Where should I start?

Learn Kana, read Tae Kim, watch Cure Dolly if you need further explanation, her approach is different and will click better with some people.
Get a basic vocab anki deck, Improved 2.3k VN Order is good for the easiest to get free deck. Tango N5 is also great. The Refold JP1K from what I've seen of it is also good but its behind a paywall right now.
After you finish your basic vocab deck start mining sentences from your immersion.
While doing all of this consume Japanese shit, no English subs, learn to enjoy with low comprehension.

>> No.1195196

This, the shittiness of her model mixed in with the quality of her teachings make it actually enjoyable. Hell the voice changer fucking up some times and her man-voice poking through is part of the appeal for me.

>Cure Dolly "you're in a cult" rating: 2
Is this because if you're watching her Jap videos you're not in the actual cult she leads?

>> No.1195845

>>1195643
the clickbait titles are funny but if you watched the videos you'd have seen that what she's saying actually makes sense.

>> No.1196062

>>1195643
I totally get this. She looks like an escaped secondlife avatar and sounds like GLADOS had one more stroke, and the vid titles are way over the top.
But as >>1195845 says, if you actually watch the stuff you'll find it's unironically great content. I've done a throwaway japanese course for a year, and the retardation in the normal teaching system that she keeps going on about *is* real. I only found the vids through another thread 3 days ago and was expecting it to be full-on schizo from the titles and presentation, but it really is good stuff.

Any timestamps?

If you fiddle with pitch on an audio software you can ballpark his original voice, give it -4.5 semitones and you'll hear an old man's voice.
Deepest lore.

>> No.1196740

>>1196486
You can do that with literally any voice.

It's an old woman, not a guy.

>> No.1196774

Yeah if you only watch the japanese videos I'd say the rating is 2, maybe 3 at most, but if you get start investigating her spanking cult...

>> No.1197346

how do i know when something should be a direct object or a subject
i come from latin where the verb 99% of the time has the subject doing a verb and the direct object being the thing we're giving, fighting, taking, loving, etc.

>> No.1197944

>>1197532
Not the same guy but could you give any examples to what's the confusion, or the source of it if you heard it from somewhere else?

>> No.1198206

>>1197532
A subject acts. A direct object is what's acted upon.

>> No.1198380

>>1197532
It's the same in japanese. Note, however, that が marks the subject, and は does not. Also how exactly the verbs work is misrepresented in some common translations, which may confuse. Just watch Cure Dolly, really, it's all explained pretty well in there.

>> No.1199006

>>1191368
'She' is very good at explaining her lessons, but needs a voice modulator upgrade because holy shit.

>> No.1199560

>>1197532
It works the same way in japanese, subject is the one that does the action, direct verb that which recieves it, it depends in what you want to say and essentially the context. Context in Japanese is essential to learn it and understand it.
It's not the same thing to say "( X ) rode the bike", that "The bike rode".
In the first someone or something that you know from the context rode it. In the second the bike itself rode. In the first one the bike would be the direct object (wo) and in the second the subject (ga).

>> No.1204724

>>1197532
>how do i know when something should be a direct object or a subject
No one else mentioned the important criteria .of if the verb is transitive or intransitive. Intransitive verbs can not even take an object. Transitive verbs usually use を, but they can also still use が which has a different nuance.

>> No.1204932

>>1199560
This isn't the best example considering 乗る is intransitive. For "X rode the bike" you use the に particle after bike.
