The answer is because idolshit is inherently more autistic and it appeals a lot to very lonely men. It is also distinctly more Japanese. Vshojo girls are just streamers with an anime avatar, and I think everyone but Nyanners can enjoy the benefits of at least surface-level anonymity. The appeal is more western and intersects with people that simply like anime, not necessarily idolshit.
Hololive appeals more to people that wish they were Japanese.
Of course, someone might read what I wrote and think I'm painting Holofags in a bad light, so I'll say, that yes of course, you can be just a regular dude and enjoy Hololive, or be really into idolshit and like Vshojo more. But the simple reality of it is that you're an outlier.
Also, Corona-chan has helped the Hololive girls a lot. I've lost track of how many posts I've read of people saying that started coming here to shit on "vtranny bronies" and now they browse here unironically.
