tried to collab with Twitch streamers or big JP vtubers like Selen does. Or how much more lovable Mumei would be if she used her knowledge of animation and art to write and create funny skit videos like Rosemi instead of just acting retarded like she's heavily medicated all the time.

It's not a coincidence that the two HoloEN's who dominate superchats and streaming hours are the two who push management the hardest to break down dumb rules and network with other vtubers the most. In any sort of entertainment it really pays to have your ear close to the ground and pay attention to changes in the scene so you can adapt and improve your content, otherwise you'll be left behind. Girls like Gura may be natural entertainers but if their content gets too repetitive viewers will feel like they've seen it all and move on to something new.

This is something I find interesting. There are essentially no external threats to Hololive thanks to how the Youtube algorithm props them up. Unless the algorithm changes, Hololive will always remain dominant. You can't "kill" them; they can only fail of their own accord, and if Hololive falls, the western vtuber scene falls with them.

Hololive employs talent that see steady growth despite not putting out content for weeks, even months on end. This would be a death sentence in any other company, even Nijisanji livers stall and decline if they're absent for too long. Hololive is the first in the industry to hit the "too big to fail" mark, and could remain the only to do so.

HoloEN deciding to pretend that the rest of the EN vtuber space doesn't exist was both a curse and a blessing. The rest of the scene didn't quite get to ride HoloEN's massive late 2020 popularity wave, but it also meant that it could grow organically without them. All of the small startups, Nijisanji EN, and the twitch vtubers have audiences that are fairly well established now, independent of Hololive.
