Should update the "over 1 million" list then, since it's been a month.

In about 1 hour Gura will have 37 videos over 1 million views.
3 are songs (1 from the topic channel)
34 are full streams - by far the most streams over 1 million of any vtuber.
2nd is Pekora with 15
3rd is Kuzuha with 14

Noel's the only other one that reached 10 streams over 1 million, with another coming soon.

Yes, Those 2 and Kanata are way ahead in terms of songs
Also yes, Marine is among the solo accounts by far ahead in terms of shorts, 2nd only to the Hololive main.

I haven't finished the Niji/vspo/solo side, a few of them look competitive for songs and shorts especially.
Just Kuzuha, Maimoto and Niji main for streams though.

So, about the game, I saw someone saying Genshin was created from over $100M and production was from 2017 iirc. 3 years. Isn't it possible for Cover to do a smaller sized Genshin with smaller funds, let's say their $15M along with how much profit they made this year, with some connections from Square Enix or maybe Capcom? So, there are a few things that likely jacked up the price for GI
-Voice acting (from well known VAs)
-Visual assets
Of these, Cover can save on the first three due to well, having a roster of chubbas that can do the first 3. Yes of course you compensate them but the fact that they're already on payroll means you get to cut on costs. (GI music is damn good, but hiring a full team of musicians isn't cheap, especially if you want good ones)
It's not impossible to get a good product over 3 years of they invest a few mil over that period of time.
So, I won't say it's impossible, but it's going to be a hard road ahead.

In retrospect, a great number of things
Expanding too fast meant spreading out the audience instead of growing at a healthy rate.
Stopping expansion right when their competitors passed them to focus on single event 3D debuts didn't boost any of the active livers by itself.
A general lax attitude towards brand promotion on the side of management basically left it in the hands of the livers, who organized tournaments and events themselves. Staff just helping to fulfill those events instead of having a unified vision.
Complete short sightedness when it comes to foreign expansion. Though they handled the China situation really well at least.

Because JK Gumi, Roa, Toya, Elu, Gibara, etc were overworked with promotion and idol stuff.
Even the always streaming Lulu had to take 1 month break in late 2020 for concert preparations.

Nijisanji was very top heavy, their most marketable members getting all the gigs.
This allowed Nijimales to have more spotlight at least as Chronoir kept on streaming consistently.

His point was that Suisei was the bottom Holo for six or whatever months until she became a real Holo. That said, I'm pretty sure she streamed consistently during her time at INNK. The managerial neglect that caused that might have been a blessing in disguise in that respect.

Suisei is probably one of the clearest cut examples of the power of platform and a brand. You can see the free viewers when she joined INNK in May 2019, then in August a bump from being allowed to show off at a Holo Project Winter collab, then in November Mario Kart Tournament plus joining Hololive, then Holofes 1 in December and that karaoke collab in early January. But the real deal is her 3D debut in March, that was when all Hololive viewers were funneled to her channel. I kind of wonder if going up against Nijifes might have actually helped people check out what Hololive was doing at the same time, Toko (unsurprisingly) and Touya (a bit more surprisingly) were also tweeting about her instead of watching Nijifes.

Of course, all the eyes brought in by the platform would have been for naught had she not the ability to keep the viewers with streams.

Oh shit... So unbuffed Kuzuha can easily get mogged by any top 10 Holo. If APEX is truly dead and he can't find another buff game then it'll come down to He-Ayame with a fully charged rare stream and Lize to compete with the Holos and even then they'd barely be considered as high tier holos themselves.

It was a different time. While Suisei missed the really big boom, she was still early enough to debut in an era where you were guaranteed to have some viewers on your debut ready to shill you in the two or three threads everybody on the scene read if you were interesting enough to shill. Taking a quick look at her debut stream, she had 20 commenters before the same people plus others started spamming こんばんは and I can't be arsed to keep track of who's new and who posted twice, so she was never a literal 2view. Suisei actually got quite a bit of hate for selling out to the corporations back when she joined INNK, so some people may have liked the jank.

Yeah, as noted in the filename, he was lectured in the replies.

Get used to it, all of ID are basically together, regardless of company, and they consider the other branches that way too.
It's from personal preference that some of them don't end up collabing with more people.

>> No.13468486

That's the thing. I've encountered cometomos reminiscing about it here and there, but I've never really bothered to look up contemporary threads and or even to check if it was something that extended to her chat. But the timeframe would have been around whenever she announced her move to INNK and, I dunno, August-September 2019?

