I use audiobooks or reviews when I can't use my headphones for other ASMR content, but when that narrative reading gets put in a sound-isolated environment like binaural ASMR, all the sharp noises from acting come to the fore. Also a poorly performed script would make my brain more active in trying to ignore the dialogue than it would otherwise.

It took me max 3 years for English I don't remember TL moding and that's without special effort outside of internet dwelling and cartoons (very easy to replicate when it comes to Japanese). I think it's about how comfortable you are with the words and sentence structure in that context rather than fluency in the entire language because I for one wasn't near-native back then. I (N99) can nihongo mode a few "Anon-chan wa kawaii desu." tier sentences simply because I know what those words mean in that order, so imo it's just about how used one is to the vocab, sentence structures and phrases used in that context. Not worth it for just ASMR but if there's interest and some time, it's a nice point to start off with.
