Depends on the game and situation. Backseatongs dumb in puzzle games or exploration scenarios because it robs the sense of discovery or the “aha moment” which os the entire point of those kind of games. It kind of depends, explaining something when a game should but doesn't should be fine, and an occasional hint isn't the end of the world. It gets worse when chat gets filled with people spamming what to do. It's terrible when you have dozens of people suggesting different actions. Then it's just worth turning off chat entirely when you have different people arguing that the only thing that matters is what they suggest, and get increasingly obnoxious in trying to get the streamer to do what they want.

Backdating is evidence of the vtuber's failure to be properly entertaining. If people want her to get on with it and she's dragging the pace down, that's entirely her fault. Streaming isn't a hobby, it's a job. If they'd rather play games for fun then they can do it on their own time off-stream.

This is why certain games (especially ones facilitating actual interaction with fans) are much better streamer games. Competitive games like apex, call of duty, fall guys smash and the chubas are forced to match serious competitors' pacing. There's no such impetus with single player games. That's partly why JRPGs are such a debuff. People usually want speedrunning or the 100% experience, and anything less than knowing what you're doing is a waste of people's time limited time on this earth.

I don't like backseating though because over time, the streamer can appear to prefer some chatters over others, and that leaves a sour taste for some people. Like "why did you give him a turn to tell you what to do instead of me?" Also, if many people are all giving different directions, then the streamer either decides from among them or chooses what they were going to do in the first place, and at that point, it makes sense to shut down backseating altogether.
TLDR there are several reasons to not like backseating, and almost no benefits.

This entire post hit the nail on the head. Maybe the problem with allowing SOME backseating is it inevitably snowballs into chat ONLY backseating and nothing else. So it's best to shut it down early before it gets out of hand, because chat can't keep themselves moderate. Moderately backseating should be fine but I've never seen it never done properly.

This is entirely dependent on the kind of game, and the timing+wording of the backseating. If it's a puzzle game and they've been struggling for 5-10 minutes on a puzzle, leave it. It's fun to watch people fail at things sometimes. If they've been at it for 30 and it reeeeally shouldn't take that long, they need to accept the backseating because then they're failing to entertain chat and probably getting sick of it themselves. If it's more open ended like minecraft, you just give them a tip they may not know and leave it. Both the streamer and the chat need to have fun, you just need to realize it's a balancing act and act on that.

What's the point of finishing a game while being backseated? It just becomes going through the motions. The meaning has been completely stripped from the symbolic act of 'finishing' . Even playing Soulslikes with quicksave mods is more meaningful.
It's the same issue with following guides to 'finish' redstone contraptions in Minecraft. Sure, something was made, but the streamer is made completely irrelevant - anyone else could have been put in their place and the exact same thing would have still been made. It wouldn't be so bad if they actually learnt how things actually worked from following the guide, but almost universally when they run out of guides, they run out of things to build.
If backseating is supposed to boost game experience so much, then Kiara must be one of the most entertaining and engaging single-player-game playing chuubas on the planet, because she freely lets chat backseat her through every single game, down to skill allocations, secret locations and grind periods.

People get obnoxious with it. It's not always bad. Even gura recently said that sometimes she relies on chat for help, but some people try to autistically micromanage how others play the game to be exactly how they would play it themselves. I tuned into Irys's POV of B4B, and there were a decent amount of people trying to tell her exactly which guns to use. It's her first time playing and like any normal person, she was just experimenting and seeing what she liked, but chat was filled with "IIIRRRRRYYYSSS USE ASSAULT RIFLE! USE AK! USE MACHINE GUN!"