>> No.13468570

The only thing I can think of is the lack of talents serving as brand advocates inside the company itself. And even that's a flimsy guess since there were a couple of livers from Nijisanji who persuaded Meiro to rescind her graduation request before her menhera acted up again and fucked it all up. Maybe the whole Meiro-Roa debacle had more of an effect than we thought? Or maybe the livers themselves just don't really have as strong of a connection to the brand as Holos do theirs? Either way, that fat fuck Riku better figure something out because as late to the party as most companies are when it comes to recognizing trends, Hololive is starting to get recognized by the other brands now.

>> No.13468622

it is the poor mentality - now that you're rich, your poor friends want you to share it with all of them. And you quickly go back to being poor again.

>> No.13468703

Why is collabing with someone from Nijisanji so bad? JPs do it all the time. You're kinda acting like a JP nijinigger, they're obsessed with who is leaching off of who and trying to invent imaginary pecking orders that means isolating people they don't think are worthy of singing a song or collabing with someone. It feels very silly to hope in spite that adults pretending to be anime character fail for interacting.

>> No.13468840

NijiEN is a possible threat and it's not like me hating on the collab will cancel it lol.

HoloID is alright, i believe in rrat that they're the ones management use to show Hololive lets their talents collab with Outsiders.

Copyright and intellectual property is a bitch. Unless they get every contributor to sign their rights off to Cover (and artists aren't really inclined to do that) they would be 30 milliseconds away from the whole project to get Holobassed.

>> No.13470424

The problem isn't JUST that they have 2 many 2views, it's that their midcard is severely lacking. Nijisanji as they are now are like the current Lakers. They have an aging Lebron (Kuzuha), AD (Touya) and a couple has-beens that think it's still 2013. The rest is trash but it shouldn't completely destroy your roster if your other starters were actually good.

Hololive is the Jordan era Bulls. A clear top dog, but the 2nd options can carry the team even in the playoffs. They also have role players who have very strong specific skills who can pop off and take over a game. Their bench would start in most of the league

>> No.13471555

>JPs do it all the time
People who bring this up obviously don't realize anything about the implications of this collab between EN branches. HoloJP and NijiJP are very much on equal ground in Japan. Nobody is going to benefit that much from a collab so they can just do them and have fun.

For EN on the other hand. HoloEN is lightyears ahead of NijiEN in viewership, exposure, fame, fortune, etc. If NijiEN is to properly be viewed as competition then giving them any kind of exposure at all is one of the most short sighted and dumb things you can do. HoloEN stands to gain nothing from a collab with NijiEN and NijiEN stands to gain everything. That is not an equivalent relationship which means that no collab should happen.

>i mean, they're at least kind of close in the mid-upper clusters as far as raw numbers go
No they're not.

Here is a thought experiment, the same table but keeping only the Niji with their median over 5000, meaning the following 20 channels (plus the main)
>Kenmochi Toya
>Tsukino Mito
>Lize Helesta
>Ange Katrina
>Fuwa Minato
>Yashiro Kizuku
>Inui Toko
>Kagami Hayato
>Yuuki Chihiro
>Sasaki Saku
>Mayuzumi Kai
>Maimoto Keisuke
>Leos Vincent
>Ars Almal
>Lauren Iroas
>Ratna Petit
>Furen E Lustario

It may slightly improve the proportions (not significantly) but it robs them from the midtier and small tier than had their 3D debuts.

Even only counting the top 20 Nijis and the main channel they get absolutely dwarfed be it in raw or in percentage by Holos. That is one argument I would like to see put to bed once and for all.-

The main difference is that if one Holo decides to not stream, Holo will feel the loss of 3k viewers but Niji won't feel the 300 if they had the same situation

Niji strat is better in the long run since even the smallest livers can pick up the slack for talents who are on break or are busy with non streaming activities compared to Holo who is heavily affected numbers wise when at least ONE talent goes on break

>> No.13473219

If the top dogs of Niji decides to take a break, there numbers will suffer more than Holo will, because Hololive has a more even distribution, plus a fanbase that is willing to watch other talents.

The bottom line here is: it is not just the "dead weight" that is weighting down Nijisanji, the whole company is clearly laggnig their biggest competitor

>> No.13474847

>> No.13474952

Notice that this "top 20 + main" Nijisanji sample was chosen with a more explicit crtieria:
>livers with 5k or more median in the period

It would always lead to the obvious conclusion
>if you only leave the chuubas with a high median, their median will rise

>> No.13475063

It's the goto cope for some anon in this thread, along with the words of the CEO
>we don't want to forcefully acquire a fanbase
or something similar Riku said in an interview, taking a jab at Hololive viral growth
>we want to build a culture

Some anon came with this cope and it stuck as "slow and steady"

>> No.13475235

Riku was once asked in a serious interview about Hololive's meteoric rise and Nijisanji's future and he had to bullshit his way out of that. "Slow and steady" was what he came up with, saying Hololive's growth is not sustainable, but for obvious reasons that got picked up for shitposting.

