As dumb as it sounds I still like Hololive. Even the talents I don’t watch are still on a respectable skill level in entertaining and I don’t see any of them as people who I wouldn’t mind sharing a drink with.

I think it’s perfectly valid and something to be cherished. I don’t understand the resentment some have for this and as long as it’s their choice I’ll still support them.

I used to follow prism exclusively but slowly got into the other agencies at they started but then just moved entirely to indies. I guess I like CL and PC the most now, but I don't really watch them much.

I prefer the indie experience but a lot of chuubas are simply going to do better as a corpo, and there's a lot of viewers that for whatever reason don't touch indies that they can then pick up. I don't like it but it's often just for the best.

I wouldn't like it, but I do want her to make it. A necessary evil.

I know very little about Niji or Holo, other than they seem to have a lot of control over events or what you can play or do.
I like the protection and exposure that comes with joining a company, but I would be worried about my community or the people I used to interact with and stream with before. I wonder if other streamers who end up joining companies feel that way?

And I agree about the uncertainty. I really like my oshi because of her style of content. Joining a corp might bleach away everything that I loved about her show.

I don't take much stock in corpos, nor do I watch them with any frequency. I'd have to say just by cultural osmosis I enjoy EN holos, though. Mori especially, or rather, mori-related posters. They seem to like to act both ruthless and kind to a fault, and I find that inspiring.

It's just a choice they make. It's not like being installed into a position like it is with nijis or holos; the vtuber is still an indie and still (pretty much) free to do what they like with who they like, just with a bit more backing and supposedly guaranteed support in some fashion.

Depends. There are a lot of smaller corps out there that don't really offer much. I would hate to see my oshi find herself in a corp that's not doing anything for her, but expects things from her or infringes on her freedom / ability to sustain herself through the hobby... Basically I want her to make a good deal if she does, otherwise she's probably better staying indie.

I feel like most people here would answer hololive or vshojo. I'd pick vshojo since the people at the head of that company are more in touch with the western market at the moment, and have been for years. They have a strong background in content creation and some internet marketing stuff, if memory serves. Plus, they're less restrictive in general, so she'd still be free to do most of what she wanted to do.

Music! A great many songs... When I am alone I tend to sing along, and it resets me emotionally, though in extreme cases with tears. Allow me to share one. It's not particularly emotional, but it holds great significance to me. This or I just pump myself up by listening to "Thank you, my twilight".

I've posted about a lot of this before and I haven't paid active attention to any of them for month so I don't know how relevant a lot of this will be and I ended up writing way more than I intended anyway so I hope my meandering is somehow useful.

Prism I was following from around their gen 2 debut. There wasn't really much competition so I guess that's part of it, none of Kawaii's talents really grabbed me and Tsunderia's I just watched occasionally. /pcg/ was comfy then and the broader community alright if cringe, but with gen 3 that community went downhill and I was already watching other chuubas so I effectively dropped them.
In streams you sort of had the same consistent clique of viewers showing up each time and with a lot of familiarity within that group and with the streamers, Aoi's still a good example of that. It was kind of nice to see but it also led to perpetuating of stale inside jokes and Aoi's streams now are kind of a timeloop of what they were months ago, similar chat and content and the same viewcount despite the agency inclining. I think that viewer circlejerk being really cringe and attention-whorey is probably a big part of why there was such obscene whaling though. Community aside, one of the nice things about prism was seeing the interactions within the agency, lots of support and dropping into streams, particular between Aoi and Iku, though I guess on the whole other agencies aren't too different there, maybe different tonally.

PC felt pretty fresh when they started and even outside streams were and still are fun to follow, there's lots of banter between talents. Very good variety in talents, Pippa's novelty has worn off for me but she's still very distinct in the corporate space, I feel that most other talents more or less fit a certain template even if they all have very different personalities. At the same time I don't know if that variety in talents is actually a buff, they seemed to have fairly segmented viewerbases compared to what I was used to with Prism. Community is pretty cringe on the whole but I think their general here is the most fun of the small corpos, most of the generals are now pretty lacking in serious discussion anyway.
In the end I like PC and all the talents, just not enough to keep me coming back. As an aside it's amusing to see the CEO shitposting on discord and playing games with viewers, it's a strange form of transparency but it works. I think mins being on board there is good too, they have a much more consistent aesthetic to their models etc. than other agencies.

