Chess isn't a hollowed "solve on the spot, make my own strategy" game, anon. For majority of competitors its simply a test of your game knowledge versus your intuition. An individual with no intuition and even mediocre game knowledge will school anyone without game knowledge but a brilliant IQ. Some very brilliant minds did indeed become grandmasters but that was a combination of immense discipline studying game theory that only ever applies to chess, razor-sharp autistic focus and intuition. Modern day chess engines are the best example of this where they do not act on their own calculations for the opening or the endgame but rather draw from an immense library of opening/endgame books to draw patterns and extrapolate based on algorithms.

What Anonymous means to say here is that chess is gay shit for fags.

So what game, traditional or video, would someone who was actually smart without any initial game knowledge win out against someone with game knowledge but was average otherwise

at an amateur level, chess is basically "solve on the spot, make my own strategy" because you have to do on your own after you learn the rule .
that's why i also think it would make great contents for vtubers since there are a great chance for blunders or comeback. and to also capitalize on the recent rise in popularity of chess.

Yes at high level it's a solved game and wins the one with more knowledge of obscure plays, but like >>1352487 said, for amateurs it's great content to watch.
