It's a strange conundrum really since I think Nijisanjis theoretical final Yab I think would need to be bigger than Covers. Hololives main strength is their talents and how unified the community is, hence why HoloID and HoloEn are regarded just as much as their JP senpais by the fandom. So if a talent like, let's say fubuki, were to suddenly renege their support from Cover, Hololive would fall like a house of cards. On the other hand, Nijisanjis main strength is the brand itself surprisingly enough, and also it's segregation of their talents fanbases. If Mito were to suddenly renege her support from Anykara, although it would be a big hit on their reputation, it would not be the death knell that it would've been 2-3 years ago. Kuzuhas or Lizes fans wouldn't care as much so long as their Chuuba weren't involved. So I guess the final Yab would have to be something bigger than what could theoretically end Cover itself. Maybe a full on revolt by half the talent? Or a legal scandal that would cast the brand itself in a very bad light (talents being sexually harassed, etc)

Nah, their Chinese branch is basically setup so they can easily cut them off to be their own group (they don't even have Nijisanji in the name).
And the whole Taiwan thing was a whole collection of factors:
Hololive being extremely popular in China, their bilibili accounts being fan controlled so they felt Cover owed them, them already hating Coco for being American and "corrupting" the company, growing fears over the EN market replacing them, etc.

It's mainly because the Chinks are indifferent to Nijisanji. When Hololive got pushed out of China, instead of boosting Cover's main competitor (Nijisanji), they instead pumped and dumped some indie as a show of what Cover was missing out on. Even now, interest in Nijisanji didn't really increase and instead they went ahead and decided to get behind a local company. A-Soul (Chinese vtuber company) is currently the biggest vtuber agency there and has become their replacement for Hololive. Despite this, there are some chinks who still continue to watch Holos (especially Aqua) through different means. Really, it reminds me of your typical NTR story.