CL I never really caught too much of, I was already starting to watch indies way more and none of the talents immediately clicked so I didn't watch much past debut, I should probably have another look at them and see what they're like now. In terms of the agency they seem to have talent freedom and willingness to experiment going for them, which I guess goes for PC to some degree as well. I'm afraid I can't really offer any real insight here though.

VShojo seems very good, honestly. If I were bigger or more put together, that would likely be my choice. But I am still too baby of a streamer to even think of joining a corporation.

Anons, i've got YouTube-related questions to ask! Not sure where exactly to post them, but I threw them in /asp/ too.

A) Do tags _work_? I put them in my videos, the basic anime/vtuber ones. Are there more tags I should be aware of? I stream in two languages, so I also put the languages there too.

B) Am I doing the right thing by planning to not only upload Twitch VODs on YouTube, but also short clips and small, silly videos? I will also switch to some YouTube-only streams later to mix the platforms up. I am a "literal who" with 7avg, so don't think creating two separate channels for clips and VODs would be smart. I only saw big chuubas doing that.

Aside from the obligatory holos, I'm quite fond of 774. Honeystrap and Sugar Lyric in particular. I'm EOP so unfortunately I'm not able to fully appreciate them as I could EN vtubers, but I enjoy them all the same.

Overall it's a great thing unless the group they join is shady, but it's a sign of growth. The one thing that is very uncomfortable about this process is graduation of the old identity and reincarnation into someone new, but the person stays the same so it's just something to get used to. Still wish it was less common.

It'd be wonderful. Tricky, but wonderful. They deserve everything and more, and if I knew how it would be possible to keep supporting them to accomplish this I'd do whatever I could do help them get there.

I actually don't know that many EN corpos. The go-to answer that at the moment leads to instant success are still hololive and nijisanji. Phase Connect and Cyberlive seem to be picking up the pace though, so that's nice too. I haven't heard much of Tsunderia lately. Of all those I don't know what would best suit them, so it's still difficult to answer.

I don't actually listen to music much anymore. I don't even really feel lonely as such. Typically it's the desire to seek out company, right? I'm generally content on my own. When I feel restless I usually just keep myself busy otherwise, maybe have a stream open or listen to ASMR.

Tags work but the average user doesn't really look at tags. They're for SEO. If you're invested into youtube I'd recommend looking into what that is and what it means and how to work with it (and who can help you work with it) if you're not familiar already.

YES. Vod-only channels are for archival purposes only, pretty much. Clips and original content are what belong there with your name on it. Vods should go on a sub-channel, some will say, and I'd agree for organizing purposes if not for the fact that I am under the impression that twitch can only easily auto-export to one channel and youtube doesn't have an easy multi-logging feature like twitter does... I could be wrong there, though.

I had forgotten that Maroony was in a corp! I do remember, though. She has a good deal with them, and is also their most successful chuuba, I think. That's an example of a really good corp. They don't put many (?) limits on her, and seem to only benefit her.
For joining a corp, I would tell you to shoot for the stars, since you're a wonderful alien, but your own judgement is best. Sorry for tearing you up a little.

I've only ever watched HoloLive, but I've also heard good things about Niji as well.

It's fine, if the content they produce already fits in with the corporations modus operandi, then there's nothing wrong with that. Biggest issue is how they get there, what they do about their previous incarnation and their friends/fans.

774 happen to have great ASMRtists themselves. Patra is well known for it, but personally Mary is my all time favorite. The former focuses more on sounds and getting that ASMR response, the latter more on comforting, healing roleplay. Rene from Sugar Lyric is also great just because she has such a unique and amazing voice for it. Mary has another ASMR stream scheduled for later today!

There's also the classic non-vtuber ones like Gentle Whispering, ASMR Glow, Valeriya, KittyKlaw. I often come back to those because for me the visual part of their videos like camera brushing, face tracing and the like knock me the fuck out more than the audio parts do. It's often more of a comfort thing.

I mean, looking at Halo, the epitome of GFE, she's got around 250k bits from her top 10 gifters, and 2400 subs from top 10; which all comes to around 8500USD (without tax). That's four months of my day-jobs wages.

There will also come a break-point.