When it comes to the yabs, its the type which is important not how big.Except for Mel, hololive yabs were external. China, Youtube, game permissions, janitors, antis were recognized as an external threat and the holos and their fandoms grew closer to protect each other. Nijisanji yabs tended to be internal. Chuuba vs chuuba or chuuba vs company, which splintered the fanbase. Sure, holos had spats with Cover but the fandom defaulted to the holo; nobody shat on a holo to simp for Cover. Festival’s public spats with other holos should have been more damaging but her menhera attacks are so well known that Matsurisus don’t go on a warpath and just apologize on her behalf.

Not paying for a lot of ads is cheating the system. Thus that's forcefully acquiring fans.

His bullshit reasoning it that, because of Hololive opening to the west, the home market could decrease if they're not pandered, while the west could also reject them sooner if not pandered. In some way, it was right in the west side, because the novelty kinda wore off but Hololive have such a grab in the market, it could also lead to another wave in popularity with one event or collaboration with others company.
Just take it as the CEO coping on Hololive sucess on just 2 years with little to none help while also having to say something to calm the investors.

I don’t watch enough Niji to know but Myth for sure has every tight bonds within their gen. I’d say everyone from Gen3/Gamers on has a strong gen identity and bond. There’s also pretty strong branch culture and company wide culture. Does niji hvw anything comparable? What’s the general sense over there? Would JP branch mega boosting Mel happen? Something like Holotalk? Impromptu Pekora/Sana/Bae collab? I honestly have no idea of what Niji culture is like.

>> No.13476272

I'm guessing that was also his "reasoning" for not going after the west sooner.
I would at least be demanding to know why they didn't tap the western market first looking at how successful hololive is and how far ahead Nijisanji was at the time. Instead they went into India.
I forgot how much of a streaming monster Ame used to be.

>> No.13476507

I mean, personally I'd prefer to go with # of streams as a comparison due to circumstances not being quite the same (being completely new with no one sharing time slots vs being the 2nd gen meant to fill gaps)
*Mumei isn't able to do longer streams due to school
*Sana just straight up missing a month, partly at the urging of management to take as long as she needed and not come back until she was at 100%
*Kronii mix of assorted roommate reasons from what I've read between grieving and finishing VA obligations
Also the number of days not a really fair comparison looking at it no?

Going to India, on paper at least, was a good idea at the same level of going to China.
>Big public with little to none Vtubers so they can be the first to call dips as the big group
>Money flow could be good, even if they just have 0.001% of the population.
>Easy to create more income with merch because of how low the job rates are
>Close to Japan, so more easy to control
The thing is, if you just try without giving something to appeal the public, you will get ruined. Happened with India, will happen when China gets too greedy.

>take away potential recruits
Then they clearly didn't understand the vtubing industry or what vtubing fans want. Which is weird considering their prestige in the industry. Look at Pekora and Miko. Those two sit at the very top of the entire vtubing space but they aren't particularly good at anything, lol. They are just pleasant people who are entertaining to watch and listen too. Gura would fit this mold too but she does have her singing. Bad strategy by Nijisanji.

Having a clear goal and direction for what you want your vtubing agency to represent and be is much more important then getting all the hot free agent talent.

>> No.13476770

I mean Niji does have that too. And in some instances I'll even say that their friendships feel more "natural". The thing is that the yabs that the Holos went through made the bonds between the talents and even the fans stronger like that one anon said. How many times during the chink out did the Holos show solidarity with one another? Nijisanji feels like a group of highschool friends who mess around and enjoy each other's company for the most part. Holos feel like a final fantasy party that went through the hardest part of the story and are pretty much overflowing with the power of friendship plot armor.

>> No.13476788

>Then they clearly didn't understand the vtubing industry or what vtubing fans want.

Clearly. That's why they went for the "shotgun approach and see what sticks" recruiting strategy.

>> No.13476814

In theory you could debut endless waves of vtubers as long as they all grew steadily it’s fine. But that doesn’t seem to be happening. Bini EN is just sharing an audience not growing one. Myth took a bit of a hit when Council debuted but their overall views and hours watched have grown significantly.

>> No.13476820

Anon, women are excessively touchy-feely even in real life, so gaybait around them is socially acceptable (if not outright fetishized), so people will notice it less. For men, blatant shit like that will kill your male following (if they're not gay, and you may as well just be a woman if you wanna be gay), so you need to create a dedicated space for it and do hard pander there.

Also, 10x 2 hour streams vs 3 x 5 hour streams matters even if its less hours streamed. This isn't Twitch, where hours streamed is by far the most important metric for growth and getting eyes on you, this is YT, where the clips and VOD will do a lot of the heavy lifting after the fact.