I tried, last month, streaming every day for a week. Only two or three hours, but for seven days.

I was exhausted. I'd work an 8 hour shift, get home, hit the gym for an hour, shovel food down my gullet, stream for 4 hours, then collapse into bed.

And I was exhausted by the Thursday. I have no memories of the Friday at all, I was a shambling wreck.

But I wouldn't be able to push for more streamtime without either quitting, or going part-time. At which point, I've left the traditional workforce, and finding another job is going to be hell (unless I take it as a sabbatical, which might be allowed if they don't pay me and don't count it as time towards a promotion). That leap of faith, that I can quit my day job, and then make the push in the next 2/3 months until my savings run out to go full time? If I fuck up there, I'm set back YEARS. My mortgage goes unpaid. My car gets repossessed. I'd have to take a minimum wage job at maccies to make ends meet whilst trying to get back into white-collar finance.

1- I don't have a favorite corpo, I watch whoever is entertaining. There are some streamers I like from corpo x and corpo y, as a viewer we don't have a feel which corpo is better than the other. Just what content streamers provide. Or thats how I see it, at least.

2- It sucks that they have to "graduate" and get a new model and all that, it'd take a while to know that indie is this new streamer from this one corpo. But if they're happy, sure.

3a- If thats what they want, I can't have a say as a viewer. But I will miss the scuff they had while being an indie.

Yes and yes. Vtubing is a fad in a basic sense, but the concept of online entertainers is a constantly evolving niche and vtubing is a legitimate step in that evolution. IDK where it will go but people who are vtubers now will probably have a good base for whatever the future step will be the way vrchat streamers and YT anime meme channels took to vtubing naturally. In saying that it is absolutely stupid to get into any kind of "online content creation" job to pay the bills. The idea is to do it in your off time as a passion, until it generates enough income to where it can replace your day job.

I've become pretty disillusioned with Holo and Niji in terms of how they're managed at this point, but I think the smaller ones can benefit chuubas in similar ways without being overly restrictive or having some of the other issues that the big two have. Some can definitely thrive in those companies, though.

I don't have an oshi, but I think some of my favourite chuubas would benefit from it while some wouldn't. I think the ones focused on things like music production would stand to benefit the most from joining an agency.

I think it's important for background music to be soft and not intrusive. During gameplay I'd say don't have any at all, or go in the opposite direction and do the cytube thing I've seen Bag do a few times. I think vocals can be intrusive for background music, unless it's just like humming or something.
Talking during cutscenes really depends on the game, the stream, and the streamer. I don't really care either way personally but unless you're personally invested in the story enough that you don't want to talk over it I think it's probably fine to just keep talking. Make sure you have subtitles on though.
an indication of the game, model, and a link are vital. saying your goal for the stream is nice too. a quick recap can just be done on-stream if you think it's necessary.

1) If the thing that the streamer is doing already has music (games, movies, prebaked media of any kind honestly), don't BGM. However, for everything else, chuubas should probably have some kind of BGMs for loading, zatsu, and non-sound stuff. Those are best left for the chuuba to decide the intensity, since it's their stream and they get to pick the flavor of energy.

2b) Generally, I am indifferent about vocals in songs. For chuuba-selected BGM, I dislike, but for thematic purposes, vocals can switch from a dislike to a very like if used sparing and timed appropriately - imagine the effect of setting up a RULES OF NATURE clip semi-naturally.

3) Cutscenes, during voiced parts, no. Too many voice tracks is painful to track for non-ADHD-multitrackers, but that might just be my own flavor of autism instead. Between voiced parts, like fancy-visuals glorified-loading-screens, yeah that's fine, unless there's a particularly poignant emotional weight that the scene is attempting to perform. No point rattling about how the cashier didn't give you back your change during a slow panning MY DOG JUST DIED LET'S GOOOOOOOO happens.

4) Announcements/lives are handy. Generally, I-IV are all very appreciated. V is less needed, unless it's a heavily episodic entry point that prior context is useful for.

My tenuous grasp on sanity is being strained harder and harder every time I'm confronted with the fact that it's easier to get into administrative utilities for work at HOME than it is FOR WORK because of the comedy of errors that is our security. The only reason I haven't lost it and learned that I can kill is that I only have to do this song and dance once or twice a year.
